A price he will probably get.

Is it because people like restoring them? Money wise it doesn't seem to make sense.  A shell seems to be about 7 grand, plus and engine rebuild, plus, paint plus all the other stuff. is going to be 10-12 grand at least.

This really nice one bought on this thread was less than that I think.

Someone was asking me if they think they could buy them and make a few quid off them by selling them on ebay (not me). I can't see there being any money in that to be honest.

The were rusty when they came in but it baffles me is how they got so much worse sitting inside in the dry for 10 years.

It's the age-old issue of a classic design (I'm not saying if it's a good or a bad design, but it's definitely a classic) mixed with very limted supply, easy repair work (No ECUs or other electronic nonsense) and a healthy dollop of nostalgia.

I'm fairly sure a re-shelled Mini, restored to a good standard is probably worth the £12k it would probably take to do it.  Even if you don't re-shell, but instead just do a massive repair on a Mini, you might spend £5k and have a car worth £8k.

There's also the fact that prices are rising, so if you built a decent Mini now and enjoyed it for a few years, it'll likely be worth even more when you decide to move it on.

The thought of buying a brand new shell and building up a fresh mini is quite an appealing project. Also the mini is almost unique in that it's not only a simple car but it has superb parts supply and is still a tiny car. Something that you can readily work on in a modern single garage.

I wish it was less than that.

This has roughly £14k worth of restoration invoices for 2017.

It then sold at auction for £10.5k plus fees 2019/20

It was taken to a bare shell as was an absolute dog.

Got the pics on a cd at home I was passed on.

Will get them up later.

The garage have just dropped it off (well shouted out the window its ready).

123 dizzy all fitted and seems to be running bob on. Third time lucky.

Don't be too surprised if the same symptoms occur on your first longer run.  If the garage found an ignition fault, fair enough.  If they also flushed and checked the fuel system, followed by a decent test run, then you can proceed with reasonable confidence.  I've been through a similar experience with a Japanese car.   Each time it FTP'd, I was assured by the dealer that all was now well. After FTP No.3  I was getting a bit fed up and fixed the bloody thing myself but despite it then running absolutely fine my confidence in it did not return. I had never had so many FTPs before!  Good luck anyway.  It's a beautiful little car.

I'd probably fit an online fuel filter as close to the tank as possible..

Definitely.  Mine have an inline filter in the rubber hose from the tank to the solid pipe, that comes out from underneath the rear subframe.  There's just enough space there and the filter is tucked up nice and close to the boot floor where it won't get damaged.

Me and few mates we big into Minis in the late 90s. We would go at least half a dozen shows a year. I always liked the Mini 30s, probably would prefer the Red one, but think the interiors are probably one of the best of all standard Mini, except perhaps the Mini Cooper 35 LE.

I seem to recall that the 30s seemed to be rustier than even examples from the same year? They seemed to go around the scuttle panel more than other Minis? Unless for some reason the black ones fared better I wouldn't be surprised if the 2017 rebuild was its second.

  • nacho man changed the title to Classic Mini. Alright now ain’t it

So over the weekend did 100/150 miles pleasant motoring.

123 ignition fitted, fires up lovely and seems to run bob on. For now.

Had a few bits I had accumulated, some already fitted, some fitted this weekend. Fitted a stereo and some speakers to replace to the x1 working rear speaker. Didn’t drill and holes or what not, so all reversible but just making it nicer for Mrs T.

Got a few pics that came with the car and I know some rust pervs wanna see them. So here you go.

Takes me right back to stick, yes stick welding the floor pans of my 78 s registration.

Previously I’d done those rear sill corners too, good god they were rot boxes but I do love them.

I can’t find a pic so have one of my second one a P reg or keki p as it was known.

Was Elton John a Mini driving mate of yours?

Your driveway is definitely too full now. You'd better sell me the M5 to make things better (for me)

Ha Ha

Its actually for sale, not really trying that hard to though, but I need to claw back what's been put into i.e. lots and lots and lots.

Yeah, I think the ship has sailed for me on those sadly. I've fond memories of my e34 M5, it was a weapon.

I'll not hijack any further but have you seen M539 restorations on YouTube? Well worth a watch if not!

Yes love his vids.  Even if it is 35 mins of a bloke servicing his car.

Still enthralled.

I love it too but all I can think is "how much are all these OEM parks costing?" as he fits an brand new OEM arm rest to 20 years old e46 3 series.

i'm right outta love with both of mine right now.

to such an extent that i cannot wait to be rid of them both!!

i'll miss them, i guess, if they do get sold.

i missed the Jaguar when it went, well i missed the car, i didn't miss its needy nature and the constant bloody bills!!

You will have no problem selling them. Just ask twice what they are worth.

Everyone else asks thrice what they are worth.

  • 2 weeks later...

This has seen some action this week with Mrs T bombing about in it, doing odds and sods.

She has got the hang of it now and bombs along at a good rate.

I was never a fan of classics that everybody  most people like. Never did anything for me. But it’s nice to be able to get literally anything next day.

Anyhow I am going to whore some more pics out taken for the agreed value cert.
