eifion
A few weeks back I asked about early Citroen C4s. You said: Quote "Built and designed back in a time when PSA really dropped their french bollocks in terms of design and quality control" "They are pretty shit all round to be honest" "...era where they just churned out any old half arsed shite. " "I’ve heard no good news whatsoever about those early C4. " So obviously I've gone out and bought one: It's a 2.0 diesel and, well, so far so good. It seems to sip fuel and the weird steering wheel doesn't annoy. It's got all of the toys and the fancy glass roof and seems positively futuristic compared to my 205 and 2CV. Place your bets now on which piece of shite French electronics will go wrong on it first. MrGTI6, Shite Ron, angle and 24 others

Based upon experience - weekly brake light bulb changes and boot no longer opening due to wires breaking where they pass through the hatch. eifion
Mrcento
Pretty sure it was me that said the half arsed shite comment 😂 And pretty sure i did also qualify it by saying the 3dr 2.0hdi, i'd still have despite that 😉 well bought. Just remember the VTS loves to crack its windscreen, seemingly if you drive off kerbs at an odd angle etc, body flexes and can crack it at the bottom. Mate had a 1.6 hdi 3dr and i quite liked it. Quality, it wasn't, but definitely very interesting from pretty much every angle.
Bitzer
AFAIK, their cable harnesses have a pervert habit of breaking a random wire. The location of the interrupted connection is the least accessible place, obvs.
RoadworkUK
Many, many internet points for the Who-referencing title. Also, great car. Datsuncog and eifion

I didn't say that at all as I love them... Someone on the C4Owners.org forum thought they look like a whale without the spoiler and I kind of know what they mean... Here's the pez shot of my most recent VTS when I picked it up with with @Daviemck2006 Can you see the real me in the reflection? Anyway anyhow, I can't explain why I had enough of this and gave it to my daughter, who's going mobile with it as a substitute for her Clio. Do you think it's alright? If so let's see action and hope you don't get fooled again! Is it in my head or do those two petrol pictures look very similar? By the way who are you? Datsuncog
I really fancied one of these when they were launched - which was highly unexpected, as the rest of the Citroen line-up c.2007 looked about as appealing as a bout of gastric flu, but nonetheless a change of job and the promise of a decent wage saw me down at the local Citroen dealer, eying up a 3dr C4 VTS... If the sales team had been anywhere decent, they could have stitched me up like a kipper there and then with a ruinous PCP deal, but thankfully they were a bunch of workshy pricks who completely ignored me, and when approached made feeble excuses about why they couldn't give me a test drive ("err... not enough petrol"), tutted and rolled their eyes when I said I had an Escort to trade in, and only after a fair bit of pressure (from me) deigned to take my name and phone number to call me back whenever they could get me a test drive. I'm still waiting. Mind you, it was probably a lucky escape, as the showroom C4 already had an inoperable boot release, while the glovebox had detached itself from the dash and was resting in the passenger footwell... In the end I kept the Escort for another year, then bought a Cortina estate... So it was always a 'nearly' car to me - be interested to see how this one pans out for you! Following with interest. eifion and Low Horatio gearbox
JJ0063
When these came out a friend of mine bought a brand new C4 Loëb and I was so jealous, I was rocking a brown AX and he basically had a rally car in my eyes back then. It was absolute shit. It leaked rain in various places, it had warning lights on the dash constantly, handling isn’t very good, just all round poor. I bought a 306 shortly after he got his C4 and the £500 Peugeot was head and shoulders above the Shitron. The HDI is a decent engine though and this is Autoshite so excellent purchase sir. sutty2006
I knew a lad who had one. In fact I think he still has it. He always thought the sun shon out of its exhaust hole, and repeatedly told me how great and reliable it was. He was strange, and I didn’t really like him that much. And full of shit. Etc. It was always breaking down.

I just selectively quoted the bad ones for comic* effect. stripped fred and FakeConcern 1

On 9/3/2021 at 6:38 PM, Mrcento said: I like them, they're odd. The 5 doors seem to have survived fairly well despite being right in that era of Citroen trying to be a bit quirky again, but in full swing of the PSA 'Fuck it, make em cheap and sell 'em on cheap finance at Arnies to young drivers' era where they just churned out any old half arsed shite. The coupes are properly interesting bits of design. Very few of them, bizarrely, have survived. Would definitely have a bigger engined HDI one.
