To be honest, while I always harp on about service history, on cars of that age and price point I would be more inclined to base my opinion of how well looked after it is based on the condition and level of the oil, and under the valve cover through the filler cap if visible. If it looks clean, that's good enough

Oil was immaculate when I changed it last May, as was the air and oil filters, but I'd started by this point, so I'd have to finish the job.

The car overall has been better than the other shitters my family has owned over the years, so it's still in the good books for now!

Based on what you describe I definitely agree it's like fuel starvation now rather than electrical, whether that's caused by something in the fuel system or a sensor which is throwing a parameter out somewhere - not too sure

It's weird and I wish something would jist hurry up and throw up a code so I can sleep better at night knowing I'll be able to pull away from roundabouts without it dying or something. 😂

Or it dies in spectacular fashion and gives you a good reason to get a Vectra B :)

Usually the punctured tyre will be the best one on the car and unrepairable, has this lottery fallen in your favour* today?

It was the one that came with the replacement alloy. Had a chunk out of it when I may have mildly came into contact with a kerb... :(

Surprisingly we had good weather this morning, so work commenced on fixing the Fabia's ever-increasing list of problems that make me want to drive it off the pier at Portpatrick.

First off, the lambda sensor. The resident tech (my Granda) and myself went under the motor to replace said second lambda sensor with an OEM VW one. The replacement was dated 2018 and was advertised as brand new (it arrived as such too) so that's now in. :)

Below is the old sensor too, in all its potentially factory glory.

I was sincerely hoping this would be the miracle solution to my MPGs, or lack thereof. I have gained an extra mile to the gallon or two, but it's still well below what other folk are getting with these 1.2s in Fabias. I'm seeing 38.2MPG indicated on the wee computer thing, it's usually quite accurate. Anyway, the next plan of attack is to either pull back readings from fucked sensors or cut my losses and sell it on here... if any of yous are gullible stupid brave willing enough to buy it. It runs fine now besides the abnormally high fuel consumption and the unknown clunks and creaks. Surprisingly no EML, despite that being a feature of most VAG cars. 😆

While I'm ranting... countless thanks to @RoverFolkUs for helping me try to sort this thing out as well, even if only able to do so over t'interweb.

Anyway, back on some form of topic, I also changed the oil and filter today, because that's been due since the start of the month if we're going to get anal about service intervals and shite. 2.5L ish came out, as pictured, sideways.

Just dinnae drink that bottle of cola, okay? 🤣

The car is also running on the one steel spare still. Handling isn't as good as what it was with four alloys (going from 195/50/R15 to 185/60R14) but it does feel mildly more comfortable when crashing over speedbumps. I'm half tempted to go back to steels and eBay wheel trims and just shift the 15" alloys on. Decisions, decisions... here it is, as of last night. It looks poorly, it's driving poorly, but it's fine. Nae fun in a reliable car, innit?

Careful the different wheel sizes don't catch you out as you'll get a Speedo difference!

Since the width is less and aspect ratio is more, it pretty much cancels any difference out.

Nevermind! But something to beware of because if only one dimension was different then it wouldn't cancel out and that would cause it to over read or under read

Three pounds and nineteen pence for 6 cans of gutrot!? (Diet pepsi) - used to get a pack of 24 for £5 (yes I'm a tightwad!) 😂

Was down to two quid odds thankfully. 😂

£5 for a tiny pork pie in a snack van brought me to my breaking point the other day 😂

Does that include the pig the pork came from?! 🥲

These monitors better be worth it with all this price extortion 🤨

Six quid for a poxy meal deal!? I'd just starve myself out of principle 😂

Debated it. Got a bacon cheeseburger meal from the McDonalds in Stirling just there for a quid more!

Some stats for the nerds...

Time driven -

Average speed -

Miles driven -

Average MPG -

The kicker out of all of this is refuelling at £1.899 p/l at the services at Stirling. Good news is that my MPG seems to have improved overall though, got to 230 miles travelled on the way back down before hitting half way on the fuel gauge, so mibbie about 46mpg. :)

230 miles per 1/2 tank is better than the 160 you were getting!

Any incidence of the cutting out and other issues you were having?

No cutting out. I'll touch wood and say it's gone. Did go a little gutless at one point and I had to pull in an restart but it wasn't like the limp home mode. 😂

Still got a hell of a wheel wobble at anything above 65mph. I think I can rule out the dodgy wheel being an issue. :(

Well that's an improvement then!

Could be tyre balance, is the wobble felt through the steering or the cabin/seats? Or both?

The whole car begins to shoogle but the steering is really bad. Think the other wheel may need balanced.
