oh thats good to know because none of us have been able to figure out what would be a direct replacement battery for what the Model 70 was originally fitted with!

(cc @Zelandeth )

nice to see work on TPE KPL is continuing too :)

Let's also keep in mind that there are two types of battery clamp just to keep things interesting.

Granted, nothing to stop you running a tap along the rest of the bar on the longer ones I guess.  Those look to be designed to clamp onto the top/middle of the battery rather than the base though.  No idea which style corresponds with which age of vehicle though as these came out of an assorted bag of bits.

Think the short one is for the early cars that have it mounted next to the engine, I have 2 in a big pile of early bits I just got.

This is what I bought for Mrs6c's and it carries the same number 037.

Back in the early 1980's I sold them to fit Escorts, Capris and Cortina's.

P1330199.JPG

thats interesting to hear, that thats also an 037,

because I know for a fact, that that battery does not fit REV! (it was briefly borrowed when REV was refusing to start which in the end was down to dodgy fuse contacts) and we found it was too long to fit between the 2 brackets mounted onto her Front Out rigger, and I think it only fits in Dolly because she is missing her rear battery mounting bracket

so I wonder whats going on there, if Adams fit but yours does not?

Could be interested in one of those if they're available Adam. I think the bungee strap can be retired after three years...

Once I've ordered a new battery that is. Roll on payday!

Err you should already have one! (unless it did not fit?)

I've got a pair of 10" chrome hubcaps. Clearly they're no use to me. Maybe part of the planned meet-up is trim swapsies?

You're going to laugh...A pair of 12" wheel trims is the main thing in the box currently en route to you (and a battery clamp).

Parts stash, is something we all have and yes I have a good stash but something's are hard to find and some thing I have far to many of.

I have no spare glass at all York cars 3 & 4 needed every bit so that's the main reason I got cars 5 & 6, cars 7 & 8 have no glass ever.

Car 5 is the one I am working on its going to be a convertible so only going to need a windscreen and no door tops :)

Car 6 the ex SKY car has not much chance of been saved any time soon and very little left now :(

Car 7 has no body left and but can be saved if you have a big pile of bits.

Car 8 needs a body and I have robed parts to finish car 5 but its a driver and very saveable.

The big problem is body parts, front and back ends followed by doors and door parts and dash tops and seats.

Front suspension parts might be a problem but most of the rear end is Fiat 500.

Its like you need 1 or 2 spares cars to repair a 3rd car to road worthy condition, that's why I have got so many.

Some things you can give away or even consider skipping if you are short of room like exhaust down pipes, one side I have a crate full and so far I have never needed any.

Other parts I have to many of are Sun visors big box full.

Some parts are easy to find on ebay.

Anyway if anyone can find a car with good body parts I can defo build one more :)

another update via me for adam :)

as always things on KPL has been progressing :) with KPLs speedo being installed into her new dashboard (as her original sadly got broken during her stint with @OliD-E)

the dashboard was pillaged from the mostly complete Rolling chassis above, adam did not want to start borrowing bits from it, but had no choice as Dashboards n other such ancillary items like the seat frame assemblies dont grow on trees sadly

I like how KPL's speedo is still shiny from when @Zelandeth cleaned it up a couple years ago now :)

a battery was installed :)

and experments with a Jerry can where had

turns out jerry cans are not quite the same shape as Model 70 fuel tanks, pretty close tho

but most excitingly KPL was made to run again for the first time in a good couple years :)

and the rear engine cover was offered up

64903065332__B47CEB95-F566-41C7-89C8-D665D4D3E460.thumb.jpeg.2aa7d10dc54fb2b1360f8cc38e537833.jpeg

then returning to fuel tanks, @adam1db found a Stubby but wide 20L (same capacity as a Model 70 tank) Stainless steel Jerry that looks to fit like a glove :)

64918901969__090ED7DA-83B3-4020-8128-48DA3F208F82.thumb.jpeg.606ac3cc87b51e446491576e6fc1f21b.jpeg

so the sender unit was lopped out of a duff tank

64920065799__1651BC04-EE54-4EFE-B4E1-EEB04A88D46D.jpeg.ddad14df78a33f735aaf20c890d3f94a.jpeg

ready to be installed into the stainless steel Jerry can soon hopefully :)

and he also ordered today this nifty Fuel tank pick up, that @Mrs6C found, which he will try and see if he can fit it to the Jerry can to provide a fuel outlet :)

image.thumb.png.65d1237db6d6f4397f86f95b70a85f2f.png

which just leaves a method of strapping down the tank to figure out, but I think he is either eying up some custom Metal straps or some ratchet straps of some kind

the plan is to also to offer the Stubby Jerry can up to REV to make sure it does indeed fit a Model 70

as KPL had to have her entire fuel tank cradle and both front chassis out riggers replaced (as they where hacked off/about during her stint as a Caravan tug), so adam wants to make sure the Stubby Jerry can does indeed fit on a regular "un-messed with" Model 70

(as Adam is trying to work out a fuel tank solution that can be put together relatively easily as he is aware that there will probably be quite a Few Model 70's in need of new fuel tanks eventually)

and if it does all fit in REV, to then order up another tank and modify it the same so REV finally has a fuel tank :)

all in all some quite exciting stuff, on seeing KPL run for the first time, and finally some progress on the whole fuel tank situation which has been plaguing us for a good while now!

Kittens rear lights !!

I know you say it out of humour in this case

but it is always fun when people see Model 70 rear lights and genuinely go "oh reliant rear lights"

yet little do they know the Model 70 was the first road going vehicle (AFAIK?) to use these CEP rear lights! :)

so if anything when you see a Reliant Regal/Robin/Kitten etc you should go "Oh Invacar rear lights!" bet that would throw a reliant owner for a loop

I sadly still dont know what their exact whole unit CEP part/model number is, but they where used on the Model 70 from production start (or at least since Model 70 number 111 I know that much!)

but it was not until a full year later that Reliant switched from the ubiquitous Lucas L572 rear lights to these CEP ones

which is interesting as the Model 67 and the Model 70 prototype cars also used Lucas L572, but AC switched much sooner then Reliant did

I wonder why that is, where the Lucas L572 lights being discontinued by then and simply Reliant had a larger stash of them so only switched later, or did they both switch for other reasons?

it is nice to see KPL fitted with original rear lights rather than the much more common/easier to get ahold of Britax rear lights that where fitted to Model 70's in the 1990s onwards

since TPA also has original rear lights, so both of Zel's Model 70's have original rear lights, isn't that fitting :)

My guess is quite simply because it's what they had a source for at the right price at the time.

I'm sure you're correct, but my post was not entirely a serious one. I had obviously failed to communicate that correctly, for which I a-pole-ogise.
