sutty2006
It’s a delicious colour. Very bright and cheerful. Unlike the sea of grey, silver, white and black of today’s colours.
Marina door handles
Back in the late Nineties I decided against buying a cheap gold Manta GTE because I was fixated with the rally car white ones. I have very much changed my view since then! Gold is an excellent colour for one of these. Just a shame that Mantas now seem to be so rare now. It was always at the back of my mind that the C20xe and Omega box in my Locost would fit in a manta quite nicely. It's sold now so the temptation is gone... Presumably, if an Omega gearbox can be made to fit, could an Omega 3.2V6 be shoehorned under the bonnet too? And possibly the front and rear suspension. And subframes. And brakes. And steering gear. Actually, that's just hammering a Manta body over an Omega isn't it? mk2_craig and sutty2006

sutty2006
Not much has happened on this project. Mainly due to the car being in my unit and the landlord doesn’t want anyone up there because lockdown. But recently I was able to pick up the engine I have and bring it home to rebuild. Well, I’m not doing a full rebuild. Head and timing cover will stay put. I want to see if it runs before I start stripping it completely. This 2.0s CIH engine is early 70s, possibly from an Opel caravan or similar. I was told it’s been about a thousand years since it’s run, but it was only 50 quid so meh. I have taken the manifolds off, and apart from a bit of oil on the inlet valves (no surprise there) and the rocker cover off and the rockers look clean. It turns over pretty easy with the plugs in too. So the plan is to clean it up, replace what gaskets I can and send it in. Taken the thermostat housing off, thermotwat is brown and stuck solid. And the gaskets are shot, so a new twat and gasket is on order, along with fanimould, sump and rocker cover gaskets from Germany (which I needn’t have ordered because I found some in the shed this afternoon) ooops. so that’s all being cleaned up. while I wait for those bits, I pulled the dizzy cap off and found points. Yuk. Got an electronic dizzy in the shed of a nackered engine so I’ve put that in. Had to make a new gasket though. made from a different gasket merlin checks in occasionally and it’s in but now the struggle starts as the loom in the car is for pre electronic ignition, so I’ve either got to convert it or find a later loom. MisterH
I do love these things, always seemed a sophisticated image. My father had a white GTE hatch back in the day which was crash damaged before him, never drove right. Alas, I love the GTE hatch in white, but put off by the high prices now. sutty2006
We say that about a lot of cars. I have sold so many cars over the years minutes before they triple in value. I tend not to do it anymore. I’ve only sold some of my fleet off recently to make room for my A6. mk2_craig and JMotor

Also sourcing parts from Europe is the way forward for running GM stuff. That tea doesn't sound to bad either. I got given a bunch of Opel branded sweeties when I bought a panel from Denmark a few years ago Didn't eat any, as they were out of date 😂! sutty2006
