Should I put a letter through the door.

Today I went for a walk and I’ve never noticed it before but there’s another Ti around the corner from me  which is in a lovely blue green colour and looking at the MOT history it hasn’t moved for about 3 years but has a little rot on it but doesn’t look that bad from a quick glance.

I didn’t want to pry or have a good nose around as it’s on someone’s drive and wondered if any of you guys have managed to buy a car from posting a note through the door.

It needs a new rear number plate at least, someone's been drawing on it.

I left a note on a car once, I got a polite call with a 'thanks but no thanks'.

As said, they can only say no or ignore the note as a worst case - and they might say yes. Write the note and see what happens.

It's how I got the Princess.  If you don't ask, you'll never know.  Just try to make sure the note has decent spelling and clear writing with more than one contact method.  Doesn't hurt to say 'thanks for taking the time to read this' either.

Have a walk past and if they're elderly perhaps send them a letter. A politely worded one might do the trick, as some people get spooked by door step callers they don't know.

So I wonder what do you think it’s worth if it gets to the negotiating stage.

If it beyond repair then I guess it might be useful for a few spares for my mint example but the interior and exterior are different colour to mine as my example is mechanically perfect so I doubt any of the engine components will be of any  use to me.

Here’s its last mot.

I've just given my business card to a bloke around the corner from my mother in law's house.

51 reg Omega 2.6 Elite. I've been meaning to put a note through the door for months.

He was outside in the sun washing his wife's mk6 Astra.

I engaged him in socially distanced conversation.  Told him about the omega owners forum, said if he ever wanted to sell it, I'd help him find someone, who would cherish it.

He paid £7k for it in 2004, and it's done 95k. He's done 600 to 1000 miles a year for the last 5 years.

Here's hoping he puts my card somewhere safe.

Last time someone knocked on my door asking if I wanted to sell my cars to them I told them to fuck off and move sharpish before I escorted them off my property.

There's no need to be rude.  Take their phone number and phone them up at 3 am in the morning 5 years later, asking if they are still interested.

I’m not knocking on anyone’s door all I’m doing is putting a note through  the letterbox and if the owner wishes to sell it or keep it then it’s up to them.

I doubt it would ever be as nice as my Hellrot Ti but before I bought this one about 6 years ago it hadn’t been used properly for about 5 years apart from going for its yearly MOT and I didn’t realise that when a bought it and it did it’s 150 mile trip drive home without hesitation but I didn’t even have to look at it really as you could tell the owner and the car were really genuine.

So hopefully if I did manage to get the green  car it shouldn’t be that much trouble to get it running and the M44 is a fantastic engine and hope it’s a manual but beggars can’t be choosers.

Out of all my old motors the Ti is the car I could never part with as it’s immaculate and cheap to run and great fun to drive.

I really don’t know why I want a rusty one  as I sold my lovely low mileage cabriolet E36 in the summer for £1200 and could easily throw that money on that compact and I know they’re not desirable but they’re my favourite E36 to drive.
