Spoke with a friend who works almost exclusively on V8 Landrovers, hence knows the RV8 well.  His thoughts on the failed oil pressure sender:

"It's very unlikely to be the gauge, and all new pressure senders, despite being badged as Lucas are always Britpart (AKA Shitpart).  Best thing to do is get a second-hand old one from a breaker"

That must be one of the last Anglia's built. Production ended 67 and, presuming my eyesight is good, that's on an F, 68. Probably hung around because of the popularity of the Cortina.

Love the sound of a Rov V8. Mmmmm.

Didn’t they do some of the last ones in special colours from the Zodiac range? I wonder if that Anglia could be one, it’s colour looks unusual for an Anglia. Could equally have been done in a different colour on a resto of course, but your post made me think of the Zodiac to Anglia colours!

My thoughts too!

Think they did a very limited run in a couple of colours, not sure if that was one of them though. It had definitely been restored (mintiest of the mint) so possibly a colour change too.

some wibble about Anglias

Well would you believe it, I'm talking out my arse (unusual, that...).

I've just bunged in a Google search for "ford anglia silver" which by chance brought me to a previous Car&Classic ad for that exact car: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C926540

It's "Blue Mink" which was indeed one of the limited run colours at the end of production. I'm not an Anglebox fan by any means but the colour suits it well.

It's occurred to me that Mr Crackers is considerably more youthful than the majority on here, but has both the intelligence and enthusiasm to embrace not only the most advanced car of the 1960s (P6) but is also aware of a  colloquism of that decade, i.e. Anglebox. Not heard that term for years, thank you.

Ha !  you've really set yourself up for such HIGH STATUS :grinning-smiley-043:  (..a parachute might be needed to help break the fall !? )

..mind you that is only among us ..the shitiest  of the auto enthusiast world :lol:

Might I suggest you now fulfill your destiny to go on to buy ..nay concurrently  own  ..the crème of automotive saloon stature of various nations.  Perhaps next acquiring a Citroen DS Safari for its utility and oh-so-Parisian vocals, soon followed by an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce (1967 appears to be a good vintage for this particular Latin spirit and sweetness of pitch). The BMW 635csi (manual) ..would add tonal balance with its teutonic all round excellence, before you step over to Japan for harmonics in their Toyota 2000GT.   American cars are a bit brash for my conservative tastes but perhaps there's worth in slipping a modest little Barracuda or Grand Torino into the corner of your white-floored private stables for the sake of their reverberating bass percussion.

Just a thought..

One of the sexiest cars ever built IMO. Definitely up there on the "dream" list, but prices are only going one way 😔 I'd have one of I ever ran into a load of cash though.

I'd be standing staring at it every day. Wouldn't even car if it didn't drive, they're proper pocket shuffle material.

Luckily, with good ones easily clearing £35k, there's absolutely no risk whatsoever of that ever happening!

You forgot to add that being BL, they need to be the older, imperial size pegs, not those modern metric ones.

You mean one of these?

I think I may have seen you bumbling about the other week @Crackers . My stepdaughter works in that petrol station where you encountered the Ford Angular, she may well have served you!

'Kin hell, spotted already! Are you local then?

If you see me about, make yourself known, it'd be nice to meet a few local Shiters.

FWIW, according to the petrol receipt --> "Operator: Caroline"

Not my stepdaughter! I live in Chi not far from that Co-Op. I think in a month or so a small gathering somewhere would be viable; plenty of good places near here

In which case, yes, you almost certainly did see me. And probably heard me too... 😁

Yes, count me in for a gathering!

Just gone round to check the coolant leak situation.

This is what's come out of it in 48 hours, obviously it *should* be empty but this is much better than the wet patch it previously left on the floor would have you believe.

Flies optional, naturally.

Cool! There is a goodly number of shiters along the Sussex and Hampshire coast who I'm sure would be up for a meet when circumstances permit (mid-May), even then we'd have to limit ourselves to 30 people. I wouldn't suggest the Witterings though as the roads getting down there get. Happy to arrange something for the (near) future!

Just realised I hadn't replied about the Imperial tools from my neighbour.... They were all fkd, a mass of rusted metal corroded to the bottom of what was probably a nice tool drawer chest and cabinet. Nothing savable 😕

No worries, thanks for looking. I've borrowed* a load off dad for now, he's got no need for them.

I might have a bunch of imperial spanner’s, sockets etc stashed somewhere. They were in an old ammo tin.
I’ll have a look if you want?

I did have a Rover P6 brake wind back tool but I gave it away to someone on here. I think!

If it's alright with you, then yes that would be fantastic!

Had a nice little drive down to West Wittering yesterday with a couple of mates.

Oil pressure gauge/sender is still playing up, it rises halfway up the gauge when the engine is started and then gradually drops back to zero a few minutes later. No oil light and no nasty noises so still confident that all is well mechanically, a new Shitpart sender #TheOnlyGuaranteeIsFailure is £42 which is a bit salty so I might try and find one off a breaker (@Saabnut If it's not a hassle could I add that to my little shopping list with you please?). Topped up the coolant which had dropped out the header tank due to the minor leak, it sucked a little bit back in after a couple of heat cycles but not masses, which is good.

I'm planning to take it out a few times this week as I'm dropping it into a classic specialist at the end of the week for a full safety/condition inspection and to get some of the jobs done that I can't do outside my flat, so I'll probably not see it for a week or two after Friday.

Pootling about at 45mph down the back roads, it settles into a fantastic waft, trundles along at 1500rpm in 5th with a tickle of throttle pulling you along with the torque, and if you're gentle with it the fuel consumption is nowhere near as bad as I expected.
Still loving it. I should stop writing so many words about it, mind - never did get that journalism career off the ground.

I, for one, think you should continue with your verbosity. It might even lead to journalistic opportunities, keep up the fine work.

This depends a lot on your expectation.  My main experience with a 3.5 V8 on carbs is in a RR classic, and that drove like it had a permanent leak from the fuel tank.  15mpg was reasonable.  12 if you like the sound of a V8 and maybe 18 if you were bimbling along on a longer drive.  20mpg was impossible.  For that you need a later 3.9EFi and a light right foot.

That V8 wuffle, whilst lovely, was ruddy expensive.

My opinion on this oil pressure gauge problem seems to be even more inconsistent than the gauge itself!

3 seperate trips in it today, all a few hours apart, and the gauge behaved differently every single time!

First thing this morning, it rose part way up the gauge after starting and then gradually dropped back towards zero.

Second trip, nada, nothing on the gauge whatsoever.

Third trip, gauge comes up a bit, I watched it while the engine warmed up and it occasionally jumped to the right a bit with an audible "clack". Then part way through the trip it fell back to zero, started vibrating around near zero with an audible rattle (from the gauge needle! not the engine) and then gave up again.

Oil pressure light has still never come on while the engine's running, and a true zero oil pressure would definitely have sent a rod into orbit by now so it's definitely got some!

Repeat after me:
