1987 Sterling (USA) cassette owners manual

Greetings, fellow Shitters!  It's Autoshite's resident token Yank, again.

Allow me to take you back to the glorious year of 1987.  Ronald Reagan delivered his famous "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" speech.  The Great Southern British Storm killed 23 people in the south of England.  Dirty Dancing, Lethal Weapon, and Beverly Hills Cop II arrived in cinemas.  Rick Astley recorded "Never Gonna Give You Up".  As you can see, it was an historically significant year, indeed!

It was also the year Rover began it's latest (and ultimately last) attempt to crack the potentially lucrative North American car market.  Rover introduced it's spiffy new 800 series to America under the newly created Sterling marque.  Evidently, this was done to throw former Rover dealers in America off the scent, having been abandoned by the company just a few years earlier.  Not wanting to get sued by those dealers whom they had shafted, a new company identity was deemed to be in order.  Think of it as something like the witness protection programme, only for car makers!

Assuming you were one of the, alas, too few American buyers who plonked down your hard-earned cash for a Sterling, you received a special surprise inside the glovebox.  In addition to the usual printed owner's manual, the lucky new Sterling owner also got a special cassette tape version of the owner's manual.

And now, 33 years later, you can listen to that cassette tape!

Enjoy!
