320touring Posted September 10, 2020 Author Share Posted September 10, 2020 Filled the tank on this today: 488.7 miles, 67.13L. that's a bit tight as it's a 70L tank 33.1 mpg. Not too bad. It was also deployed to haul some decking - I cut down the 4.8m lengths to 3m and 1.8m - the 3m fitted straight in with the back seat folded and the front passenger rolled down. That's a bit of a pisser as I had to open one up to trial fit.. Went back with this Let's see what occurs. I did provide the reg number so they could check it fitted. There's so much that could be improved on my car (mainly undoing previous owners repairs/improvements) that just wouldn't happen without a spares car. Ebay is ok for occasional bit's n bobs but doesn't make sense if you need lot's of wee things. Some SAAB bit's are becoming a bit rare and pricy too. Uksaab forum is pretty good for spares, couple of members usually breaking cars for parts. First step is remove the back cover on the centre console It just gets howled upward to free it off and expose the metal bar that helps retain the armrest mechanism A couple of torx and some wiggling sees that freed off With that done, you just need to pop the clips that retain the mechanism (seen here at either side) And then that's it free Installation is the reversal of removal Next up was the left rear light. Firstly, open the boot and loosen off the retaining clips on the cover panel for the light bolts: Then undo the two torx bolts Pull the light straight back towards the back of the car and undo the wiring clip Slot the new one home and so up the various fasteners At this point I nabbed the seal strips for the "walking floor" runners in the boot Ideal for stopping crap getting lodged in there Then onto the anti roll bar bush and bracket. It took over a month to get the right bush - the one needed by my car being the one for the 20mm front ARB. That should hopefully sort the clonk. With it in the air, I had a quick perusal of the underside - none too shabby bar a blow from the exhaust. i also swapped the front wheels over. Generally a wire brush and vactan session sorts things nice and easy, if left the rear suspension mounting points get fooked and it becomes more of a mission. These invariably snap off if you just undo them with a socket. If you use a Stanley knife the plastic bits can be split and removed. I started it up from cold and took it to the unit for him to pick over.. As you can see it's Proper healthy.. As such we don't feel the least bit sad about pulling bits off it, as its clearly moribund, though it doesn't smoke much once warm The DIC (really! - Direct Ignition Cassette) was removed and a sparkplug pulled to see if it was causing any issues.. As can be seen, it's running ok - not rich or owt. The panel around the oil filler cap was donated to @davehedgehog31 to replace his as this one had intact clips. @blackboilersuit removed the airbox The new jack gives good height! 320touring Posted November 27, 2020 Author Share Posted November 27, 2020 Today I did the first thing I have done on a car since about August. I fitted 2 new wipers to the Saab. I'm calling it a win. I also cleared out the third skoosher so I am able to clean the window with impunity. I used the patented @Jim Bellpin method and have stored said pin in the a pillar trim for later use. Fuel light came on. 26.6mpg.brutal I wouldn't mind the dire fuel economy, except the low pressure turbo is supposed to be the economy one. The ML did 25 mpg round the houses with an extra 700cc, an autobox, permanent 4x4 and an additional 500kg.
