Bren
Took the 545 to Preston for an autobox service. Due to rona I could not wait at the premises - I walked to a retail park to kill a couple of hours. Due to the car requiring a new mechatronics sleeve the job took another couple of hours. I walked up an down Blackpool Road so many times I was expecting somebody to call the 5-0. I should have done a sponsored walk. What I did see however was THE biggest dog turd I have ever seen - it looked like it had been left by something prehistoric. Mine's just had the mechatronics lump rebuilt, along with the valve body. Can't wait to get the old heap back - I have another Coarser for the week but at least this one has a light-coloured interior and a real satnav, which'll be useful on Friday when another electric fire lands in R1152-land. Remspoor
Dremel type tools. Those disc wheels they sell, no mater which brand are as good as a chocolate tea pot. If I can make my own from left over angle grinder discs then why cant the manufactures? I do hate make them as it will damage the scissors and they are never perfectly round at first. But hey do cut and they do last longer than the chocolate tea pot.
somewhatfoolish
There are better ones that are reinforced with fibres like proper angry grinder discs, they are quite a bit thicker though, perhaps twice as thick as the shatter-o-matic discs. chaseracer and Remspoor

Gun laws very much depend on which State it is. I haven't yet seen the follow up to a gun story that I was following which went roughly as follows: Cops turn up at house. Granny appears with shotgun. Cops shout at granny. Granny ignores them. Granny aims shotgun in direction of cops. Cops shoot and kill granny. Turns out granny hasn't had a driving licence for years as she was blind. She was also deaf. Second amendment baby! Yeehah!
cort16
I ordered 2 very expensive part works for my BMW off eBay as both my front tyres have bulges in them. The one I ordered on Monday turned up today and the one I ordered on the 19th is MIA and the seller isn't responding. I logged a dispute with eBay but they won't step in until the 5th. I really need that friggin tyre as I want to go and visit my dad soon and don't fancy it with a balloon sticking out the side of the wheel. I should have just fitted it with 2 happy joy roads. somewhatfoolish

Stanky
I got a new phone, set it up, sorted it all out. Happy days. Mentally checked everything, yep, all good. I'll be a nice dad and give my daughter my old phone as an upgrade to her dumbphone, lets do a factory reset first shall we? Yep, all good, lets turn it off and I'll sort out setting it up another day. FFWD 2 days, oh I need to log in to paypal to transfer some money, no problem, email, password.... 2FA code FFFFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRKKKKKKKKKKKKK yes, that 2fa code that ran on google authenticator. the same one thats protecting about £8k in crypto, as well as god known what else. on my old phone. the one I factory reset. FML. So I'm now going through the rigmarole (understandably strict) of resetting about 25 websites that I set up 2FA on for various reasons. Its going to be a looong weekend of security verification for me... beko1987, GrumpiusMaximus, Remspoor and 3 others 2 1

Fumbler
Today started well* The BX's starter relay went on strike and wouldn't even click and turn the starter motor. Then some form or arbitration happened and the car started. French electrics, eh? Then the washing machine's motor decided to seize while spinning my clothes, so we have no washing machine. It tripped the RCD too which suggests something more than just a bad motor. Insurers aren't open on the Bank Holiday so we won't get a replacement machine. Luckily two friends in the village have offered use of their machines, for which we are eternally grateful. myglaren

brownnova
Bloody rain... Gathered some parts together yesterday to make a proper start on the Nova. Plan was yesterday evening to do some shuffling of the fleet, try and get the nova into the garage under its own steam and put the green 2CV and Yugo under covers on the drive before the pissing down rain of today. Of course the rain arrived 12 hours sooner than forecast meaning that now all I have is a soaked Nova and no desire to piss about under the bonnet to get it running again in the pouring rain, or to get the 2 2CVs and the Yugo soaked to get it into the garage... Tinkering aborted. 😔
Bren
Cronyism and incompetence from the government and no one cares. The top six premiership clubs move to join a super league and we have uproar - the scenes at Old Trafford were disgraceful. I did some reasearch on what the average IQ is in the UK - it is just over 100. We are about 10th in the world - China, Korea and Mongolia are higher. Stop the world - I want to get off. C1am
Hastings Direct. Paid them after changing my car, showing as debited from my bank account. Received an e-mail from them this morning stating they will take (a further) payment from my account as I haven't paid them. Spent all morning on live chat (tried to call but spent over half an hour on hold), and they demanded that I send them a screenshot of my bank account to confirm I have paid. Did this within 10 minutes of receiving a further e-mail from them, still not resolved. Have formally complained and demanded a case number which I eventually got, but still no confirmation they have cancelled the demand, merely that it is on hold, whilst they "investigate". Even if you can't manage that for whatever reason, at the very least don't cop a fucking attitude with me when I make an enquiry, as if I'm supposed to know it's sold despite your semi-literate ad giving zero indication of this fact. mitsisigma01, myglaren, Isopon and 2 others
Lankytim
I’ve decided to bring the 145 out of hibernation in the garage and swap it’s position with the Visa, which is now enjoying shelter in my nice dry* garage. With the Volvo out in the open I had a go at some reassembly. When I got the 145 many parts were in the boot, it has been partially repaired after a shunt which bent the front suspension. The PO had fitted a donor front axle but the brakes were still inside the car, armed with NOS discs I set about refitting them. Discs went on fine but the caliper bolts were extremely tight. After winding them in and out a million times with plenty of lube I thought I had it sorted. The threads looked to be correct and there was no tell tale signs of thread damage or swarf associated with similar bodgery, of course I somehow in my cackhandedness broke a bolt on each side, I think possibly because the constant twisting in and out had fatigued the metal so now I have a hardened bolt to remove on each side. The car is an early model, 1968 and the axle is from a 1972 car. I’ve already found differences in the size of the track rod ends, the 1968 ones are too small for the 1972 uprights, which could be a massive issue on it's own as I’m not sure if I can mix and match late track rod ends with early track rods. Maybe 1968 cars used imperial fixings and 1972 cars had metric? Nobody seems to know for sure. Could it be that people have allowed themselves to be brainwashed and dumbed down to the point where this sort of thing is totally acceptable? I don't know. I'm finding myself feeling increasingly cynical as I'm advancing in years. This could be a lot to do with working at a company which truly recognises the need to treat all employees with respect and dignity. I've always said how balanced and fair it is; how it supports its staff. 😇😇😇
bunglebus
I'm stressed out, can't divulge the main problem but it's fairly serious. Mostly I feel like I need to split myself into about 4 people to deal with everything and be in all the places I need to be. Passat needs locks fixing and the dashcam died today. Lupo still says it's overheating despite several thermostats, water pump and temp sensor being replaced. And I haven't fitted the exhaust. Other half needs to be driving it prior to and for her test soon. I would get on with these jobs but I'm looking after the other half's kids while she's trying to resolve our main problem. I'm in Scotland all next week and pretty busy with work for some time after. I also have to keep an eye on my mum who hasn't been well so been doing shopping and jobs for her. Can I pause life? Bren
One of the SD1's calipers is stuck. It is the 4 piston variety - one piston is solid. I was hoping to get the car MOT'd soon but looking around it this won't happen. It looks like it needs track rod ends and track control arms because the rubber has deteriorated. It is at times like this I don't think I will get the car back on the road - life just keeps getting in the way.
