I've hit a duck, two pigeons, half a dozen pheasants, a partridge, a barn owl, two foxes (result) and a few stoats in the last couple of weeks alone - you get used to it.

Deer are getting a big problem now as well.

 

I spent the first 15 miles of my 4.30 commute with my hand on the horn - ready to go.  Birds sleeping in the road, rabbits grazing, it's a bloody nightmare. I must have honked at 25 animals this morning.  One bird strike that really couldn't be helped seemed to be a remarkably low fatality rate for this time of the year.

 

I finally get onto the A1(M) and think "Phew - glad that's over" only to see a Muntjac Deer SAT in lane 3.  Rather than ambling into the central reservation, it minced over to the hard shoulder instead.  Cue lots of brake lights and a bit of swearing.

As I've said before, political opinions are like arseholes.  I've got one - you've got one - but I have no desire to hear yours, and I'm sure you feel likewise.

I've got a question to ask our American friends on here regarding their fellow countrymen that belongs in the open forum but I'm struggling to think how it could be worded/ answered without verging on Politics. I would ask the American that I know personally in real life but there is a good chance the answer would suffer from confirmation bias if you know what I mean.

On the positive side it is keeping my brain active.

 

Oh and at least we don't have free roaming camels to worry about on the road.

I have noticed a lot of deer strikes locally over the last 3 months, not little ones either. If you do hit one please make sure it is dead - don't leave the poor buggers suffering.

I know that some others have had problems with customer service. As a job, I hate it but for the moment it's a must. The problem is, a lot of places don't really train people properly. I am finding this right now and being on the front line of customer service it really does make me nervous when dealing with certain enquiries.

 

Also, I wish some people wouldn't send certain videos for a "laugh" they really aren't funny.

Difference of interpretation I guess with missing facial gestures in text based communications that would give a clue as to missing a joke.

Last year I had the hood down on the Merc CLK with my two young kids in the back. While doing about 50 on an A road a fat pidgeon flew straight of a hedge slap bang in the middle of the grill. There was an almighty thump then it promptly slid up the bonnet and windscreen and disappeared over my head. The wife looked at me and then behind at the kids. We half expected to find the dead pidgeon nestled between the kids, however, it must have had enough momentum to at least make it on to the boot and off the other end. Poor bu**ger. Thankfully the kids were asleep and missed the whole thing.

Fords were always the worst for catching dog hair in my experience, Vauxhalls never trapped it the same.

Ford carpet is practically written off if it gets sand in it. Impossible nearly to get it out.

In the Suzuki the carpet is that baggy that if you aim a hoover at it it jumps out and catapults shite all over the bit you've just done.

 

I have had a very frustrating morning. But it probably serves me right for not hoovering Matt's car in the 3 years he's had it.

I (currently) drive a van for a living, covering an area about three times that of greater London which is entirely rural.

 

The last few mild winters have resulted in an explosion in wildlife numbers due to the huge amount of small flora and fauna now present as food.

 

Due to the rural nature of the area, once you get off the main roads (the A1 is still single carriageway up here, and you're lucky if the road you're on has a dividing line), wildlife doesn't encounter enough heavy traffic to develop 'road smarts' so tends to just run/fly across roads whenever it feels like it, or if it gets scared by the approaching loud noise whilst sitting in a hedge.

 

Sudden movements to avoid them would put myself and other road users at risk a lot of the time so I just hit them. If it is clear and safe to slow down suddenly or avoid then I do.
