Should you find yourself in or around Portsmouth, especially on a rainy day, and you look in your rear view mirror to see a following astra H in silver, with some Sri bits attached - think yourself, it could be THIS astra H in silver, papped today in the works car park

Yes sir or madam, you have had your 'moneys worth' from this particular set of front tyres.

It had an advisory in July 2020 for front tyres close to the limit, so clearly

A. Does a lot miles considering the circumstances

B. Has had lethally bald tyres for 8 months and counting

Stick a big notice all over the windscreen with hard-to-remove glue saying he or she (cant be sexist!) has been reported to plod.

Definitely report that.  If they have to do an emergency stop in the wet because a child steps out in front of them, they’ll be aquaplaning to tragedy and a court appearance.  If that’s not worth spending £100 to avoid I don’t know what is.

Or maybe they will be travelling a speed directly behind you on a motorway just as the traffic up ahead slams its brakes on....

I picked up an air filter from there once, got home, pulled it out of the box to find it was jet black and heavily used.  Took it back and the person behind the till just rolled their eyes.  'It happens all the time...' while they swapped it out.

Didn't quite say, 'so why don't you fucking check them when the box isn't sealed, then?' but should have.  Evidently people take the filter, fit it to their car, put the old one back in the box and claim a refund because it the 'wrong part'.  So they've failed to check it twice...

I had the same thing happen with a wheel bearing I bought from them for my sons Suzuki Jimny

I'd have stuck a screwdriver in the sidewall of each one, maybe.

If you see it again, leave a note on the window. I did that on a car that was parked where I regularly walk the dog. Next time I saw the car there it had new tyres on the front! They weren't as bad as the ones posted above but my note said the tyres were very dangerous and illegal!

Edit- if its in your works carpark someone must know who's car it is!

Embellishing your report slightly* usually gets a good result from 101.

Stuff like this really does make you wonder what goes through some people's minds

In 40 years of driving for a living I've never done anything like this , I have missed a few junctions , 15-14 on the M1 was a pita once but it never entered my head to go from lane 2 across the chevrons

I just did the loop swearing all the way :D

Sod's law it's obviously AFTER the water meter.

I wonder if Anglian Water had assumed we'd recently started a car valeting service, given there's only been 2 of us here for the last 7 years..

My next door neighbour had this happen to him.

I didn't appreciate the mini-digger firing up at 6 am to find it.

The guy we've got doing it is an ex council plumber, he's in his 60's so 10am is as early as he likes to start.

We've got a narrow driveway so he's doing it all by hand. Just breaking the concrete with a drill and then digging the trench out with a spade.

ECP. Any part for any car though m9.

Except pretty much every car I work on. I actually emailed their office once about that slogan and told them it's absolute shit but alas, no reply.

I watch a few car repairers on YouTube who are in the US. They use the chain O'Reillys to get their parts, and they really do seem to have everything.

Not sure if that is true, or maybe the YouTubers get a small kickback to say it is.

Yeah, that chain seems to be the go to place. I also like how most towns in the US have in stock, carb rebuild kits for any car since the 1940's. If I go now to my local factors and ask for say a 501 bulb, I'd be shown an LED colour changing kit and a mountain bike.

I remember holidaying to Oregon in 2018 and wandering into a car parts place. There were shelves of performance intake manifolds for all manner of big old American V8s, and carb rebuild kits alongside entire performance carb kits, huge pancake air filters too. It was awesome.

The Visa had a new starter motor fitted by the guy doing the bodywork in June last year. I due to Covid and other happenings I only got it back a couple of months ago and only got a battery on it today to have a play with it and try  and get it to run.

I told the fella that these 652cc starters are mega rare and that while 2CV starters look the same, they have a different number of pinion teeth and can't be used. Turns out his local Factors said they could fix the original, then said they couldn't but had managed to find a brand new replacement- £100 which was very cheap considering they're so hard to get.  I asked him to ensure he kept hold of the original, but the factors had already disposed of it for some reason, that boiled my piss on it's own but at least I've got a brand new starter motor.

Fast forward 8 months and I'm finally able to do some work on the little Citroen. The starter sounds absolutely bloody awful. Remove the starter and you've guessed it. It's a 2CV one. 9 pinion teeth as opposed to 10.  Now I've got an overpriced 2CV item that's absolutely useless to me and as my original starter has been lost/scrapped/used to power the Perseverance Mars rover I can't get it reconditioned.

Is there a time limit for returning incorrectly supplied parts? I'm really rather pissed off with it all tbh.
