Vince70
Today I went for a walk and I’ve never noticed it before but there’s another Ti around the corner from me which is in a lovely blue green colour and looking at the MOT history it hasn’t moved for about 3 years but has a little rot on it but doesn’t look that bad from a quick glance. I didn’t want to pry or have a good nose around as it’s on someone’s drive and wondered if any of you guys have managed to buy a car from posting a note through the door. stripped fred, Cavcraft, Split_Pin and 4 others
tommotech
What’s the worst that can happen, they tell you to go away but you’ll know where you stand. If you’re genuinely interested and want to save it then definitely get writing that note. Vince70
Sham
It needs a new rear number plate at least, someone's been drawing on it. I left a note on a car once, I got a polite call with a 'thanks but no thanks'. As said, they can only say no or ignore the note as a worst case - and they might say yes. Write the note and see what happens. Vince70, GrumpiusMaximus, spartacus and 1 other 1 1
Vince70
I’ve got a set of style 36 BMW wheels sitting in my garage that I need to put on a car and I think they would look lovely on a entry level E36. I wasn’t sure if I should put someone else’s number plate up that’s all. privatewire
SmokinWaffle
Why not knock the door? I've gotten a few cars through notes in car parks, knocking, letters. Just be respectful and make it clear you aren't a dealer or a pikey. Even got a free Mondeo once! Jifflemon and Vince70
Timewaster
I hate people knocking on my door, but I can't see a polite letter causing anyone too much bother. Craig the Princess and Vince70
vulgalour
It's how I got the Princess. If you don't ask, you'll never know. Just try to make sure the note has decent spelling and clear writing with more than one contact method. Doesn't hurt to say 'thanks for taking the time to read this' either. Cavcraft
Have a walk past and if they're elderly perhaps send them a letter. A politely worded one might do the trick, as some people get spooked by door step callers they don't know. Robson3022
Yeah note/letter all the way. Ideally don’t knock I think it can ruffle people up the wrong way. Nothing wrong with asking if you see them though! Vince70 and Low Horatio gearbox
sierraman
Put some riggers on, turn up in a track suit and a Smiley Transit beavertail and bang on the door with pounding fists repeatedly. chodweaver, meggersdog, Cavcraft and 15 others 2
Agila
Personally, go with the letter option. Fully identify yourself, name and address and contact number. Leave it with them to contact you and make that clear (no obligation). If you don't hear anything then leave it. Then see what happens. ETCHY
I got my Ford Anglia from posting a note through the door. The car was utter shit & a complete money pit that I sold for a loss. Vince70
So I wonder what do you think it’s worth if it gets to the negotiating stage. If it beyond repair then I guess it might be useful for a few spares for my mint example but the interior and exterior are different colour to mine as my example is mechanically perfect so I doubt any of the engine components will be of any use to me. Here’s its last mot.
New POD
I've just given my business card to a bloke around the corner from my mother in law's house. 51 reg Omega 2.6 Elite. I've been meaning to put a note through the door for months. He was outside in the sun washing his wife's mk6 Astra. I engaged him in socially distanced conversation. Told him about the omega owners forum, said if he ever wanted to sell it, I'd help him find someone, who would cherish it. He paid £7k for it in 2004, and it's done 95k. He's done 600 to 1000 miles a year for the last 5 years. Here's hoping he puts my card somewhere safe. Vince70

R1152
Last time someone knocked on my door asking if I wanted to sell my cars to them I told them to fuck off and move sharpish before I escorted them off my property. There's no need to be rude. Take their phone number and phone them up at 3 am in the morning 5 years later, asking if they are still interested. sutty2006, Low Horatio gearbox, chodweaver and 7 others 2

I’m not knocking on anyone’s door all I’m doing is putting a note through the letterbox and if the owner wishes to sell it or keep it then it’s up to them. spartacus
Spottedlaurel
Yes, notes have worked for me several times. Sometimes almost immediately, or maybe months/years later. A landline number is good, if possible. Vince70

Vince70
I doubt it would ever be as nice as my Hellrot Ti but before I bought this one about 6 years ago it hadn’t been used properly for about 5 years apart from going for its yearly MOT and I didn’t realise that when a bought it and it did it’s 150 mile trip drive home without hesitation but I didn’t even have to look at it really as you could tell the owner and the car were really genuine. So hopefully if I did manage to get the green car it shouldn’t be that much trouble to get it running and the M44 is a fantastic engine and hope it’s a manual but beggars can’t be choosers. Out of all my old motors the Ti is the car I could never part with as it’s immaculate and cheap to run and great fun to drive. I really don’t know why I want a rusty one as I sold my lovely low mileage cabriolet E36 in the summer for £1200 and could easily throw that money on that compact and I know they’re not desirable but they’re my favourite E36 to drive.
