Spottedlaurel
Voila: It appears they might not be the greatest banger ever… “As you may be aware V8 Stock Car driver Terry Coke was injured racing at the Charity Banger Allstars meeting at Foxhall Stadium Sunday. Terry was accidentally hit in the drivers door of the MGB car he was driving and sustained a shattered pelvis and 2 broken ribs. He is currently in traction at the Ipswich Hospital and at present is waiting on an operation to repair the damage which may be a 7 or 8 day wait. He may also be transferred to a Hospital closer to his home to have the operation. Everyone at Spedeworth wishes Terry a swift recovery and we shall update you on any news as we receive it.†
reallyloud
Seems to be a rash of interesting spots recently. I'll counterbalance that with some mildly spectacular ones from the UK. I recently spent a few days in Nuremberg, Germany for a Toy fair - which was quite good, and managed to get a few spots in between the quality beer, sausages and work stuff. Spent a fair amount of time licking the window at this dealership. This was on another car dealership, stock included a couple of late 80's Sierras, Omegas and mk2 golfs. I'd have taken this home I think. Quite a few of these horrors about. I think these made it to the UK as VW's but more commonly known as the Toyota Hilux. I missed out on a couple of mk1 golfs, a mint lancia prisma, various wedge transporters with odd conversions and a BMW 2002, due to a couple of rare evenings without a camera. At the actual show, some of the toy car/radio control/collectables etc manufacturers had some neat cars on their stands. I was really hoping to find an early passat or some sort of 2 door sedan in the streets, but I suspected I would have got into trouble if I spent all my time photographing germanic tat. A few more less notable cars are here, at the bottom 1/3 of the page and onto the next one: http://www.reallyloud.co.uk/cars/cars62.htm

reallyloud
Another batch of cars seen over the last month. I think the scrapping process is happening quicker than I can photograph them, hence the lack of real shite. Curiously though, I have seen proportionally higher number of British Leyland stuff and late 80's silver j-tin stuff recently. I might make a pie chart of my findings one day.... This is stored in a NCP car park, and hasn't been on the road since 1984. Great colour, not sure if its original but suits it well. DVLA says its a Rover. I'm not going to argue with that, despite it not having any Rover badging. I think the last Cowley production Maestro would have been on a 'M'/94 Plate. Not sure if this is a Bulgarian kit car or stored dealer car though Not seen a 'facelift' inney headlamp metro for years. I suppose technically this is BL Non BL cars. Another NCP storage car. Someone had signed the legend 'DADDY FANTASTIC' in the dust at the rear of the car. Which I thought was great. 2-litre jobbie too. Disappointed to see that this 304 isn't a sedan, wagon or even a coupe, but still a pretty little car. http://www.reallyloud.co.uk/cars/rolls_royce_shadow.jpg Either a banger racer, pub landlord or porn stars car. Classy irish plates too. http://www.reallyloud.co.uk/scrapyard/simca_1501.jpg A surprise to see to say the least. No evidence of its year, but it will end up on the oval in some sort of pre-70 type event. michiel
Too much good stuff to pick a favourite... great update!
Electric Leyland
Great haul! My fave is deffo the R16 (where did you spot it?), followed by Simca wreck. Also feel drawn towards that Silver Shadow stagecoach too...
keef
This is stored in a NCP car park, and hasn't been on the road since 1984.Very odd.Do you think someone is in for a longterm parking fine?
Electric Leyland
I've seen this in London before too. An NCP or hotel underground car park, you can still find classics that havent been claimed for decades, still sitting there. Remember seeing a couple of 60s Tatras covered in dust once when trying to find a parking space. The owners must have originally had some sort of agreement with the carpark owner which has yet to expire....
MrRegieRitmo
In that case I'm impressed that yobs have left them alone!
Electric Leyland
That's because they have some sort of basic security going on to get in/out. No chance of casual drunken vandalism or anything, the only people coming into contact are drivers desperate for a parking space.
MrRegieRitmo
Not even scrapes from careless parkers & door knockers!
reallyloud
R16 (where did you spot it?),I was hoping no one would ask! I think it was in a place called Seaton off the A19 in between Newcastle and Middlesbrough. I think. Those NCP cars do seem rather dent free, don't they? I can only assume that due to their exhorborant charges - I think its about £1.70 per 15 minutes in some areas, you can expect a better class of car park users as opposed to the usual pram pushing, company car owning, disabled spot parking, car credit yobs. The same car park had loads of exotic cars under dust sheets - but I thought better than to pry. A few more pics taken today as I wondered into Oxford, to have a chat to the owner of this: but also saw these.... but this one goes down as the best! reallyloud
A few more seen over the week.... Well chuffed to have seen this! Just up the road from the Suzuki. I had one for a while and it was nice old crate. A bit too trendy for me. Car of the year '82. A TL Biarritz version no less. I think the post office demand kept these in production far longer than Peugeot-Talbot would have liked them to have done. Or did Peugeot have nothing to do with the commercial arm of Rootes? Check out the P6 hubcaps Odd hybrid run out model - 900 rear end, with a 99 front end. A Morris badged Princess!!!! Don't generally photograph Scirocco mk2s as there are fair few still knocking around, but this was total and utter shite. I quite like the wire wheels on this, shouldn't work but do in my eyes. Mr_Bo11ox
HOLY SHITE, Morris 1800! Now thats what I call a find.
r.welfare
Once again DC, these are truly excellent.Commer Spacevan...you're right that the GPO kept them in production long after they should have been put to rest. One can only assume that they got a cracking deal on them. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the Commer side of things went to Renault...but I can't remember whether it just wasn't part of the PSA deal, or some kind of "Top Trumps" swap
reallyloud
Thinking about it the Renault-Dodge connection makes total sense. Seen a few trucks with some mixed ancestery going on. Is the commer van the same floorpan and basic design as the Peugeot J9? They look very alike to me.
STUNO
Top spots datsuncherry. the Consul 315 looks dreadful to me, and the Scirocco qualifies with flying colours
ajcherry
Any Princess is a rare find these days but a Morris badged example is a great find DC.All we need now is to find the Wolseley badged version. There was a Morris Princess on The Sweeney the other week but of course they were filmed over 30 years ago and that particular one only lasted 10 odd years. Milford Cubicle
What was the point of the 90? Was it just so they could spin several mild variants off basically the same car, lower range being the 90, mid-range the 900 and top of the range being the stretched 900CD?
Richard
I think the 90 was just there to use up all the leftover 99 bits. There was also a spate of 2 door 900s with single carbs and 4 speed boxes to use up bits just before the 900's facelift IIRC.
HillmanImp
There was a Morris Princess on The Sweeney the other week but of course they were filmed over 30 years ago and that particular one only lasted 10 odd years. Its not just me that watches ITV4 and looks the cars up on the DVLA website then. Glad to know there are people as sad as me out there.
Richard
I look up numbers too.I notice the Morris is listed on Autotrader as Transmission NOT AVAILABLEGears NOT AVAILABLE. I had a Princess 2200 once and it was like that too
Mash
for the Morris Wedge. Just parked in the street like that - does he know what he has??In fact, the Wolseley versions appear to have survivied in greater numbers than the Morris and Austin ones. I saw the black one in The Sweeney too, made my day.... Regarding the Saab 90, is it just me or does that silver one look like it actually IS a 99 and 900 grafted together?
MrRegieRitmo
AFAIK the Pug J9 is a fair bit bigger than the Commer/Dodge van. It was replaced by the J5 (also known as the Talbot Express, the MkI Fiat Ducato & the Citroen C25). Anyway that style of van was obviously bigger than a Dodge Spacevan & so too logically would be the J7 / J9. I'm happy to be proved wrong though.
