Kwik Kwestion for @JMotor

How is the 'Stro filler neck held onto the body at the top?

I was underneath mine at the weekend and reached up to touch the top part just downstream of the filler 'hole', it was pretty crusty so I'm thinking I should fit my nicely painted replacement.

But it wasn't obvious to me how it's secured to the body...

No probs @grogee

On mine, the filler neck held in the filler pocket by the rubber donut  and about mid way down with a cross headed screw. Get a good fitting screwdriver and it will be tight to come off if it's never been off. Then a jubilee clip on the rubber feed pipe.

Really simple. Even easier when some of the fuel filler pocket comes away with it as well 🥲.

Ah yes. Shed time!

I've been busy(ish) today.

Started off by scuffing down the primer. There is a few high spots. Can live with them as they'll be sorted soon.

Something was bugging me as well. This particular section got some attention.

It didn't have any proper line to transition from arch to lower quarter. Feared the bumper cap might not want to fit. Or would just look straight up shit! So I went at it with the grinder and cut a slit in to reshape it and welded it back up. The end result you can see is still not perfect, however it's a good start.

I've learnt to not be precious about my work. If it doesn't fit or look right, change it. I'd be quite pissed off at myself if I discovered a fitting issue/looks fucking awful after it's been painted.

The primer used has helped a lot. As it's filled in a lot of the smaller imperfections. Like here. A mere sniff of filler will be needed to finish that.

Although it's not all good. Some sections did need some P40 spooned on.

Unavoidable really. I'd already sank this bit in way too much with my dicking about. Thought it best to stop there and let the fibreglass filler take over. Really isn't thick there at all. 2-3mm at worst.

More P40 was used to level areas off. Likes of the fuel filler area got a wee skim.

Oh aye. More was used on a couple of deeper dents on the arch lip on the other side.

This is all in aid of getting back to the original shape and most of what you see will be sanded off. With the actual filler doing all the final finessing of the panels.

That'll be tomorrow's job after another sanding session.

Better than factory that kid 😎

Ooohhh there's time yet lad 😆.

Oooh. Hang on! It might be!

Discovered by accident the drivers rear door actually doesn't sit flush!

So yeah I will be improving over the original once that's adjusted 😂.

First pass of filler.

Looks a wee bit caked on. It's not too thick but I want enough material to sharpen up some body lines. This will be sanded and another layer put on.

First time using Upol Dolphin filler. It's runnier than the usual gear I'm used to.

Driver's side got some areas filled over. That'll need more attention soon.

I'll be glad when it's done as sanding can be quite tedious.

Shouldn't complain. Even at this stage it's a massive improvement over how these arches used to be last year. Kinda incredible to think both sides were rebuilt looking back.
