Afternoon everyone, I'm fairly new round here, but I have been a long time lurker. I thought I'd introduce the current fleet and show a few of the bits I've been doing.

Firstly is the newest addition, my 1987 Porsche 944.

I got it delivered during lockdown, I was quite happy with it, but the first job was to get rid of the bloody stickers! Heat gun and some cutting and polishing resulted in,

Much better!

Next up the passenger electric mirror wasn't working properly. After some research I found out a genuine Porsche mechanism was around £80, no chance, but it seems there is an Audi item that will fit with some modification, and at £11 that seemed the best idea!

As you can see the Porsche item had 4 connectors, and the Audi item only 3,but 2 on the Porsche were grounds so 1 was just taped up. Other than that the screw inserts had to be swapped from the porsche mechanism, as the audi ones are longer, and the back cover plate from the porsche mechanism had to be modified and re used.

I am currently waiting on a replacement radiator for the Porsche, as the current one isn't flowing correctly and the car is getting hot,  unfortunately it currently on back order, will hopefully have it by the 12th.

Next up is my is my 1990 W124 Mercedes 230E. I've had this car a little under a year. It was an impulse purchase as I felt it was going to sell too cheap on Ebay.

So far it's mostly been treated to general maintenance, and cleaning, it's had all new fluids, a new thermostat and housing, a new exhaust, and some general cleaning and tidying. Here are some general photos of work being done, consider them a montage.

  • 2 weeks later...

Since I sold my E39 I was I need of a new daily. Luckily a work mate stepped in and successfully sold me a slightly crash damaged and filthy Audi A3 2.0 Tdi for just £400.

Its about as dull as a car can be, it's even grey, but it good on fuel and perfect for my weekly slog to and from work!

My mate had owned the car for a year, and apart from putting in fuel and on miles he hasn't touched it. It was in desperate need of new rear brakes, which came with the car, and a bloody good clean, I didn't photograph the brake job, as it was a huge pain due to seized calipers, and I was getting very frustrated.

So have some before and after cleaning pictures, this was just a quick once over, it needs a proper scrub and detail.

I was even able to re attache the snapped glove box lid with the aid of some self tappers, I need to get to a breakers for a few bits so I may replace it!

Next job was the damaged tailgate, I found one on ebay in the correct colour for £60,so that was ordered and delivered.

The fitting was quite an involved job, and requited a lot lot of interior trim to be removed, but managed to get it done, what an improvement!

And that's where we currently stand!

I need to replace a wheel speed sensor to get rid of a pesky abs light, and I need to take off and clean the EGR valve. Then the next jobs are CV boots and 2 front tyres. Should be a good run around,

  • 5 months later...

Finally got the 80s pair back together, both totally filthy but that's winter roads!

While I'm at work time to start undoing months of neglect on the poor Mercedes, starting with addressing some of the oil leaks. Even treated the rocker cover a bath!

And a  flattering photo under the workshop lights!

But the most important job of all is keeping winter off the 944!
