Travelling with a camera: my photo scans from the early 90's

Ok, yet another recent spots thread. I'm mildly miffed how modern and fairly unremarkable this selection is but I know some of you guys find beauty in most things....

This lot are mostly in Oxford.

Pre facelift 21 in sedan form are quite rare these days. Always thought they were quite neatly designed cars, and of course from the pen that did the Tagora.

All of the cars above have credentials for a long life, hardly surprising that they're still being used regularly.

I rarely photograph Beetles, as they survive in good numbers, but both these cars are remarkable in the fact both were registered in Oxfordshire and have remained in the locality. The silver car incidently is one of a number of limited edition run out models. I think they might have gone up to T reg.

A lot of the streets in this end of Oxford are narrow and have far too many cars. I bet this guy is well popular.....

Posted Image

There is a yard just behind where this was parked full of old British RWD stuff, which might suggests a banger racer. I didn't get a chance to explore as the only entrance is actually through the garage. I might pop in one day and have a chat with the owner if he seems receptive.

Posted Image

Probabily the find of the 'session'. It was in front of suitably manky neglected house. I bet a real treasure trove of shite and tat inside....

Posted Image

Fair play to Ford for making both 3 and 5 door versions of their Escort. Can't think of many European manufacturers that do that.

Posted Image

Posted Image

J-vans will always be a source of fascination to me. Space Cruisers have lots of potential. The Urvan too will be one that will just disappear totally off our roads, much like their predessesors.

Posted Image

And then saw this coming out of some visitor attraction thing in town. Nice to see its a genuine UK car. The two old guys driving it seems very pleased withselves. I can't say I blame them.

A few snaps form a Nissan Scrapyard I visited a couple of weeks ago, again nothing really special, but among the 'attractions' were 2 R33 skylines, 3 QX's - (all Oxfordshire registered!) and these...

The guy gets most of his stock from auctions, and they're mostly 5 to 10 years old. He didn't know what a Datsun was, but was pretty friendly. Its in Wales somewhere.

That is all. Cheers!

Fine work as ever DC. Think I'd look quite pleased if I was driving around one of those Quattroportes, what a machine. Can I be the first to suggest Astra/Kadett as offering two- and four-door estates? Even here in UK you could still get this with Mk2 Astra, did Europe get Mk3 as a 3dr estate? Even with the latest Astra, it's pleasing to see they still do a 'proper' panel van ie. an estate with blanked out windows.Struggling beyond that...I recall 3dr Escort estate came first, probably because that was what the Mk1/2 was like.

My thoughts on the first R21 were that sliding the Renault badge to one side gave it the look of a beauty spot, a la Amy Winehouse / Cindy Crawford!

Was there a difference in spec / trim level with the Volvo getting either round head lamps or square head lamps or was it just the lamps that varied?

Why is it some of these VW T3's have another black grille in the lower section of the front panel between the indicators, but plenty don't? It looks much better with one!

The ones with the square headlamps are facelift models from late 1980 to late 1982.

Never been to Bognor -I'm too young!Sorry -tell me more? its pretty standard- but most havent a clue cos its a rare-ish car. Do they know Renaults -or just good mechanics?

Well every car I've owned has been looked after there. I wouldn't want to be responsible for giving you bad advice but they're very reasonable & always check with you before carrying out anything extensive / costly. They always try & obtain the best prices on parts etc....Only downside is they're often very busy, they're not the sort of place you can just turn up with your car.I'll PM you the number if you like and you can check whether they're the right place for your car?

More recent spots from near and around parents village near Oxford and erm...Newcastle.

J-car selection first.

I recall this being here since I was a child, looks like it hasn't moved in years.

Its the twin headlamp version - not sure how I am going to illustrate that as though.

Posted Image

Outside my infant school. Imagine the owners reaction when viewing this to buy...'hmmm..I like that saloon', dealer replies 'its a hatchback sir'. 'well! bugger me'. etc.

Posted Image

Must be the Didcot equvalent to our very own Hirst! There was only the blue one parked here last time I checked.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Fairly sure this is a Datsun.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I think this might be either a pub land lord car, or a one off payment for someones bar tab.

Posted Image

Very clean example.

Another one thats been here since I can remember - not surprising really as this dates from 1952.

This and Minor are part of a fenced off collection.

Posted Image

Included are what you see here, just make out the Marina and P6 Rovers. in the corner is a BX and MK1 80's Golf. There used to be much more here, including some 60's/70's sweeney todd type stock cars.

Posted Image

BX collection - used to be GS's and then Saab's before then.

The local mechanic who my folks use always has interesting stuff near his lock up. Two triumphs. In addition to all these spots, I saw an Allegro, several beetles, a recentish Lada 4x4, a few more c/d/e reg VW's and a garden full of Panhards - which I have posted before I think.

Went up to Newcastle yesterday for a job interview. Spotted these on my way out...

Posted Image

Any ideas? It has to be a kit, as the plate suggests that.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Excuse the quality control, I was fighting with the Volvo 440's vague steering as I took this.

Posted Image

Shame I missed out on photographing the owners, 3 burly builders with an obvious sense of humour.

Posted Image

Loved this. All ready for a safari.

why can't I see these pics? They are all red crosses. I can see everyone elses' - I STILL haven't seen that Quattroporte yet and it is killing me. Do I have a cookie locked out and pawing the door, or something like that?

Wierd. I've hosted them all on flickr as opposed to my webspace, so I assume where ever you're viewing them must be blocking flickr.com images. Maybe try looking into your browser security levels or maybe its a IE issue.I'll start putting them back on my internets space, if thats the case.

Is that out Didcot way? If so, that matt black Mk2 Consul is on eBay at the moment. I recognise the odd whitewall tyre on the front...I had one of those Hiace campers - mine was a bit older than that though, it was on an M plate. Oddly enough I bought that from near Oxford (Bicester). R plate must have been one of the last of the quad headlamp Hiaces - I think the next version came out on an S plate, didn't it?

I have been to the Flickr site and this entire site is available to me, but none of the pictures appear despite adjusting my security levels. I cannot imagine that the Chinese fun-police have cencored this, so will have to try it when I next get to HongKong to check. No-one else has mentioned this so I guess it is just me - not a good enough reason to change your routine!!

The Applause looks pretty sorry for itself! They look best in cheesy two-tone I reckon.Charade owner must be a bit of a hero, managing to retain the original wacky hubcaps and all! Shame they appear to be the dull CX spec instead of anything wacky like a turbo, though that makes the owner more hardcore for bothering to own them.

I'm confused, I swear there must be more than one type of Hiace! What I thought was the MkI is what I most often see these days as a day van / basic camper but used to also be used for panel vans & luton vans and I'm sure I've seen them as old as P plate.....but it's a different sort to that motorhome one.

I think what Wuvvum states is right regarding the hiace vans. The M reg one must have been one of the first ones. I know Will Datman had one for a few months, and there was also a free one in surrey about a year ago.

This is a P reg of the earlier type, like the blue one.

and a completely dead one in a scrappy

The two below are the later type ones. They might have gone up as late as B reg.

Personally I'd love a hiace, but I think a cabstar or E20 would be perfect.
