pandamonium
I've finally found my wife a car that is both 'shite' and modern and civilised. Here it is! A Perodua Nippa. 847cc and 3 cylinders of raw power! Shite enough for ya?
pogweasel
Looks thoroughly odious! Congratulations!!(Were you not tempted by the stretched pink chav limo the seller was also offering?? No? You do surprise me!)Anyway, it's deffo "shite"... ultimate poverty specification, looks desperately uncomfortable and like it would be most unpleasant to cover any significant distance in. Plus you have the added advantage of whenever you try to get bit for it, you are met with "A what?" and a blank expression. A sane person would have just bought a 13-year-old Corsa with frilly arches, so we must salute your madness and celebrate! Also, your wife must be a very tolerant lady. If I presented that to my dearly beloved, she'd have her bags packed and be off before you could say "...but it's very economical..."
pandamonium
She wanted a newish car, so voila! Its actually really civilised on the motorways, but then my other car is a Lada!
wuvvum
I remember when those came out, there was a segment on Top Gear where James May was going round trying to get random people to pronounce "Perodua" correctly. The result was much less amusing than the Top Gear producers were obviously hoping. If memory serves, though, the presenters didn't actually mind the car at all. I've never driven one, but I know people who have and they say that as a cheap town runabout they're actually very good - cheap to buy, easy to work on (adjustable wheel bearings etc) and nippy enough to stay with most things up to about 40. Possibly not the best long distance machine (wouldn't fancy doiong 70 in one in a strong crosswind) but pretty good at what it's supposed to do. Milford Cubicle
Superb, I'm looking for something similar myself109p a litre and the 31mpg thirst of my current car means quite terrifying dips into my bank account to reach civilisation. pogweasel
Agreed. It's that kind of money where hard decisions have to be made. I mean a £600 Ford Ka will be much, much nicer to drive. But will inevitable fail it's next MoT due to serious & rampant structural corrosion....I recall J.May testing the later Kelisa and being mighty impressed with it. I like them too. The Nippa is also the spiritual successor to your Lada Riva in being the sort of car given as a "prize" on low-rent TV-game shows and rubbish-bird's-mags wordsearch competititons. Lucky old you!Try living with 25mpg, and that's only if you drive like a very good boy and resist temptation to plant the loud pedal in the carpet (which when you have getting on 200 horsepower and RWD is nigh-on impossible....) pandamonium
Well the Nippa has FWD and probably below 45bhp! It'll cruise all day at 70- well it would if the speedo cable hadn't just broke on the trip home! Still, I can think of worse parts to have break! wuvvum
Or try 18mpg on 98 octane unleaded at 112p a litre (plus a shot of Redex). That's why the Volvo 164 doesn't get to go out very often. And why I've so far been resisting the urge to buy another '70s Cadillac.
pandamonium
Oh and just worked out that it returned close to 50mpg on the way back!!
Richard
Predictably enough, Clarkson was less than impressed with the Kelisa.
pogweasel
Oh and just worked out that it returned close to 50mpg on the way back!!Well that's a reason to be cheerful [part 3]! Which way did you go? Edgware> A1>M25 or Edgware>North Circ? Either which way it's good work as I imagine the economy to be awful on motorways. pandamonium
M25 route for me, kept around 60mph most of the way tho.
Guest
Quite funny to buy one as a modern car, as they are just a 1990 Daihatsu Mira, which is barely more than a widened version of the 1985 model!I've not driven an actual Nippa, but they're meant to be considerably more fun than they should be, on account of skinny tyres and a surprisingly revvy engine. pogweasel
So a Nippa Avanzato TR-XX is entirely feasable then? Dear god, that would be ultra bizarre.
Guest
Not just feasible, but has been done! I sometimes get Emails from Malaysian Perodua owners who have done the swap to their cars, (known as Kancil rather than Nippa). They also tend to import the Japanese-spec bumpers off sporty models etc.  ULTRA BIZZARE!

pandamonium
Having now equipped it with some suitably cack wheeltrims, and given it a wash, heres the result! Shitetastic!
andrewp
Chrysler 300c, Bentley Arnage, 7-series, no, looks like the baddest gangsta's cruise in a Nippa. http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?doc ... 1605620586
