Probably most bar I think a V10.

owned flat four, flat six, straight 4,5,6 and v8.

Driven a fair few 3s but never liked them to be honest. Drove a couple Of 12s in a jag and BMW.

Aldo driven turbo, supercharged and one with nitrous. Most bases covered.

Bold my cars, the rest have been borrowed. Good job I have Australians in the family who like a Barra 6 or V8 diesel to make up the numbers.

Not that many different configurations really.

Transverse 3, too many tranverse 4s to count (petrol and diesel), inline 4, flat 4, V6*, V8.

* Volkswagen VR6 engine, which is either a narrow angle V6 or a wobbly straight 6 depending on who you ask.

Nothing terribly exciting or obscure.

Single cylinder:

Marshall S Type roller, various low volume agricultural disasters from great manufacturers such as Trak Grip and Garner.

Twins:

Vee: Ducati 916, Ducati 748, Ducati 900SS

Parallel: Yamaha TRX850, Fiat 126

Steam shit: Fowler T3B, Sentinel Super, Sentinel DG4

Three: Triumph Daytona 955i, Triumph Trophy 900, Fergie with a Perkins triple in it

Four:

Inline: VX220, Sentinel S4, 944, 944 Turbo, Bimota SB6, Honda Fireblade, Scammell Scarab,  pretty much most things I've had or driven have been inline fours

Flat: 63 Notchback

Six:

Bedford RL, Bedford TK, BMW 520i, 911 CS, Dodge Commando with a Perkins six, Scammell Pioneer

Eight:

RR P38 4.6, Audi A6 V8,  Series 3 with a V8 jammed in it, MG ZT 260. Obviously never drove it but for a while there was a 450KVA emergency generator with a mutant V8 twin turbo charged Dorman engine on it. That sounded amazing when you started it.

Really ought to get round to it:

Straight 8, V12.

Thinking about this has made me realise I've never driven a V8 despite having driven two V12s, an Aston DB9 and a Jag E-type on a rather brilliant trackday experience thing my wife bought me a couple of years back

I'll still to what I've actually owned though for my brief history;

3 cylinder - a mid 00's Mitsubishi Colt, and my wife's current Kia Rio

4-cylinder - too many to list but nothing very exciting

5-cylinder - Volvo C70 convertible, probably my favourite car I've ever owned

6-cylinder - just the two here, a diesel straight 6 in a Range Rover and a Rover KV6 in my old MG ZT-T that gave me my username

I really need to own a V8 sometime soon. Suggestions welcome...

V4 - none to my knowledge

Flat 4 - none to my knowledge

Inline 5, front, trans, FWD - Volvo 850 estate
inline 5, front, long, FWD - 1992 Audi 90, like an 80, but better.
Inline 5, front, long, RWD - Merc Sprinter 🤮

No other 5-pots

Inline 6, front, fwd - none
Inline 6, Front, rwd - Bedford TK, Ford Zephyr Mk2, Ford Zodiac Mk2, Triumph 2000 & 2.5Pi mk2, most HGVs I’ve driven

V6, front, long, RWD - Capri 2.8 Injection, Reliant Scimitar

Boxer 6, front any - none

AFAIK I’ve yet to drive any vehicle with more that 8 cylinders. Want to drive a V10 because noise

In 1977, t the age of 17 I started with a flat twin:

Then I owned several company cars, before moving onto a certain 2-stroke......

Back onto another kind of flat, this time a 4 cylinder one....

....Before venturing back to another twin flat....

There have been dozens of other less interesting cars in among these, but I honestly couldn't list or remember them all!

Spooky, I was only thinking last night if I include cars that don't work I've got 3, 4, 5 & 6 cylinders. Was a car ever built with 7 for some weird reason?

I've not heard of any, but it used to be common for radial aircraft engines to have odd numbers of cylinders, normally 7 & 9 but occasionally 5 & 11 cylinder ones were made.
