A screw up at work meant being asked to be nice and put in the hours to cover for the idiot..... No overtime and no hours in lieue - a one off so let's just muck in and get it done.

3 weeks later and the fuckers emailed everyone - they've noticed some are late online and off sharpish at 5-5.30.....

My 1 2 1 tomorrow - it won't be pretty - the ungrateful bunch of wankers

Best thing about work , is I stopped ....

Same stories off everyone about hols , helping out , time keeping and office idiots ....

Which goes against established best practice for HR.  First come, first served is the standard practice.  Parents shouldn't get priority - after all having children is (in the vast majority of cases) a lifestyle choice.

Also it's a problem that pretty much solves itself, really - those without kids will generally not want to go away in the school holidays because everywhere is packed with screaming kids and three times the price.

My mate had this recently with a manager that hadn't been properly trained.  Eventually HR stepped in and pointed out the company policy.  Issue is that her partner is a teacher - but they have no kids - so if they want to go away together then it has to be in the school holidays and was being effectively penalised for not having kids.  My other half is a teacher so we have the same issue.  First come, first served really is the fairest way of doing it.

HR best practice, the modern equivalent of the Pope speaking ex cathedra.

My T2 is ready to collect from the garage. Serviced and inspected - inline with having an MOT which it no longer requires - it's also had a new, vacuum advance distributor fitted to replace the 009 and the front suspension raised to get rid of its idiotic & unintentional rake. Sadly, I took all of the camping crap out of the bus & put it in a tent on the drive. If anyone thinks I'm spending an hour trying to tuck all that lot back in again in this weather, they have another thing coming. I shall sit hear* in front of the fire & attempt to consume my own body weight in bacon cobs and tea.

I have 3 lock-ups in a fairly secure, gated compound. Several attempts have been made to get planning permission to knock down and build housing, all refused. Only the latest one has just been granted on appeal. Even more ammo for the Mrs's campaign for me to get rid of the valuable items that WILL have a use one day crap. Not a good day for me.

Sick to back teeth of people using the snow as an excuse to not go to work, I think people’s attitude would change if they had a days pay docked.

Especially in places that don't really get it bad.

On the east coast we very rarely get it bad. Whereas from the videos I've seen from my Dad, where they live in Norton near Sheffield, they got it good and proper.

I've never worked anywhere that's paid you if you're snowed in. The most irritating thing was when they'd phone you to say don't bother coming in, which meant a day's pay lost.

Picanto went into the garage on Tuesday to get it's sporty* exhaust fixed. Only that she came back as shouty as ever as the mechanic was too busy with other work.

Am confused.

I know where you are coming from. My MG was booked in 3 weeks ago, the garage still has it ' as they are very busy' 🤷

I live near there, it was bad but not bad enough that you couldn’t get to work. If you wanted to.

Border TV news tonight. Their lead story was about the snow . People going on about the most snow they’ve ever seen etc etc  Go to scene of kids sledging down a slope more green than white and pictures of fields just about covered with snow. I’d have been embarrassed to have been that reporter.
FFS what’s wrong with people? OK in the Pennines and Lake District there are high level roads that will be blocked and I get why the police close them , but it’s ridiculous the way people wet themselves at the sight of snow.

Modern tyres are also part of the problem. When 155 or so with a tread pattern not designed solely for low rolling resistance was the norm and with 70bhp considered “sporty”, there didn’t seem to be such a panic. Now you see news footage of cars stuck on a 1:150 slope because they’ve got 225 tyres and 150bhp just spinning the wheels.

Living in the Border TV region and watching same news it's a complete load of bollocks, I can remember multiple occasions where there has been significantly more snow, in 2002 we had 2 feet of the stuff for a week, it was a light dusting at best and had all but gone 8 hours later,  it's pathetic really.

Couldn't get out of the door yesterday for the snow.  It must have been at least an inch deep.

These things irritate me:

Stupid plastic earth pin that breaks off and has to be stuffed into a socket to hold it open so the thing can be used, making the socket both unsafe and unusable for anything else.   generally glue them to an adaptor but it makes for a huge and ugly kludge.

This was in an extension lead that I need at my son's to install LED lights in his garage.

I’ve thrown away loads of good Christmas lights for that reason.

The little bastards DID get into the frame.

IMAG6684.thumb.jpg.fc6b506bd1d45f10314cf6b182eff758.jpg

On a positive note, it's not so bad the wood is collapsing and I think like the other damage to the plywood, I've caught this early enough that I shouldn't have to replace the wood.  Doesn't matter anyway, I haven't the skills and resources to be replacing wooden framework so what I'm doing will have to be good enough.  They've only attacked the thin strip of exposed wood between the inner arch and the outer wing and again only where the wood was bare with no protection on it.  I took a screwdriver to the surface to break off the soft chunks hiding the dust/poop beneath, and then liberally scrubbed everything I could get to with a brass brush.  No power tools here since it's wood, I don't want to be reprofiling good material, just getting rid of bad material.  In the process I did evict a couple of bugs so hopefully that will help prevent the spread.  Once it was as cleaned as I could manage it got hit with a couple of coats of woodworm killer and it'll get another dose soon too.  For now it's a case of arresting development of further problems.

In an ideal world, I'd peel the aluminium shell off the affected area, remove the damaged wood sections and replace with new before reassembly.  The trouble is, I'm working outside on the drive and have none of the tools needed to do that sort of in depth work.  I'm not especially thrilled about this discovery, and I know I'm not repairing it 'properly', but it is what it is.  I did also find a small section of rot further along that isn't woodworm damaged, that seems to be caused a long time ago by the rear window leaking so I dealt with that in the same way as the woodworm and will be putting a repair section in there as soon as I have the materials to do so.

I'm hoping I can get away with something like a wood epoxy for the shallower damage and perhaps a couple of small sections of ash glued in (this does seem to be standard repair for minor rot issues) for deeper areas.  The welding on this car has proven to be the easy bit, it's the carpentry that's been the bigger issue for me.

Hazel across the street went out for a meal at a pub. When she walked in she heard a familiar screeching, Mrs from cunts next door. She was very drunk and rowdy. 20 minutes later Mrs CND is punching a man in the head for spilling her pint. Landlord throws her out with your barred. Mrs. CND gets in the range rover sport, loads up her children and speeds off into the night.

So Hazel, what did the cops say when you reported her for drink drive?

Oh, I didn't report it because I didn't know the number to ring. DOH!!!!!!

Totally understand your approach and sorry you’ve found more worm damage. Some hardener on the damaged areas after worm treatment might help before filling.

That's the plan.  Ordered myself some syringes for filling the holes with treatment, some wood epoxy, and will be grabbing some wood hardener when I'm next out on errands.  It's all part of the learning experience and since I'm documenting it via Youtube vids, hopefully it'll help others not be so scared of it if they want to venture into motorised sideboards.
