An video.

Nothing too exciting, just the start up, lots of idle noise and some revs while letting the choke off.

The smoke visible in the 2nd and 3rd clip is nothing to worry about, just some crap burning off after it's long sleep. Once up to temperature the exhaust is completely clean as usual.

Featuring my entry for "campest mince away from camera" in this year's Olivier awards.

Utter filth ......love the wheels

Crackers on Tour: June 2022

The Cars of Crackers have had a busy month! I thought I would do a little photo summary as I've been out and every day I've been off work.

Jubilee weekend started in the depths of Kent at the RHDR:

Immediately followed by a change of pace with the Series making its first road trip:

A BINI looks enormous next to the Mazda:

The P6 was dragged out blinking into the sunlight:

Then driven straight back into storage.

Sampled some of the slowest vehicles around;

And some of the fastest!

Saw several million quid's worth of vintage gear tearing around my local circuit:

(that's not a high-downforce DB4, it's just the forum being stupid)

And finally today I am at the Watercress Line and have just managed to get the car up Bowers Grove Lane for a picture. Not something I'll be trying again as it nearly tore the front bumper off.

A busy month but a good one. I think it's the first full-on month I've had since Covid times and it's been fantastic to be back on the road every day.

Need to find a minute to give the Mazda a wash soon, it's earned one!

Dad's been flapping today.

Repro flaps don't have painted letters nowadays, and NOS ones are hundreds of quid, so he's been busy with the paint pens!

Rather wishing I would put some time into making improvements to the P6 like dad's doing to this.

Scored the hardtop for a good price on Ebay yesterday. Picked it up after work as it was local. Seems to be the correct colour, but the car is so dirty I can't tell at the moment!

Need to adjust the side catches a little and possibly revive the weather seals as there's a bit of unwelcome wind noise above 60mph. Condition is otherwise perfect though, and makes things a lot quieter inside (albeit including the exhaust, sadly :()

Hardtops are GR9, I've got a very ratty one on mine. Think it's a genuine one (no HRW - dealer fit?) but not sure. Makes the car a lot more usable, and I've never desired to take mine off. Opening the windows is more than enough.

Agreed and it'll pay dividends in the winter. I'll probably probably take this one off for the next month or so though, as I love top-down summer evening drives. Too hot for roofless in the daytime, mind.

Another good trip away in the Series this weekend, a faultless run up to the FOD and back again.

Nice to be able to get out across the main field for the first time, and catch the "characterful" bodywork in the last bit of the sunset!

A nice day today. Went up the road to Goodwood circuit to have a crack at the BMW Performance Track driving day, which, as usual for Goodwood, was brilliant.

Started off in an M4 Competition, I've driven one before and they are frighteningly capable but you do feel it's a heavy car. You'd really have to be a proper driver to get the most out of it.

Then took a step down in power and weight, and tried a Z4 M40i. I wasn't expecting that much but it was absolutely fantastic, much more precise and place-able than the M4, a bit slower but it felt a lot more confidence inspiring overall and I had a few absolutely cracking laps in it, the instructor even said afterwards that he'd gone quiet because he didn't really need to say anything! I really gelled with that car and would happily drive one (or a Supra) again.

Finally went into an M5 Competition for the last session, knowing it would be a heavier and less agile car, but it's not every day you get to use all of a 620bhp car. And yes, it's staggeringly fast. Coming down the Lavant straight I had 151mph out of it before the braking point, and the instructors doing hotlaps would have been going even faster.

Afterwards I went for a quick look around Rally Replay, a pretty cool place with lots of genuine rally stuff on sale.
