My hard top has heated glass and there's also a switch on the dash. It's not connected as I bought the hard top separately. Does this mean I should have the connection somewhere under the carpet?

If you’ve got the switch on the dash, I’d say you likely have the loom, check under the carpet behind the passenger seat for a three pin connector (or 4 pin if mk2?) you might just need the cable to join that to the window. Check for a relay that lives in the boot on the ‘inside’ of the number plate panel and a tiny fuse box on the aeriel base (2x15A fuses, hrw and electric aerial)

After a bit of a struggle it was finally in. I marked all the holes up and took it out again.

I bought some proper quality bosch hss drill bits in a fancy tin. Like you'd get in a fab shop. That was about a month ago and can I fuck find them.

It looks like I'll need an angle drill to get some of the holes too as the roof/metal panel is in the way.

I've packed in now as it's stupidly hot and the sweat keeps running in my eyes and affecting my vision/making me very angry.

an angle drill would be handy but it can be done without one, just go in from a bit of an angle.

you'll need to remove those seatbelts too, and the wheel arch liners, it’s great fun* trying to hold spanners on both ends of the bolts through the chassis :) have a fun day tomorrow - it’ll all be worth it

All the bolts accessible from the top have been fitted along with the seat belts. The roll bar is also bolted through them.

Next stage is rear jack up, support and wheels off.

I'll have to pack up now though. Eldest daughters boyfriends 21st today and we have to go to there's for the afternoon. Deep joy.

Seats back in, birthday card bought, wallet money raided and a day trip to Newburn/Throckley.

Partner reckons we can be in daughters and out again in 20 mins flat. Hopefully before his family arrives. My sister will be there too. I can't fuckin' stand her.

The roll bar is all finished. I just need an hour or two to put it all back together. Not now though. Now is beer time.

Minus point. The noise is still there.

Plus point. The back box is rattling like feck so it could be that.

Minus point. I need a cat back system.

Plus point. I own a clean mk1 mx-5.

when you refit the seatbelt trim panels, you’ll need to chop a section off to slide between the roll bar and the seatbelt tower - should be easy enough with a dremmel type tool - or if you can’t be arsed, just swap them with the ones on mine that are ready cut

Any mx5 lickers out there looking to smarten up their front end lighting ?

2 x Crystal clear headlights, 2 x clear sidelight / indicator units, 2 x (mildly grubby) reflectors and a single side repeater (the other one went on an adventure and hasn't come back :( )

the sidelight units are US spec with twin filament orange bulbs, glow dim orange with sidelights on and flash bright orange when indicating. Or fit the modern, stylish* switchback led bulbs, bright white as a side light but the white goes out and they flash orange to indicate, cheesey but quite smart at the same time. Needs a relay mod but I have one to swap.

the headlights are a good upgrade on the standard lenses, bung in some decent bulbs and night driving is no longer a hazardous activity in the mx5 , I ran them with yellow tinted bulbs which were shit but looked good

the sidelights are (as far as I know) not MOT compliant but I just put my old ones in on test day

£50 for the lot, shiters price
