The leather key ring is from Semples of Berwick (in Berwick-upon-Tweed) so a tax disc from there would be ideal, even though it's not on Castle Ramrod's door step. It is a bit odd that one, the car spent all of its life down south as far as I know so quite why it has such a northern key ring I couldn't say. vulgalour
The SPORT FLAPS can't be any newer than early 2000s, and dated even for then. The quality of them is very non-chain brand motorfactor circa 1995 so it should only take a few miles for them to look like they've been on the car for 30 years. MorrisItalSLX
My grandparents had a set of these in every car they had (now I think about it, it was probably the same set moved to the new car). I may even need to get a set for myself. mk2_craig
PhilA
It's missing a National Trust cling-stick in one of the rear windows too. I think the "Stop Thief! Not this one!" would be a little old, but you can get fairly decent reproductions of the Moss Security stickers: I remember those in the window of pretty much every car with more than a couple hundred quid, starting in the late eighties. vulgalour
Today was fun. Peter and I had been wanting to get our two Maestros together for a while and we finally had an opportunity. Micro review and a bit of a drive also happened, with new Rover friend Adam serving as camera man. The video won't be out for a while, so you'll have to be patient on that front. What a great photo. vulgalour
Ah yes, Weepuls! I'm been toying with the idea of one but hadn't made up my mind. Fancy putting one or more on the rear parcel shelf supports. I'm also going to be getting some triangular daytrip stickers for the back windows, I'm just waiting on actually going somewhere before getting those because I have this thing where I can only have a place sticker if it's a place the car has actually been. If you'd like your Weepul to live in the Maestro I'd be happy to give it a home and keep it well fed and watered, plenty of sunshine, all the good stuff. vulgalour
The MoT is due on the 1st of December and the car is not ready to go in for an MoT. The reason for this is the rear passenger arch isn't finished. I had planned to do it this weekend and I thought my MoT was later in the month until I checked today. The weather has put paid to any progress I might make, I can't very well do the welding outside when it's raining and windy and I have no indoor space I can work in. I reckon at my pace it's a 3-4 day job to finish the welding on the rear arch since I also want it to be sealed and painted. I've given the bodywork an inspection for other MoT issues and there's a couple of areas that might need a tickle with the welder, nothing serious, just edges where there's rust that might turn into pin holes when I clean it back and need a little matchbox sized patch here and there. I also know one of the rear handbrake cables has a split sheath, something I was going to replace once I'd done the welding work so I don't accidentally catch myself on sharp metal edges. I'm not sure if the sheath will fail an MoT, it's clearly been that way for a while and never been flagged on the history, but it would be nice to replace it since I've got one to go on. I'm at the mercy of the weather for now. It'll take as long as it takes to sort this out and I'll book it in for MoT once I've got there. vulgalour
Well great, the new torch has developed an intermittently sticking trigger and that has made welding today pretty much impossible. Between that and the stress of a few mess ups on my part, there's now zero chance of me being ready for the MoT in time. I'm done with this welder, I'm just buying a new one now and starting from scratch. For the curious, the sticking trigger is an odd one. The trigger itself works perfectly fine and isn't sticky at all when removed from the handle. Once in the handle, sometimes the trigger manages to get stuck sometimes leading to constant wire feed and, as a result, appalling welding. Nothing I do makes any difference to this situation. I've had the handle apart and it's spotless inside, nothing is getting hot so it's not like the plastic is deforming. I shaved the mould lines off where I could see them in case that was the issue, and it made no difference. Sometimes when it does the stuck trigger thing it unsticks itself, sometimes you have to turn the welder off and unstick the trigger manually, and it's not like there's a lot of resistance either, it's like something is catching, only I can't see anything to shave down or tweak to stop it happening. Dealing with that frustration meant my welds were very poor because sometimes you'd just have wire everywhere and because you couldn't unstick the trigger immediately, it just struck new welds where ever the wire landed. Nightmare. Added to that is that I made a couple of daft measuring errors so I've basically got to start the arch repair almost from scratch to undo the mistakes. More fool me for not checking the repair panel fit more often than I did else I would have caught the error sooner. Definitely shan't make the MoT now. I'm going to switch my attention to the Princess instead, hopefully it really is just the head gasket that needs replacing so doing that might see it back in use again. For now, the Maestro will just have to look like this for a bit. mercedade and puddlethumper
