You don't see as many cars on steels and trims nowadays, is it a fashion thing? So, what's your favourite? What really irritates you? What's the ugliest? Get your submissions in! Thread inspired by the Maestro currently for sale, so let's start there! I actually love these Austin/Rover trims. Ladas always seemed to have some horrendous ones, but I suspect often they were just whatever the dealers had lying around! JeeExEll Posted June 25, 2021 Share Posted June 25, 2021 Around 1995 I bought a March 85 last-of-the-Mk2s 2.3LX 5-speed with these on it, my car was exact same colour. Didn't like them at the time as they looked 'Orioney' (new word invented™) so they were binned and I repainted the steelies. I thought the trims made it look like a giffer's tow-car. Surprisingly enough, previous owner was a giffer who towed a caravan. Car was a good-un though, kept it for several years and it gained a 2.8 from a minty original unrestored (but crashed) Capri 2.8 Special fed by a 38DGAS Weber. 185/70 14s were sufficient. Which looked like this: Same colour, same style (although his was an E) , the wheel trims never suited the car. My dad though wanted wheel trims to protect the wheels. So he went to a local scrap yard after trims to the fit the car. I think he tried for Rover ones, they either didn't have them or whatever, but he came out with a set of Peugeot wheel trims for a 405. Like this And do you know what? It worked. I always thought the Peugeot trims suited the Rover far more than the Rover trims. But then, the Peugeot trims are pure sex really.
