Wheel trims - The Good, The Bad and the downright Shocking

I'm not talking about eBay special vomit inducing wheel trim sets, I'm talking Factory fit or Dealer special wheel trims.

You don't see as many cars on steels and trims nowadays, is it a fashion thing?

So, what's your favourite? What really irritates you? What's the ugliest?

Thread inspired by the Maestro currently for sale, so let's start there! I actually love these Austin/Rover trims.

Ladas always seemed to have some horrendous ones, but I suspect often they were just whatever the dealers had lying around!

Around 1995 I bought a March 85 last-of-the-Mk2s 2.3LX 5-speed with these on it, my car was exact same colour.  Didn't like them at the time as they looked 'Orioney' (new word invented™) so they were binned and I repainted the steelies.

I thought the trims made it look like a giffer's tow-car.

Surprisingly enough, previous owner was a giffer who towed a caravan.

Car was a good-un though, kept it for several years and it gained a 2.8 from a minty original unrestored (but crashed) Capri 2.8 Special fed by a 38DGAS Weber.  185/70 14s were sufficient.

So years ago, say about 1998, some arse hole pinched the wheel trims of my Dad's Rover 820. Which looked like this:

Same colour, same style (although his was an E) , the wheel trims never suited the car.

My dad though wanted wheel trims to protect the wheels. So he went to a local scrap yard after trims to the fit the car. I think he tried for Rover ones, they either didn't have them or whatever, but he came out with a set of Peugeot wheel trims for a 405. Like this

And do you know what? It worked. I always thought the Peugeot trims suited the Rover far more than the Rover trims.

But then, the Peugeot trims are pure sex really.
