taranaki
Clocked a few miles in the last 40 years, done some mad shite in Austin 1100's and mk1 Cavaliers and still survived. This used to be a Mitsubishi Magna 3.5l station wagon. A truck coming towards me rammed the rear a Nissan Safari that was waiting to turn right at a junction . He'd already turned his wheel ready to cross, and got pushed hard into my path. Estimated combined speed in excess of 70mph. No airbags, no injuries. bunglebus
I've been pretty fortunate, worst I've done was get my 1600E Orion sideways at 50MPH and wipe out Weald Park's sign, before getting airborne and landing in the hedge. Especially lucky as there was no one coming the other way as I was broadside across the road, and that the hedge stopped me going in the pond the on other side. I only have video of the aftermath now Burnside, Amishtat, michael t and 1 other

I might however feel differently in a wallop... Incredible the difference things like airbags have made to safety. Our modern is like a sodding bouncy castle in a crash ! lesapandre
In the 87 great gale a big oak tree blew down between 2 hedges in a sunken lane in a dip in the road outside Bath at about 2am - it was right across the road at about 5 feet off the road. I hit it head on in a Fiat Uno...the car went under the tree because the whole roof was stoved in by the impact - the windscreen went and the A pillars were pushed flat onto the doors. I should be dead but I'm not because I had taken my seatbelt off before I came off the Motorway because it was so uncomfortable. I went down sideways onto the passenger seat in about the three seconds I had to brake and move sideways. I walked away - only injury I swallowed some glass. I used one of my 9 lives that night - I wd have been decapitated if I had had the belt on - it was just fate. I still wear seat belts. I was lucky. I have some 10x8 bw photos somwhere - not sure where. Some very nice policemen turned up - they were more shaken than me by the state of the car and the fact that when I came to I just climbed out unscathed. To add more spook to the scene the car engine was still running and the lights on. Funny thing life. I've also survived an intruder in the house who tried to strangle me...lol...that was very odd too. Zelandeth
60mph into the nearside front corner of the cab of a diesel tanker that failed to stop at a crossroads. Three and a half 360 degree rotations before I came to a halt. Total injury count: Scraped knuckles from where my hands hit the indicator and wiper stalks and a bruise from the seatbelt. The chassis of the tanker apparently was shaped like a banana. Peter C, Barry Cade, Amishtat and 1 other

No pics, but reminded me I did the same years ago. Me in my rubber bumper MGB and other user turned in front of me in a Toledo. Had to reverse "out" of the Toledo and had left a similar sized MG dent in the side. Very doubtful it would be repairable. Details exchanged and other driver accepted fault. I was that shook up, did not fully check my car till I got home. To my amazement only damage was some paint scuffs on the bumper. Scourer from the kitchen and no sign of damage within a minute. Loved that car.

I remember going backwards and looking at the blur out of the window behind and rather optimistically thinking "I hope I don't scratch the paint". I had a teeny weeny cut on my little finger and thats it. Lucky to not have a fence post through my face as I took loads of them out. Poor car deserved a better driver though. I was pushing on but am not sure if it was spilt diesel, wet road or a mismatch of ambition and ability. Long time ago and lesson learnt about hooning around on a damp road. I have never been without a 480 since this date though! stripped fred and sdkrc

dozeydustman
It's been posted elsewhere. My Samba in 1996, about a week after my 18th birthday. I was driving to school, brother in front seat and a lad from round the corner we gave a lift to in the back. My brother thought it would be amusing to keep sticking his hands in front of my face. Didn't get my foot on the brake quick enough and hit a road sweeper lorry at 35mph. I ended up with a broken arm and a severely bruised face (shaped like the Talbot logo on my left cheek) from the steering wheel, brother had his legs slashed by the the metal mesh parcel shelf under the dash. Lad in the back had no injuries. 2 weeks later I sneezed and some glass came out my hooter... adw1977, michael t and Lankytim 2
