Worst place in the UK for finding decent shite

Wales is rubbish.

I think it partly depends where... there’s a steady stream of chod available up north, lots for spotting and a few for buying. Both 9000s, the 900 and the Yugo were all North Wales based, and in the last couple of weeks my watch list has had two Citroen GSAs and a diesel Maestro on it all in North Wales!

That said, a lot of the good stuff is over the border...

But we all know the capital of prime chod... Cannock!!

Wales is rubbish. Which is why my collection capers inevitably involve a long train journey into England. Here, folk either do the new-car-on-credit thing, or run cars until they are utterly ruined and entirely undesirable. Even to me.

what are you talking about!

at least 5 DHSS Model 70's one Private Model 70, a Model 67 and an Electric Tippen Delta where all found in wales :)

and there is at least 1 More Model 70 (or Model 67, all I can see is the roof IIRC!) buried in a bush in Pembrokeshire LOL

(sadly I dont think anyone ended up unearthing that one, so its on the "hit list" to go looking for when I get REV on the road)

Sounds like there’s a gap in the market here. Start buying cheep shite down south and sell it all to the northerners who are clearly in need of cheep shiters. Theshadow should be selling his stock left right and centre up there!

That is one of my plans (that will probably never happen) train to London, see parents, buy some interesting chod, smoke around in it for a few weeks and sell in Aberdeenshire for massive profits.

When I was a student, one of my house mates was from London. We compared prices on interesting cars in the North West auto trader and the London and South East Auto trader and found out approx 15% difference.  We never did anything about it.

I could have been Mike Brewer before Mike Brewer was Mike Brewer.

Yorkshire is the worst by miles! I always have to travel a long way south to get decent shite deals. More often than not older cars up here in Yorkshire are only sold once the owner has had every penny's worth out of it. Leeds and Wakefield are the local hotspots for the worst dregs of cheap auction cars being retailed off and are often really crap. Not even shite, just crap. Cleckheaton is the worst. Usually plenty more interesting stuff more towards Manchester.

Whenever I want to depress @Supernaut and @17-Coffees I load up Autotrader and tell them how many sub-£1k shitters I can reach within an hour's drive of my house (60 miles or so). I tend to get bored before I've browsed 20 pages...a similar search using one of their postcodes returns a single page of results.

As you and other's have said, this part of the UK is bad for finding good shite. Be it for buying or just spotting! Most cars from the 90's that arnt 'Ze Germans'  honestly are in short supply and I find myself getting giddy when I see a Mk1 Focus!

On the flip side, great for spotting sports, super and hyper cars! When I used to help out at local Supercar meets it was an eye opener for how much money there is round these parts, To mention a few there is at least 2 Enzo's, 2 or 3 918's and the same amount of P1's. Not to mention a Porsche 911 GT1! I know one owner who'd give alot of Sheik's a run for there money car collection wise.

What?? Aberdeenshire is BRILLIANT for autoshite. All of these are within 10min walking distance of my girlfriends house in Culter(bar the 2 moss covered oxfords, but they are only 5 miles away)

I see loads of autoshite up here, you're not looking hard enough :)

I had one of these 22 years ago, when it was only 7-8 years old - Usual Lotus Bitsa (i.e Mk2 Astra front calipers / glovebox lock and McLaren F1 windscreen) - Hood in mine leaked like a sieve when it was comparatively young, so I can imagine some decent footwell puddles in this one.

Having lived in NW London from 2009 -> 2013, it's probably the place I've seen the most old rammel parked in the streets (e.g. Vauxhall Belmont / Saab 900 / Nissan Cherry all lived near my Queens Park gaff)

Ah, so that explains all those grim Cleckheaton eBay listings.  Giving Cannock a run for its money.

You could be Mike Brewer now.

Just get fat, make insulting offers on cars and never, NEVER pay your mechanic.

if that 735 is the one I think it is, it’s in bad way.

It was owned from nearly new until about 3-4 years ago by a farmer from Turra and it had suffered the usual farm maintenance.

Some wannabe Mike Brewer type bought it and had it transported to the local BMW specialist where I saw it. I told the chap who owns the place that I liked the 70s look of the car. He gave me a withering look, reeled off a list of things wrong with it and walked over to it and opened the door...

I could smell it from 15 feet away.

Wannabe Brewer eventually had it trailered away.

And Keighley.

Strangely, I worked at a small Lucas controls factory in Keighley for a couple of years, commuting from Long Preston every day.

I couldn't sell a decent mk2 cavalier in either the North West Auto trader or the Yorkshire edition.  People woukd phone up and after a conversation about the car woukd ask for directions. And then make excuses about the distance.  I sold it to a bloke down the road because I put a for sale sign in the window.

Cleckheaton trade cars is the absolute epitomy of a bombsite car pitch.

Went there once to look at a 318tds.

Gave me the keys to have a look, it wouldn't start.

Brought over the lorry battery and jump lead based jump start apparatus. Cranked the poor thing over for absolutely ages before it fired up with a massive cloud of clag. Like 5-10 min of continuous cranking, I almost gave up and wandered off about 3 times before they got it started.

Sent me off for a test drive, unaccompanied with no questions asked about licence or insurance.

It drove kinda OK except the left rear feeling like it was missing a shock absorber. And many lights on the dash, could have been from the jump start abuse, could have been genuine maladies.

There were asking £795 which was pretty strong money for a fucked E36 at the time and would not budge a penny on the price, so that was that.

Have since been back once when desperate which just confirmed that their business model is to hoover up all the stuff that gets no other bids at BCA Brighouse, spend £0 on any sort of prep or repairs and list it for decent money, attempting to cover their arse with a SPEARS OR REAPERS TRADE ONLY M8 invoice.
