RichardKs ramblings: The Highlander can take the low road, or high, legally!

I haven't bought it, I traded it for some stuff and I'm not entirely sure I want it, but I'm definitely curious...

It's green.
It was made in Britain in 2004.
It's got 12 months MoT.
It does about 25mpg as far as I can tell.
It has four doors.
It has leather seats.
It's got a CD player.

Observations:

Visibility is much better than I expected.
Even with 182K it feels surprisingly good and tight to drive.
Gearbox has behaved for 40 miles.
Bonnet opens the wrong way.
Boot is worryingly spacious for a Jaguar (previous Jag experience is limited).
I need a passenger mirror and they're hideously expensive on eBay.

I really would probably prefer something more 'me' like an HR-V or Volvo RWD estate, but I am liking this much more than I expected to*

*before paying for any parts, driving it any distance, or getting to the bottom of the low coolant warning.

I read that as guesses though key holed sills and thought it was appropriate for an X-type.

Nah 😆. It was thought the key hole David Frost "the clues were there" but I get what you mean.

It does look good, I've always fancied one, I'd check that front subframe as it's been an advisory on the mot for the off side.

I reckon it would roffle well if you go bored.

Looks good from here 👍

It actually does look good. Not great, but then, if it looked great it would probably be worth something.

2004 called:

"SHIT! WARN THEM ABOUT FARAGE! AND BREXIT! AND 2020! AND ED SHEERAN!"

Pick one.

"ED SHEERAN!"

It has. I have been told of this, and the other advisories that I checked before it passed the MoT (I'm still curious about the mirror, but maybe it was stable enough to be okay). Sort of thing where I wonder how much work it is to swap over a subframe after properly rust-proofing vs. repairing in situ, but none of these are relevant to me because at the very most it will sit around going nowhere far while I accept it is a cheap Jag and just mess with it.

Otherwise I will find out if anyone wants it more than I do. Probably before I've removed the warped mesh from the grille and installed slatted original style bars which I think would be right for an XJ6 at this age, and added a Leaper because I like them and I don't care if people on twitter get upset thinking about all the pedestrians I'll spear. After all, the white beast is essentially what I want to buy next year - running over pedestrians isn't part of my plan so I don't need to worry what the vehicle will do to them.

Wait a fucking minute. It's a collection of a car already in my ownership.

I know I have not posted on here for a long time, but I thought that I would share my new daily wheels...

      it’s a 2003, 53 (Facelift) S500 L (long wheel base)
just ticked over to 180,364 miles (I got it at 179,220 miles)
What a car, it is NOT greedy on fuel despite everyone telling me before I got it that it would be, it’s not.
      5.0 V8, 306bhp 7 speed Auto.
its seriously lovely, riding on the airmatic suspension.
barely above idle speed at 80mph & for it’s size, it’s seriously quick when it is needed.
Also, the silence inside is amazing, you can barely hear any noise, it’s so silent & insulated from the outside world.
Yes, I know that most people will tell me about the horrors of the W220 Mercedes-Benz S Class, but this is a good one, no rust or rot (early examples up until 2002 were notoriously bad for rot everywhere) the 2003 facelift model onwards were not as bad.
& my one is not blighted with any rot.

Here it is, after being fully valeted today.

      WAHOO!!!!!!!
Vendor of one of my all time favourite 'must haves' just rang me back after a week of waiting thinking I'd missed the boat. It's a tank, one of the residents on this very site finally nabbed one recently, although I may have hit the V8 manual jackpot!
Face it - I'm a shiter - so if it's not needing to be swept up to move it I'm buying the fekker!
Wanted to go tonight but it's a fair distance away and I'm still in the office.........

Anyone interested or wanting to guess.... knock yourselves out.

In spite of the current summer heat, we decided to drive 70 km to Augsburg and have a look at a former tramway depot recently converted to a show room for some asian cars. Started in a pair of Tagora's, but it didn't go well. Dinin Tagora decided that running on all 6 cylinders is optional, so we left him at the next exit and went on in only the silver SX. First time ever i have been sitting in the rear of a Tagora, very comfy and spacious!

Met there with a 504 friend helping us to assure the parking lot gets a decent share of "proper" cars.
