Good garages

Dearne Valley Garage in Scissett, West Yorks. OK with moderns and fairly conventional chod, e.g. my old 205s. Sensible with MOTs and don't charge like a wounded rhino. Shit scared of hydropneumatic Citroens. mind.

M&M Motors, Holmebridge, West Yorks. Specialists in Citroen and Peugeot, they've been great with my BX these last couple of years.

Nobody around Barrow.  I haven't been here 8 years yet and I've been let down too often to recommend anyone.

If you just want a reliable mechanic who will do a good job for a fair price David Cliffe in Kendal is your man, he won't tackle stuff like huggy but for 'normal' cars he is spot on, I've known him for 25 years and have taken dozens of cars to him for basic stuff and also more involved and I have never had an issue :)

I take my cars to Rydal Garage near York. As far as I know they used to be a Perodua dealer, but now they’ll work on anything, and nearly always have lots of interesting older stuff in for work. Super friendly and I’ve always been happy with what they charge. I’d absolutely recommend them to anyone in the area

EA Autos in Tadley, nr Reading. Maybe my car is just amazing but they've always passed its MOT and seemed reasonable enough with my endless stupid requests for work.

If you want a dodgy motorbike MOT then visit Smith's in Whitley, Reading. Thought this would be a good idea as a younger and more naive me, the tester really did read the paper for 15 minutes and give my bike a clean bill of health.

Any around the Preston Lancs area would be handy to know about.

I could recommend a guy in Preston, but I 'll wait until he's finished my jobs and ask him first.  Not sure he's looking for work.,

I'm off to Spain for a while, so be 3 or 4 weeks providing I remember.

I started using a wee local garage in Bonnybridge called Canalbank Motors.

It's a Husband, wife and son business and thus far I have found them to be absolutely spot on. My neighbour recommended them to me and others in my street use them too.

They won't tackle the more specialist jobs like the Mini timing chain which is understandable and I doubt they'd touch the 75 either but for normal jobs they have been fantastic.

Inspired by another thread I thought I'd start off a list of garages that are known to be good but fair. My 2 to start are Michael Roe of Market Weighton and Automotive Repair Company in Brough East Yorkshire

As im up that end I can add these two to the list   : VPS garage Hull

and Dry pool garage Hull.

MOTs done at either place and they're fair and cheap £40 and £30 respectively.  Common sense approach testing older classic cars, but still make sure everything is bang on!

I always use  C.A  Rush (Mill house garage) in New Buckenham Norfolk. Always accomodating, fair, doesnt do reduced MOT prices but doesn't rip off. Parking is always full of some old rammel. They love Landovers and Saabs, the place is full of them. I can even get a courtesy car for an MOT!

E.C garage in batley, but only the old asian lad...he usually has knuckle dragging apprentices, i think he just does the MOTs now...but he will give advice on how to solve a problem. He'll do old motors too, with a real gleam in his eye when mocking me for having points on a car which is older than myself, rather than getting myself a corsa on finance like everyone else. Honestly, i won't go anywhere else.

Rosefield motors in Dundee. That's where i've taken all my various shite to over the past 10-12 years for stuff i couldn't be arsed doing/needed specialist tools/MOT's.

Very, very fair, quality of work always been good and well priced.
