I may as well post some of mine here, too.

Rather than do the sensible thing and take the DSLR, I took a circa 2002 Sony Mavica that records pictures onto CD-RW, just for shits and giggles.

It worked, though. More or less. Colour balance is way out, but the pics have ended up with a bit of an 'expired Kodachrome' look to them.

I mean, I think you get extra autoshite points for that tbh!

I agree. As far as I can remember that was the longest I've sat in a queue to get into anywhere (about an hour and 20 minutes) and I felt that the music, apart from being bad wasn't necessary. Apart from the queue to get in I had a great day. I was a bit apprehensive beforehand as it was the furthest I've been in the 205 since Chumley back in 2019 but I needn't have worried as the trip there and back was trouble free. I did turn the engine off while in the queue as after a while the fan cut in and as it doesn't have a temperature gauge (because French) I thought it best to err on the side of caution. It was a relief to finally get in and park up.

Upon arrival I found myself parked behind a certain Dacia of this parish.

Here are a few pics of some of my favourite cars of the day. Top of the 'I haven't seen one of those for ages' list had to be this Daihatsu Applause, a car which you hardly ever saw even when it was current.

Best of the rest.

My Dad owned a two door Mk1 Cavalier back in the early 90's so I was pleased to see this one, even if it didn't have a vinyl roof like Dad's did.

DSCF2414.JPG.9c333eb5c7689107e6cf3d52ab35c142.JPG

He also had a Connaught Green over Snowberry White MG Magnette so I was pleased to see this too.

After a few enjoyable hours of walking and chatting it was off home in convoy with @catsinthewelderand @MondeoBlues . I think we had the 205 of @Erebus behind us too for a few miles before Melton Mowbray.  All in all a great day spent with good company and some prime chod. When's the next one? 🙂

Yes that was me :) I went straight on at the lights in Melton when you guys turned right

the word "unexeptional" is incredibly subjective, but the event was packed full of cars that were, at the time, so common and so ubiquitous that most of working Britain drove them.

The way I look at "Unexceptional" is:  Would it be reasonable to see one of these being run on a budget, with scrape-through-the-MOT repairs being done towards the end of it's life?  If the answer is yes, it's nothing special, hence unexceptional.

Hence, the Porsche 911, Bentley Turbo R, De-Loreans, Jensen Interceptor and various other cars there were not unexceptional.  You just cannot picture any of these with wob in the sills, mismatched colour body panels,  4 mis-matched tyres with questionable levels of tread, scotchlocks in the wiring loom, cracked tail-lamps, wonky interiors with rips in the seats and general family/owner detritus strewn about inside them.  I like all of them, but that's not what this show was about.

My wife declared this SD1 her favourite car of the show. I felt very proud of her for saying that.

It is utterly gorgeous, though.

As was this:

Were it not for their well-deserved reputation to rust for fun, I'd have bought one of these years ago.

This seemed unimaginably posh. And the CAD numberplate is bang on.

The Skizzer / RobD Espace was a joy to behold. Nicola said about how she'd have loved one of these for holidays as a kid, and I had to concur. Still a proper world-beater, and timeless in design.

When you have a Busso'd 164, it's obligatory that you expose its ventricles to the world.

Very close to NSFW, that.

Frighteningly on-edge CX that must be a gnat's tadger away from absolutely crippling bodywork repair bills. Still unutterably gorgeous, though.

I have more, but they're worse, so I'll not force them on you.

We followed that CX in my micra. He wasn't hanging about!

Really pleased to see this, as I owned this Cavalier for a few months in 2007 (I did a double-take when seeing the registration on the Hubnut video).  Bought for £100 from the 97 year old original owner to save it from being scrapped, I put a pair of front wings on it (paint match looks better than I remember so maybe they’ve been done again!) and had the inners welded up.

Of the 30-odd cars I’ve owned I think this is the only one that survives (it’s possible the ‘78 Opel Rekord I sold to a guy in Belfast still lives too), which I never would have put money on at the time.

It was very nice and looked like it was in pretty decent condition. It's brilliant to know the backstory about this.  Great work in saving it from being scrapped.

Finally managed to get to this event after saying I would for years. The lineup of cars was honestly just incredible and I'm already excited for next year. Got to see lots of cars for the first time like the 25 GTi and the Seat Panda, and it was so nice to see stuff like a Safrane and Stellar parked next to each other.

My 214 made it without any issues at all and returned 45MPG over the whole trip. Was worried it was gonna start overheating in that queue, like any reasonable K series Rover owner, but thankfully it behaved.

I'd kind of lost interest in my cars for a bit there, and I think seeing all that shit in that field was exactly what I needed. So much so, that I've gone and dragged this bag of shite out of the ditch that it was sat in for the best part of a year. Really excited to get to more events, at long last.

That's Sean Padden's S1 Athena. I've only ever seen photos of it from the passenger side, and now I know why! You can still obtain new front wings for it - £350 - but it's a pain drilling out all the spot welds to remove the old one.

Great boost to the mojo, isn't it.  Although we're still in that post-show danger area where the eBay searches are being hit hard.  After seeing the wonderfully blue interior of @Kiltox's Mk3 Astra I'm wavering...

Nice Rover products BTW.

Which used to belong to someone (who's name I embarrasingly forget) who lived up in Glasgow.  It also used to be a C-Matic and ran LPG.  The C-Matic apparently had numerous issues, so the car was converted to 5-speed manual before being sold.

@davidfowler2000 and @dollywobbler clearly trying to outdo each other in the Shiniest Wheelz contest.

The wheelz on the Matiz were remarkably shiny given that it was just a coat of Vactan on them. I also heard a few folk wandering past the 205 giving it "Holy shit he's actually got the correct hub caps on that"

I had aspirations of finding a jet wash at some point to clean the 205 after I got back from London on the Friday but that plan was scuppered when I had to walk 1.5 miles back to the hotel in the rain 'cos the last bus went without me from the wrong stand in the bus station.

I do hope it's not in the same location next year.

Perhaps somewhere in the Midlands and with better access. It was dreadful.

The access wasn’t the problem, the traffic management was. Why on Earth were some people not entering via what was later the exit?

Wasn't that factory spec from JDL?

It was more that there was a massive bottleneck of only one vehicle being able to be issued with it's rear-view-mirror hanger at a time.  Which left people hunting for their ticket on their phone or getting it out of their back pocket, etc.etc.  then the hanger being issued, discussion about where to park, etc.etc.  Each car was taking 30 seconds to process, which is why there was a massive backlog of cars out onto the road, as you're only admitting 120 cars an hour, which is why there was up to a 2hr delay to get onto site.  Given that there was just one start time for EVERYONE to get there (which in itself is fecking stupid), they needed to be processing cars as fast as they could drive in (15mph say) up the access road.  That would have given them a capacity of  well over 1000 cars/hr, which is ten times what they were actually doing.

Had they split the arrival times up of concours at 9:00, Chod at 9:30 and modernz at 10:00, AND been processing cars at the higher rate above, everything would have happened without any queues at all.  It's not rocket science!

Given that it's a car show, the most obvious thing that needs organising is the vehicle logistics!  Were it just shovelling everyone straight into a single car-park, then you can get away with a more simple system.  This, you can't.  It's not like they were "caught by surprise" by the number of people there... it was a fixed number of tickets available!

I don't think it's the same car, unless there were two of that exact spec in the same place. The Glasgow lpg/c-matic was owned by Graeme somebody, and was an 'original' Autoshite car when I joined up a decade ago. That one has a TUJ reg.

That's the guy's name, thanks!  His one was definitely converted to 5-speed away from C-Matic, and was the absolute spit of this car.  Identical (very blue) trim.  Maybe I'm mis-remembering the reg (quite likely actually).
