The grumpy thread

How can I put a notice up on the front door to the effect of "Please stop posting collection bags for clothes" without sounding grumpy?

I've occasionally donated, there's been once or twice that one has been timed right when I'm having a clearout but I've had 4 or 5 bags in the past week. And it's every week the same. They'd be better off having a collection for collection bags, I've got LOADS of them!

And no, they don't come back for the empty ones. I've seen them driving up the street in a van, looking out for full bags and not bothering to stop elsewhere. Oh, and it's not just clothes any more - the last one wanted console games and CDs!

most of them only give a tiny tiny percentage to charity, i just bin their bags as soon as they arrive

I find that the so-called "charity" bags (and most of them only give 0.00001% to whatever charity, if they are a charity at all) are best used to double wrap used contents of cat litter trays on their regular total empty/cleanse, i.e. strengthen the cheap shit value bin liners I buy.

In Lookers (Vauxhall dealer) the other day with junior as he was getting some wheel trims for his car. Admiring (I know, it's sad) a new Corsa VX/R outside on the lot. Then I saw the price: Just short of £20,000. Twenty-thousand-fucking-quid

And yet I've seen a handful knocking about so someone must be buying them, albeit (unsurprisingly) in small numbers. I'm not moaning because it's a new car (there are plenty of new cars I'd love to own) but £20,000 for a small* car is mental.

*Having said that I swear the new Corsa is the same size as a Mk3 and maybe Mk4 Astra.

Know what you mean, Billy. Drove past a Toyota dealer the other day, and saw USED Auris' on the front for £18k. EIGHTEEN FUCKING GRAND. SECOND HAND.

Fuck that.

Most mornings I find a pheasant or three scratching around in the back garden under the bird table. They must hop over from the fields opposite...and they are used to me now so don't fly away. Unfortunately I found one lying there dead this morning. At first I thought a cat or fox had nabbed it, but its neck wasn't all chewed off or anything and couldn't see any other signs of damage. I scooped it up on a spade and plonked it on the compost heap in the nearby churchyard. Couldn't think what else to do with it really.

I was working with this fella last year, we were all in convey to a job when he stopped, turned round and fucked off.

20 mins later he pulls up with a dead pheasant ( recent road kill) and proceeded to give the rest of us three engineers a master class in skinning it and cutting off the pheasant breast with a work knife and all from the front seat of a Transit hoist.

Bloody impressive, man.

Petty, but...

Over on RR, someone has acquired a scruffy old 'Merkin van (the stabby/ rapey type) and wants to paint an old-skool-speed-shop logo on the side. Rather than just saying "I want a picture of an old dude", we get this self-masturbatory old bollocks:

"A cross between Doc Emmet Brown from Back to the Future, Iggy Pop, Ozzy Osbourne and Jack Nicholson. He's been slaving away all his life like a mad scientist but on cars instead of human remains. He very rarely sees daylight because he's always buried deep in his workshop building a cool vehicle. He's a bit reclusive and withdrawn but at the same time, as mad as a hatter. Slightly twisted but has a great sense of humour which bursts to the surface every now and then. He's getting on a bit now but is respected as a crazy inventor/creator. He's dead cool in a totally unforced way. He just *is* cool, but with a mad glint in his eye."

Son, you're over-thinking this

He could always paint a logo of 'Brick Top' on the side and call the thing 'Nemesis'

Then chop it up and feed it to pigs...

:D

It doesn't really matter what he gets painted on his seppo van.

Within a week, someone will have keyed a massive penis onto its side.

Don't no if this he right thread to post in but makes me feel grumpy/sad/strange. Went to visit my grandma in hospital last night. Last seen her last week when she was sat up and talking. Last night she was out of it. I knew time was close. Only me and my wife there. Talked to her but no response. As I held her hand she passed away. I been a care worker for 6+ years now and surprisingly never encounted a death. Was so surreal watching her go especially as I was close to her. I never for one second thought in my line of work that the first death I would see would be family. Couldn't sleep much last night, just seen her everytime I shut my eyes.

Thing is with Bruce, he'll have that exact image in his mind that he wants, but he always likes to share that image as best he can with people, I don't think I've ever met anyone who "sees" a project through like him, take a look at his escort build thread, I spent an afternoon with him whilst he was working on the suspension, you might say he is over thinking it, but better that than not thinking at all!

I agree. I'm sorry to hear that news. Its so sad to hear things like this. When my nan had cancer, she was in a hospice, I couldn't go and see her as I was told she was going to die any minute so couldn't bring myself to see her. She looked like a skeleton, and hadn't spoken for weeks, yet when I finally went to see her, she struggled like hell and said "i love you", I cried and left, 10 minutes later my mum rang me and said she had passed away. So sad but i was so happy she was out of her misery and resting. Will never forget her. Just make sure you remember the good times

Posted

My mum passed away when I was 8. She was 32. I always wanted to see her one last time but wasn't allowed. Admittedly now I can't remember her very well but also I am glad I didn't see her in hospital cos lookin back now I'm sure the image would have stayed with me forever

Posted

Yeah sometimes I wish I didn't see my nan, as all I see is her face when she was minutes from death, but at the same time I'm glad I gave her closure and said goodbye. Death is a horrible thing.

Thanks chaps. I must admit some of things on here make me smile. Keeps me chin up I suppose

Its all you can do. Chin up. And read the banter on this site (and with banter I mean pisstaking/generalization/cuntishness/judgementalness) but that's what makes it a more interesting read than the blue forum. :D

@bub very sorry to hear your sad news, my condolences.

This place has certainly been a tonic for me in the last week.

Very sad but we will all end being taken away one way or another. I can't think of a better way than slipping away with those I love at my bedside.
