Thanks guys! For some reason the Dorset-Hampshire border areas has plenty to offer in terms of shite - I suspect it has more to do with the senisible elderly population not swayed by a new car.

When I was a kid I used to be amazed at seeing an original A-plate car, such was their rarity in the late 70s/early 80s, but I seem to see more now than I did back then?

I'm not sure why but Suffix A reg cars have always looked odd to me - almost like they're misplaced on the car. I know many pre 1963 cars would have had their original plates sold on later in life and replaced with A reg ones.

As said, an excellent haul indeed! A30 is actually an A35 - bigger back window, no trafficators :wink: I'm not totally surprised to see winter tyre swappage on those Triumphs. Looks rather like they use them all year round and as I've just discovered on our Herald, changing rubber can be a good thing.Herald coupe is indeed pretty rare. They were available right from the start but that will be a later 1200. I think'63 was the last year they offered them?

There is a 1993 L plated CF Camper Van rolling around with a 3.3 Holden and a 4 speed autobox in it...............I know this as I have done a little bit of work on it in around 1997/98 ish in Nottingham. It was a cancelled ambulance chassis cab, which stood around a bit. It was supplied to a fireplace firm as a demonstrator, then became a camper in about 1996.

Perhaps it doesn't look "right" because on re-registrations the first letter on the plate is often high up the alphabet, as on this London bus

But in contrast this coach has its original 1963 reg and must have been one of the very first A-suffix vehicles on the road, nice single-digit combination too.

A-suffix should cover the period 1/1/63 - 31/12/63 but for a time it seems that vehicles older than that were given A-suffices when their original marks were transferred off, quick google search reveals the double decker was new 1961 but the coach is bona fide 63 vintage according to DVLA.

We travelled around in Ratdats magnificent Renner 16. The car is 40 years old, but the refinement of the engine, excellent heaters and ability to keep up with the best of the lincs traffic really betrays its age. I'm hooked.

Later Ratdat mentioned a place full of decaying Citroens. We investigated and asked permission to snoop around. This was at a Citroen repair and service garage. There were at least 10 BX's, none of which were the early small indicator versions, but these 3 made up for it.

True enough, but I guess the true extent of the rot can't be seen in the picture. It looked like it had been dragged out of the thames, and had tyres off the barge that dragged it out. I reckon a decent late clubman estate would be available for not a great deal more.

Hey DC, epic spots as per usual.

 

Those Amazons are a bit weird.

 

The red one, whilst being a pre 63, has the correct grilles but the wrong indicators and later wheels, same as mine. Wonder if it had a B18 as opposed to the the original B16 it would have had?

 

The other with the half arsed rally motif has a Aug '66 - on grille front on it. It's not just a straight over swap - the grille shells and pressings are a different shape. It also has the wrong indicators but the right wheels for the period. Other things - like bonnets, doors and boots - swap over, but getting the trim details are difficult because the earlier garnishes aren't made any more.

 

I reckon someone converted it from a stuffed 121 because the earlier cars are very difficult to get body panels and engine bits for.

 

DC, any chance of some hi res snaps of those two folorn GSs?

 

Probably my favourite FWD car of the 70's.

 

Ideal would be an early GS Club 1015 in orange, like this one spotted at the NEC Classic:

First Class D.C. made me feel quite homesick with all those Bournemouth regd oldies ( JT. FX, LJ, RU etc) parked in obcure areas of Boscombe and suchlike !!My 900e hopefully is surviving all the snowy grot, but look out for it when the sun is above the horizon for what is known as "summer" over there.It's posts like yours that make A/sh such a superb site. MOST enjoyable.

GS's have such a wonderful shape. I've seen that orange Break on the road somewhere - it was a Costco carpark but I can't remember if it was Bristol or Leeds. Bristol I think. It looked as fantastic as it does on the NEC stand.Quality spots once again DC.

The GS is certainly one of those cars that makes most of our top 10 lists, strangely the GSA despite its similarity has almost no effect on me - like the original Fiat 127 compared to the later versions.

 

Yesterday I braved the cold for several hours at Goodwood but was rewarded with some reasonable shots. Not quite shite, but I'd like to share them with you - apologies for those who have seen them already on Retro rides.

He managed to brake quick enough not to cause damage on his car. Still, it gave the marshalls a bit of excitement.

 

Michiel, no idea what that scaffolding thing is, I thought initially that it might be something to do with a camera mount, but I'm sure it has a purpose.

There were 3 E-types, one mk2 jag and a Austin Healey 3000 loaded up on this German registered transporter. The guy was securing the cars properly for their epic journey back to Germany. Odd that he chose RHD cars, especially as the E-types on the transporter had worryingly high amounts of filler. This Coventry registered E-type was by far the best conditioned example he had. He managed to flood the engine, and yours truly managed to get that lush engine started. I have to say I can fully understand the appeal of these cars, but I'm not sure if I can live with that constant tuning and fettling.

I saw this a couple of weeks after this shot, involved in a minor car accident. Nothing other than a slight ding and little broken glass. The elderly owners seem ok but I wonder what the insurance company will do?

I have a soft spot for 2CV's, I owned one for a few months and was impressed with its off road abilities. This was bought via ebay by the current owner - he's a car buff. His previous ride was a Citroen SM.

And this has to be the choice pick. Very much in use and most appropriate for this forum. Not a looker especially compared to the first generation of 128 models but has to be a genuine rarity.
