How many cars do you own?

HMC

Four, '03 Seicento and '09 Panda actually running and driveable, '02 Seicento now basically a parts car for the other one, and the '90 Panda I've had since 2003 that I will definitely get round to sorting out...soon....ish...

(not including wife's Volvo)

Three which left me feeling almost naked after so long with four.

1987 Lancia Y10 just waiting whilst I build a new bodyshell around it's remains.

1991 Fiat Panda  1st car and hasn't seen the road since probably 2009.

2005 MG ZR A right triggers broom

Love a Y10  - that was my first car! The way they rot makes the Panda look like a Golf though😦

Y10's are one of the few old italian cars that genuinely scare me because of rot. And that comes from someone who likes old Landies.....

If you can see any rot on them, no matter how minor, they are very likely fucked. They seem to rot from the inside out.

Even a small cosmetic repair tends to turn into an entire new bodyshells worth of metal needing welded on.

I've accidentally ended up with 3 cars! This wasn't really deliberate, I just don't seem to be very good at moving on!

The 2cv was my first car, way back in 1994, before I could legally drive it, bought with the intention that I'd do it up, use it until I passed the test, then get something  else. But I got attached to it, and it served me well through my impoverished student years.  Eventually, I was driving it one day, when it started making considerably louder noises than usual and all was clearly not well. I called my then mechanic (I've had quite a few over the years, most of whom seem to think being paid to work on my car is doing me a huge favour) who said that the chassis had expired. I then faced selling the car for next to nothing (it was 2002, the car was basically worth scrap) or getting it fixed for £400.

So, obviously I did the most sensible thing and bought a brand new Clio! Less sensibly, I also paid for the new chassis. I knew that I'd have to keep the 2cv for some time to justify spending so much, so now I had two cars! I used them both regularly, but the 2cv gradually became the fun car and eventually retired to my parents house, where it has a garage. It still saw regular use, and indeed still does, but the Clio was superior in virtually every way (except fun) - much faster, more comfortable, more economical, more likely to complete long journeys without back pain etc.

The years rolled on, and in 2017 the Clio was fast approaching 15 years old. Still a great car, but 15 years old and 90,000 miles, so probably time to get a new car.  It had (and does) serve me well, but as a 15 year old Renault, surely it must be on borrowed time, or so people claimed. So I ordered a Dacia Sandero. But, the salesman offered an insulting amount for the Clio. I knew that it was not worth much, but it was ridiculous.  No problem, I thought, Dad wanted a runabout so he used it for a while, then my brother's motorbike was stolen, so he used the Clio, but gradually, it seemed to find it's way back to me.   So now we're up to 3! I'm very happy with the Sandero, it's a great car and does everything that I want, being basically a new version of my Clio.

So, which one do I commute in?   None, I've got a moped for that! The cars were vandalised repeatedly outside work, and I can keep the bike in the yard (on the grounds that not being told that I can't = I can!) It's old and a bit shit, but all the time that it can be repaired cheaply, I'll keep it. I can pretty much guarantee that if I get a better one, it'll get damaged, whereas this one doesn't really matter.  Weirdly, I had no real problem in getting rid of both previous mopeds (Sky and Pedward) and had no desire to keep them, although this may be connected with them both being absolutely knackered when they left me.

So, TLDR -3! and a moped.

Hi all. I’m on 3; possibly soon to be 4. I’m feeling like that’s too many right now.

So hit me up. How many owned, and how many on the key and legal?

The question is too tough!

Sending a crack team of Autoshite forensic auditors is the only way!

Pack up your kids with their note books and crayons and 2 to 3 weeks should get it done!

This time last week I had 6 cars (MGB GT, MGB Roadster, MG TF, Fiat Panda, Peugeot 206cc and my Ibiza), the motorhome and a couple of old bikes (in pieces).

Today I've only 4 cars, the Panda and the TF are now with fellow shitters) the motorhome and the bikes are still here.

It does mean there's a space on the drive. Hopefully nothing will tempt me.

Just the three in the fold for me (I'd have more if I could hide them from the Mrs!)

2013 Nissan Qashqai+2 1.6dci (The family wagon) - Owned for nearly 4 years and been fantastic

2006 Fiesta Zetec S -  The car that got me into shedding, after selling my Focus ST I needed a stop gap, luckily my cousin works in car sales and they  took a rough around the edges fezzy in as part ex so got it at a rock bottom price. After the first few days of ownership and getting used to the car's "features" I realized just how liberating shed ownership can be. It's been a daily for over 2 years now without any issues bar a lambda sensor its been a great steed. It's also got me interested in learning and doing  the work myself and spending time with my dad servicing it, replacing pads and discs, shocks etc. Recently been put into part-time service after getting the TT sorted but its always there if needed and has helped my brother the last month whilst waiting for his new motor.

SAVE_20201010_051557.jpg

2002 Audi TT 225 - After 18 months of the fez and being used to cars with a little more poke a slightly hasty impulse purchase saw me land a TT. My dad bought one new in 2002, still owns it and I have great memories of being a teenager with him blasting around which probably led to me wearing my nostalgic Audi TT tinted specs when buying this one. Very cheap, low miles but lots of owners (I'm the 12th!) meant this one was always going to be a bit "interesting". After sorting the cambelt that urgently required replacing, I had the joy of a seized caliper, an ongoing faulty dash cluster and diagnosing a boost that was all over the place. Replacing the temperature and N75 boost sensor meant I had a nice consistent boost on acceleration before heading down to Rugby for a dashboard repair (common issue on these mk1 TT's) due to my Audi TT specs on at time of purchase I failed to spot the EML light and when in for the cluster repair was given the fantastic news it had been covered with a sticker! I was gutted as when viewing I had taken my OBD reader which produced no faults. It appears it was a historic sticker as a scan with VAGCOM since hasn't produced any faults. The car is now my daily and after replacing the most budgety of budget tyres with Eagle F1's its a really decent steer despite a lot of people on the internet being so negative about them.

I know it was. It was resprayed grey including the engine bay and was later painted in hammerite. The gearbox had an extended life in Grumbleweed.

Alright Andrew 😉 Got rid of the Roland Garros Pug?

Pretty spot on. A 70s car clothed in superficial 80s clothing.

Ahhhh that Y10, constructed entirely from weld!! Yes, the Garros went the distance when I moved south - went to recommission it for the move, gave it a good old polish, looked underneath, and called the scrapper. Looked great on the back of the low loader😥 Dashed out and bought a Stilo instead for the commute at the new place.

Still got your badge here btw😉

As a footnote, in the first pic the Honda was being jump started by the 30 year old GTI. Not the other way as many would assume.

1992 Scaab 9000 2.0 CS. Bought June 2020 after being off the road for several years. Back on the road and very nice, but I barely even need one car! It's fun having options though.
