horriblemercedes
Can anyone tell me what this is? And if you know somewhere I can get a pair of sills for it, that would be even better. Will explain later Thanks

RayMK
People tend to replace the sloping units with whatever suitable units which will fit. The result is better lighting but awkward looks if you've always known them as having sloping headlights. Quite a common car in the 1950s. All of the Series E that buzzed around in the 1950s had slopers. The first non-sloping fitment I saw was about 10 years ago. Wiki seems to agree. When dad had his 1933 Austin 7 box saloon, several higher ranking RAF types had Series Es which seemed ultra modern at the time, though I never had the chance to ride in one. Our A7 was sold to make way for a 1954 Hillman Minx in 1960. It was a lot faster than the A7, more comfortable and had a heater but its sidevalve engine struggled to get past 65mph, not much quicker than a Series E. jonathan_dyane
They look shit without the proper slopey lights IMHO but I dare say you have a better chance of seeing where you’re going

I knew it was a Morris 8 but had to independently verify it because of the following conversation. Girlfriend's parents live abroad, for context. Girlfriend: My dad wants me to pick up a London taxi he has bought. Me: No problem. Where is it? I'm sure we can arrange that. G: Don't know, but he has sent some pictures. Shows me pictures of an FX4 Following day G: It turns out he hasn't bought a taxi. He just wants a set of sills for one that his friend has bought. Me: Oh, even easier. Off I go and find a reasonably priced pair of outer sills for an FX4 for sale online Another day later G: He says they won't fit. The car is apparently a TX4 and they're for an FX4. Me: The car in the picture is an FX4 though G: That was just an example. He says it's a TX4 Me: Can we see a picture of the taxi so I know I'm buying the right thing? G: Shows me pictures of a Morris 8 Me: It's not even a fucking London taxi! Split_Pin, Tadhg Tiogar, Fumbler and 28 others 4

Angrydicky
Could be anything, honestly! Why is he considering buying something he has so little interest in he doesn't know wtf it is? If he is serious about buying a Morris 8 series E, I can point you in the direction of a very good and helpful specialist who stocks most mechanical and brake components. Unfortunately, he doesn't have any sills. I suspect they're unavailable unless an owners club has had a batch made.

I just find the whole thing to be an amusing comedy of errors and mis communications. This is what I think the situation is: Friend of father in law has bought an FX4 with rotten sills and also a Morris Eight Series E with solid sills. Somehow father in law misunderstood and asked for help finding the wrong sills. They both have quite a few project cars on the go at any one time so probably an easy mistake, especially if they're organising stuff over the phone rather than in person. It's like Chinese whispers. The message goes through 3-4 people before it reaches me so hilarity ensues
Dick Longbridge
Probably best not to order sills. Can't you order him a domino's or something instead? Sounds more feasible right now. The whole thing makes me think of these two trying to understand one another.... Talbot and horriblemercedes 1

I find it funny that between us (two normal people with good car knowledge), we can be cocking it up so badly.
