The grumpy thread

Here is a generalisation: often the people who have loads of stories about how awful the police are, tend to have loads of stories about their many experiences of dealing with (*being dealt with by) the police.

I dunno. The offer of being planted with either a bent screwdriver or a bag of weed after being given a good kicking in the back of a V8 Sherpa courtesy of Merseyside's finest* makes me beg to differ. In some ways they were just getting me for something to make up for what I'd previously got away with so I shouldn't complain too much.

Shag thread gone!

..No it can't be

.........Please no

...............Too much work went into it

.....................Years of celebrity fetishes collated into a tame goldmine of loveliness and not a bare titty on show that I recall

In short I am bereft :-(

I am deeply upset about this - more than perhaps I should be - the title did say, *NSFW*, hence, 'not safe for work'. If those perusing it are not comfortable with that, then don't peruse it - just DON'T. If the occasional post crosses a line of taste, then it should be parsed, but don't condemn the whole thread because of it.

Surely it should have "grandfather rights", having been started prior to the new rules being stated in a separate thread? Otherwise every thread prior to the rules implementation must be revisited to ensure that they comply?

My poor thread!

I honestly thought it was in good taste with zero nudity. Fuck knows why it was deleted although I must say I didn't look at every post. Anyway, I really don't have the stomach for another WTC Vs the Moderators session so in the interests of forum harmony I'll leave it up to others to lobby for its return or management to explain. I think we'd rather start 2019 with us all friends.

Although if it's caused by a couple of posts going gung-ho then maybe just delete those offending pics?

When I say gung-ho I mean overstepping the mark, not the 1980s film featuring Fiat Regattas. Now that is hard core porn.

I still miss the cars and girls thread even though that did have actual fannies in it so yes i could begrudgingly understand the demise of that..

But i cannot see the issue with a thread clearly marked NSFW containing a few pictures of krusty allslop.. It wasnt that offensive IMHO i mean how hard is it to just not go on a thread if you dont approve of it?

Which is why I said generalisation and people with loads of experience tend to have loads of stories.

I don't doubt some coppers are assholes or worse. I got pulled over by one because he couldn't see the lap belts in the back of the 2cv, when I pointed them out to him he started picking on my front seat passenger because "that's who he meant actually", despite the fact she was still wearing hers too. He was a total dick about the whole thing because he obviously didn't like to be seen making a mistake.

But I'm still not sure you can write off a whole profession on the basis of one or two bad 'uns.

Especially as I live with and have kids with one that's won commendations and a national bravery award for saving a life. He doesn't care what people think of him just because he's a policeman, but I tend to get a bit touchy about it.

What I was getting at is that we keep hearing moans about never seeing the police anymore, so while we are told we'd have to be lucky to see one there seems to be a group of people who are unlucky enough to come across loads of bad ones all while minding their merry own business and behaving perfectly.

Honestly I'm not having a go at all of them, I'm just pointing out a personal experience. I'm no angel as anyone who knows me would agree and I've deserved a few of the run ins I've had.

I'm not saying you are. I don't want to deny people's bad experiences with cops either because I don't doubt they happen, but there has been some pretty bad feeling spoken about the police before on here (one poster said the only good cop is a dead cop and I think it was here that someone made a comparison to paedophiles) and naturally I don't like that kind of talk and felt compelled to defend.

I guess we all have our biases!

She said she was on the verge of a breakdown because of a nuisance neighbour. Haven't seen nor heard from her in over a week.

A few other members had expressed their concerns over the last few days. I have offered my services by PM as a shoulder to cry on if needed.

Admin, are you able to ping Joloke by email or otherwise? Please do.

Can someone report this post -just one person, and quote when done so so that admin are not barraged with reports - please, so that we can highlight our concerns? Ta.

Generally, they do a great job in difficult circumstances, not a job anyone could do. The role has my maximum respect as do those who do it well. Even when they make mistakes sometimes. Only human after all.

However, I've had a few dealings with bad cops and none of them have been because i was up to anything.

Once pulled over accused of 45 in a 30 when i was the only one doing 30 and was being overtaken by people doing nearer 50, where he threatened to get my car torn apart by vehicle inspectors to find something to do me for

Once pulled over because the Police were looking for a car matching my cars description..... The car they were looking for was a black Nissan Primera, i was driving a blue BMW...

A 4hr interview with Special Branch because the guy who bought my car was a wanted man, so clearly i was a terrorist

The time my Calibra was broken into and was basically told it was my fault for having a "flash motor".

Or maybe the time i went to my garage and was stopped outside it to be questioned by Police how i could a "flash motor" (i think it was my CRX Del Sol) and they decided to take and run all my details.

Or maybe the time my garage was broken into and has several things stolen and the forensics gave so little attention to doing their job, they missed the bent screwdriver clearly used to open the main door lock. 2ft outside the garage door and didn't even bother dusting for prints because "they always wear gloves anyway, nothing we can do".

For balance, i've had some good dealings with cops

One when i had a bump on ice in my Punto avoiding a Range Rover, several others crashed on the same spot, i just cracked a bumper, cars were crashing around us and he was just looking around my Punto because he used to have an HGT and loved them "Nothing i can really do to stop others crashing now anyway". And incidents that have happened outside my house, to be fair, the cops i've had in to get statements etc have tended to be excellent.

PCSO's however i am happy to generalise as arses. In my experience, all have been jobsworths who see it as an easy way to play Police officer with no actual ability to police, so abuse what little power they feel they have to the max and carry themselves with maximum arrogance, self righteousness and over inflated self worth, for what is effectively a job somewhere between an event steward and store security guard. (same phenomenon exists with stewards on the job).

If I'd complained to the mods about a thread and had it pulled at least I'd have the common courtesy to stick my head above the parapet and state why I'd done it in the face of pretty much universal disagreement and state my reasons rather than hide behind the moderators in anonymity. Maybe your first course of action should of been complaining on the thread itself? Reporting the particular post that offended you the most? Being a real man and taking yourself outside for a serious talk with yourself about how you think you have the moral high ground being offended about a photo of a 1979 Sally James in boots and still expecting lots of likes from those who you've pissed off? Strange as it may sound I'm actually in sympathy with our administration over this which is why I've not involved them directly, they give their time up to try and keep the forum running. I am pissed off with whoever is attempting to pull their strings to satisfy their own agenda and inadequacies. I implore the persons who complained to please show yourselves and explain what the countless members who posted on the thread did wrong.

Who'd be a moderator on here?

While I agree with the above post you've got sod all chance of whoever it is saying it was them or they would have done as you said and made a post saying what they didn't like first.

It's the problem with stuff like this. Some people can't leave shit alone, no matter what it is, and instead of forming an opinion and discussing it they act like a child telling tales.

Not sure what's more embarrassing, people being so upset they have to report a thread on the internet or the outcry over the thread being pulled.

Lads, it's a thread on a forum that's gone. Nobody has raided your life savings, nobody has went and shown your mrs a good time in the back of their Bluebird... it's a few pics no longer there, It's not life changing either way.

Whilst i fully agree that it shouldn't have been reported (how hard is it to just not click on the thread if it bothers you that much?), the reaction/outrage/accusations which have followed has been a total cringefest.

Perhaps everyone needs to locate their big boy pants, put them on and get on with it?

If I was a mod I'd chuck him to the wolves on here and say it really isn't worth my time getting static off others but needless to say that's why I'd make a shit AS moderator.

Rest assured even our admin will only tolerate so much pathetic whinging off someone before they tell them to fuck off.

It's the Internet not real life. If someone wants to start a thread called "Warren T Claim has a two inch cock and farts when he cums" the I promise I won't go running to teacher about it.

Imagine that you're part of the moderation team on a car forum.

It's just after Christmas and your kids are in bed and the mother in law has finally fucked off. At last you can have some quality time with the missus. She nips upstairs to put that secret outfit that you bought her on and seductively walks downstairs. You're already beading at the prospect of getting some and that cheeky blue pill you bought off your mate at work is doing it's job a treat when WHAM. You've got to have a four way admin chat because some whopper and perennial whinger has thrown a wobbly over a photo of Rachel Riley. What do you do? Change the thread title to delete the slang term for sex? Fuck that! The OP threw a shit fit last time and you changed the title of one of his threads and you know he'll be working and there's no way you'll get hold of him in time. Let's take the easy option and just delete the thread and hope for an easy life. Maybe nobody will notice and to be honest I've got a diamond cutter in my Y fronts and that blue pill ain't gonna last forever.

Obviously the above is a work of fiction.

I totally agree that it's starting to get a bit over moderated. I also agree that if folk don't like something then don't fuckin read it. Simple. This is my view and my opinion which hopefully I'm entitled to without being strung up for. Everything is going to hell in a handcart of late. Too many folk getting offended. Fuck sake can't folk just grow up. It's life. I am disabled and don't like some derogatory comments but I choose to carry on reading and not reporting it all the time. I've also noticed certain double standards by some. Do as I say not as I do and it is fucking stupid but it's life and folk get away with shit others get a warning for while others get drawn over the coals for saying something completely normal.

Red section: Yes that is true. The same with moderation on this forum. Don't like it vote with your feet!

Blue section: And  you are not offended by the way the forum is moderated? That post reads as if you are.

Not our moderation team obviously. I'm sure they've got no need for viagra, in fact I've heard The Moog can get more wood that a recently restored Morris Minor Traveller and Pillock's party piece is hanging four pint glasses off his pensioner's leg.

Here's a theory, bear with me on this.

I suppose I'm pretty right of centre which means that I'm happy to accept others beliefs pretty far to the left of me. Sadly it seems like anyone who's left wing, with a few exceptions, sees anyone right of them as having unacceptable beliefs and unwilling to accept them let alone debate the issues preferring to block or ban. Political grump that somehow seems relevant to recent forum events over.

Right of centre is what exactly? The centre might as well be Margaret Thatcher just now.

I can't agree with your political ideology but I enjoy your posts.

Maybe that's why political discussion is best left to other outlets.

Why cringefest? The reactions (imho) are fairly typical to a perceived tendency for serial  'I'm offended' types to manipulate a state of affairs until they get a change which validates them/suits an agenda/allows them to exert control which is lacking in other areas of their life.

The underlying theme seems to be the death by a thousand cuts of transparency and honesty. It's not the subject matter, it's the lack of information about why (complaint) and how many (tail wagging dog?)  that rankles.  Genuinely contentious subjects should be policy - but that is decided ostensibly by the majority of users - not (potentially) a small minority. For the 'girls' thread a poll or similar would have been appropriate - archiving/deleting/tightening of posting rules/etc etc rather than what appears to be a 'like it or lump it' decision based on 1,2 or how many complaints?

Although I'm obviously biased it does look like the membership has voiced it's unanimous support on bringing the thread back. Maybe rename it feminine beauty or something similar and mods can PM the whinger and tell him to man up for once in his life?

Didn't we have a grid girls thread going? What happened to that?

I was so badly treated by (some of) the cops that I made an official complaint, despite a senior officer trying to dissuade me.  That was a long time ago though, in the days when I was being regularly stopped without good reason (not in itself so bad until you add being treated like scum for no good reason).

I have also had some fabulous treatment by and experiences of some outstanding police - I even posted here about the most recent one where a motorway cop let me off a couple of things when he stopped to help me - that was flipping marvellous.  Also I cannot forget the Policeman who tried to save the life of my mate who had thrown himself under a train - there are no words for that level of bravery and commitment.  It is a thankless task that I couldn't do.

Complaints about never seeing the Police or my pet moan about zero enforcement of almost everything aren't meant to be levelled at the Police themselves (at least not by me) - that's an issue of politics and we can't discuss that on here.
