A solution to urban blight - a car to match your house?

Hmmm. The original bit of ours dates from the early 1800s so it looks like I need a horse and cart.

Clutching at straws, the combined age of the various cars I have takes me back to that age, there or thereabouts.

The rubbish 1970s flat roof extension at the back is probably about the same age as the Datsun 1200.

Thats good. Can you kindly remodel your house to make the flat roof the focal point? Perhaps move the front door there and park the Datsun outside. This stuff is important. 😎

Our home was built in 1833 so no cars.

But I can still play in this game as in 2001 we bought new flat in London with a parking space in its own underground car park.

Before we bought the flat I had a 7 year old Mercdes 300CE, after a 14 year old Volvo 740 saloon bought for £250!

So in 2001 if I bought new, a Mercedes CLK could have been the order of the day, hold on that is what I drive now!

I live in a converted Salvation Army Hall, so it's a mixture of 1890's and 2000s architecture.

I am struggling to visualise that in automotive terms. Can you kindly live somewhere else or be homeless or something as it ruins an otherwise perfect thread.

Oh, hang on - Horse and Cart with 2000's DONK wheels on it?

Mine was built in 1986. The year the Spanish government sold state owned Seat to VAG.

So a Seat Malaga it will have to be.

Plenty of room to park a few shite cars, but see so few around here, except for in the half dozen or so fairly local scrap yards.

I rent a flat from the council built in 1969. I guess that the first tenants - these that did own cars - would have had motorcycles with sidecars, Ford Anglias, Morris Minors and Austin A30s and Minis.

The car park behind my flat only accommodates 7 or 8 cars. My 53 reg is the oldest. The newest is a 68 reg Corsa with a 65 reg BMW 1 & 17 reg Audi A1 being the poshest (in the loosest sense).

Tricky for me, here's our house in 1870, with the ivy on.

Here it is again about 1910, in the foreground on the left.

Spot the difference?

Anyway, here it is from the front around the same time.

Hardly suits having a car outside at all, does it?

Perhaps one of these

Definitely not these

My house was built c1990. Given the issues we’ve had with plumbing perhaps a Citroen BX?  But preferably a Merc 124 wagon. The closest I’ve come to matching the house year was a ‘91 Volvo 940GLE wagon. Same size and shape too.....

We have a 1970s bungalow with off road parking for one car with space to spare.

I'd like to say Citroen CX. The previous owners extended in 1989 so at that point I'd be upgrading to an XM, assuming the builders had stayed on budget.....

Our previous house wasn't in a great area (we never had any bother mind, neighbours were golden. The place just has a bit of a reputation that's IME ill deserved) - few driveways combined with some neighbours who had shall we say slightly more dubious means of income meant we had a glut of massive X5s and their ilk cluttering the place.

These were housing association semis built in the 1950s, with narrow streets. Our neighbour owned from new, and told me he used to have a BSA motorcycle as his only form of transport so I'm going to go for a D1 Bantam. At one stage the side garden was replaced by a driveway, I believe 1960s so at that point I'll trade the BSA in on a mini which wouldn't look out of place.
