could have been worse. glad it will live another day

Unless the welding womble has torched it... Should get it back tomorrow (although given previous experiences with this garage that might mean a week next April). Having faith at the minute though.

... I'll be glad to get it back, headlights on the Seicento are downright terrifying this time of year.

  • Grumblespeed changed the title to Grumblespeed: MOT day :)
  • 4 months later...

Been a while since I updated anything here - lost some enthusiasm when I actually stuck my head under the Pug and saw what the "guy the local garage knew" had done to the sill in the name of "welding" to the extent I sort of lost the will to put any more money into it as that would need re-doing if the car is going to live any longer than the next MOT. Really needs a new rear beam now, the play is getting gradually worse and there's an almighty clonk off the front O/S somewhere too that I can't pin down when the car is jacked up but which sounds like the wheel's falling off on the move.

...anyone want a GTi project?

Anyway, the weather's picking up so mostly using the Sei and this week it finally got the rear suspension refresh I've had in the shed for about 18 months but not been brave enough to try and undo the brake pipes.

So a pair of these off:

IMG_20220427_143420.thumb.jpg.e2e950c3faf5e6cf2726818860dde351.jpg

A good old rub round the newly exposed bits with a wire brush and a coating of old oil on any crusty bits

IMG_20220427_143424.thumb.jpg.f55fbc182cde551b31b301c9faa36050.jpg

Then the new stuff goes in:

IMG_20220427_164633.thumb.jpg.ccfdba63e4a358fc63524c905ca997b7.jpg

Refurbed rear arms with new bushes, brake pipes, brake backplates, shoes, drums, cylinders and bearings plus new KYB gas shocks.

Also a couple of weeks back it got this lot:

IMG_20220410_144401.thumb.jpg.c98ac1f80b06417a332783c6b3efe85e.jpg

New Marelli bottom arms and matching KYB gas struts at the front - just because when I was shopping for the rear shocks I found someone selling the fronts silly cheap so snaffled them for the hell of it, although the ones that came off were only a couple of years old (and one of those years it was mostly off  the road)

So now, bliss, all some of the little knocks and clonks are gone👍

  • Grumblespeed changed the title to Grumblespeed's Seicento Suspension Silliness.

Well, always nice to get some reassurance that the work's paid off. Another year's ticket on the little Sei with a clean sheet this afternoon👍 Guys at the garage described it as a "right little minter" underneath which must mean I've done a decent job of disguising the crusty bits for now😁

Don't look!! Me acquiring another motor means the Pug's got SORNed🙁 (well, it will after I've 'ad me tea anyway) Had a last run out in it today and it could still be great but just now - not so much - and it needs the sill sorting before anything else goes into it really.

..But anyway. Having spent a clear week wobbling about atop a metaphorical fence the arrival of the elusive V5 means this has come home with me:

I assume since it's here that I must have driven it home but I only really remember stopping for petrol since I did most of the drive on fumes. Proper Waftwagen this one. Also gave us the chance to get a sneeky peek at @Rocket88's new acquisition which was very cool too. Big thanks to the man himself for his patience while I dithered over this one.

Updates to follow, if I remember....

I don't think you dithered, you just stuck to your principles of not buying a car without a v5c and there's nowt wrong with that. In many ways you stick to your word and came back when it arrived, great work on both sides. I knew the logbook wouldn't take long as its just literally done one on my SEAT 😂😂😂

I'd love that pug as a project but I've too many cars and not enough time.... Plus I fear I'd hurt "lionheart" and end up putting his lovely 2.0L in my berlingo which would mean being banished from my favourite forum for life 😢😢😢

I could put the 1.6 16v back in it though and pretend to a new owner it was just a bit down on power 😂😂😂

I think that will sell very easily on here, its not really needing much and it's still got plenty of test as well.

I still love the picture of the dog on a Christmas card the PPO sent, so cute.

  • Grumblespeed changed the title to Grumblespeed - Now rolling in a Slowver. (better than rolling over, like my last Rover)

So, have I popped the bonnet yet for a bit of a service?

..nope

Started to remove the tragically saggy headlining?

...nope

Driven it anywhere?

...nope

Given it a quick wash & polish maybe?

...nope.

So what have I been up to?😁

Little Sei once again proving the worth of a teeny hatch vs a big saloon in the carrying awkward loads stakes.

Full set of Dunlop tyres too, 2 of them with healthy tread left (what's a 3 digit date code mean again?🙄)

Rather failed to get before shots of the headlining, suffice to say the fabric was only minimally attached in the odd spot to the backing material, and in places it was sprouting some pretty unsavoury mould. Car has obviously been standing for a good while and damp has got in the cabin, there are odd places where whoever has cleaned it up for sale has missed and it was clearly pretty rank.

Headlining fabric in the bin, ordered new stuff and suitable glue from ebay, watched some You Tubey vids on recovering headliners... How hard can it be?😁

Well, it's done and back in. Have to admit when I ordered "charcoal" fabric it's a bit blacker than I was expecting, but I've run with it and pleased with the results so far - as long as it doesn't settle back onto my head any time soon I'm fine.

note to self, grab handle needs a clean round the back. See what I mean about the mouldy interior.

There's some puckering around the corners of the indentations for the sun visors, can't get the hang of getting stuff round heavy contours, but the overall effect is good.

  • Grumblespeed changed the title to Grumblespeed - In the headlines..

Knocked off work early, got the weather, currently oil, fuel and air filters, bottle of oil and a set of plugs sitting waiting on the floor to go on/in the Rover so here we go!

Whole afternoon with a bottle of T-Cut later:

IMG_20220602_191647.thumb.jpg.bd0ea0909654af2cb23e93ad35db99bd.jpg,

Yup, Pug's still here, come on, scrap value anyone?

In other news, thought to have a closer look at the genuine Rover 600 rims I purchased... Anyone in need of a nice set of 4x100 Rover but definitely not 600 fitment rims🙁 At least I remembered to look before I got tyres fitted to them.

Is there an ad up for the Pug anywhere?

So for the sake of completeness now the cat's out of the car park it's farewell to the Peugeot, heading north of the border for some projectage with @davehedgehog31

IMG_20220605_091627.thumb.jpg.0200975b1dd58707c7a08bf5e9b6c7f9.jpg

Sent the spare rims with it so I now don't even have a spare set of Peugeot rims taking up space in the shed with no car they will fit like I have for the past few years. Which is good since I now have this set of Rover rims taking up the same space in the shed with no car they'll fit🤦‍♂️
