I intend to do as much as I can myself. First order of business: Let's have a diagnostic party. See if we can pinpoint EML (henceforth to be known as 'MILf light') and headlamp level fault lamp.

Then have a good old service and rummage. Drain auto box and refill with fresh Aisin-Warner juice.

Invest in some new or used tyres. Check brakes, flush fluid, new pads where necessary. 

Check suspension, rust points, clean up any grot and treat it with paint and/or waxy goo.

Fix stereo, diagnostic suggests car and head unit need to 'get married'. That'll be fun, I might wear a suit.

Fix rear window washer.

Use and check HVAC system and top up gas, fix sticky flaps/actuators/rods/whatever and get it working.

Fix cupholder.

It was cabin temp. Stuck on max so OK in winter but not convenient in summer. The crank sensor was done about a year ago but must have been for iffy starting as I didn't fail to proceed.

I have had the car three years now, bought from another AS member, servicing costs seem to be about a thousand a year (excluding fuel) because I am a lazy sod and we have an excellent Saab specialist nearby. That includes MOTs, front subframe mounts, an exhaust and an alloy wheel repair. It is still on the tyres it came with in winter. Its one ftp was the steering pump plus everything else belt breaking.

May well be teaching to suck ovulation but.... It's very easy to do this via the cooler line so all the fluid is changed in one go, this became to officially Saab method. 

If not already then the Uksaab website is a wealth of knowledge and generally helpful bunch. 

+1 on a Noobtune.

These also run significantly better on 99ron fuel. I tell myself that the small increase in economy evens things out ppm (it doesn't).

Yeah they're Xenons on the outer lamp unit.

I've got a double din to single din adapter with a Kenwood W808 Mask somewhere for this if I can find it if your head unit is broken.

Was from my 2001 car which was pre facelift so not sure if they're the same though.

+1 on a Noobtune, if just to have a chat with Karl, he's a nice bloke.

That's both very kind and annoying, because I've just bought the facia plate online. Although I could always send back? From what I know 98-05 were the same radio bits. 

I did drop Karl a mail so we'll see what happens. 

I like Xenons. Headlamps for the discerning gentleman.

Definitely worth a trip for a noob, really wakes them up, especially with a 3 inch downpipe.

Does it have the as2 or 3 stereo, I think I had to buy a harness for the amp to retain it, but I can't remember now, it was a long time ago!

Make sure you change all the vac hoses if they haven't been done, they go all funny and fall apart due to the heat after a while.

I saw this method in the Saab HBoL but thought it looked messy without the right equipment. However I will persevere, as theoretically it's easy* to just have the tranny squirt out old fluid and suck in new stuff.

It is very simple and tidy. If you want I can post you a homemade tube to assist along with a couple of new washers (won't be able to send until Friday as away at the moment).

The fluid only comes out at a moderate rate however it does help to have a suitable measuring jug to assist putting the correct volume back in!

I have a plastic measuring jug, do you need to measure the amount of fluid that comes out?

Iirc.......

Drain via sump (4l approx), refit sump plug and refill this amount via dipstick.

Undo the cooler line (lower one I think.... Double check!) and fit homemade fluid directing gizmo...

Have a glamorous assistant start the engine and have 2l of fluid come out (this is what the jug is for so make sure it's got some spare capacity). Once 2l is out stop the engine. 

Replace 2l fluid via dipstick.

Repeat until the fluid coming out is cherry red.

Bear in mind that the WIS instructions are slightly off. I forget exactly how but if you follow them to the letter you would end up a litre down on trans fluid.

I bought a big Tupperware box from home bargains which was only a couple of quid and marked this up with litres, this made it possible to put the right quantity of fluid back in.

best way to check for Xenons on a 9-5 is stand and watch when someone switches them on, you will hear the leveling motor buzz and the beams move from pointing down to pointing somewhere near forward
When I put the lights on in the yeti, and every other car I had with xenons, you see fron the drivers seat the lights going through their up, down, right, left dance. The beam cuff off is very sharp. The inner lights will be halogen spotlights that come on with full beam. Everyone who is a passenger in the yeti remarks on how good the lights are. The leon previous to it was the same. Be prepared for big money exchanging hands if one goes out though. To fix the blown on my Leon would have cost near 2 grand fron Seat, for a new light and new ballast unit. Moisture had got in and corroded the terminals of the light which blew the ballast unit. I eventually got a light complete with ballast for £250 off of a breaker.

Well bought Sir. Just had mine serviced (full fat) at a cost of considerably more than the purchase price. But as it looks like a keeper I am gradually getting all the little niggles sorted. This time it was temperature control. I was surprised to see three fuel filters on the invoice, is this a thing or something I need to inquire about?

I believe you may want to have a word with the garage about the three fuel filters. HBoL says only one, which I would expect, and I've never seen anything with more than one (unless you count the gauze sock near the pump intake)

I did this. It said, "0". Either it's not talking to me or that's zero faults. 

I do have a cabin filter to go on. Twice the size of anything I've fitted before. Good old Saab.

When you do the filter there's a sponge bit that goes above it, sometimes these have an adhesive strip to stick them on.

Don't stick it on. Put the foam thingy in first as it fits around some of the pipework, the filter can then just slide in.

When I first changed mine there was approximately 3/7ths of a small tree in the housing too!

I don't know for sure but I think it's Super Duper level stereo with sub in boot. When I was fiddling around with Tech 2, I had to choose between Standard and Premium/Upgrade or something like that. It responded to the latter so I'm guessing it's got that. 

The more I use the car the more I appreciate the spec. No sunroof so no leak issues. Banging stereo. Future-proof grey leather interior. Stealth silver exterior. Heated rear seats for the kids to play with. 

At a glance I would have guessed the handsome 17" wheels and 45-section tyres would have ruined the ride but it's surprisingly good. Probably because the dampers are shagged, but who's complaining?
