I reckon your yearning for whitewalls is an excellent excuse to buy a Kia Pride. Or to be Dutch!

Lovely Vauxhall, though! Please keep the old duffer VIN plate - it'd look great attached to the front of a folder about your car, a la HMC's Vanden Plas.

Lovely car.

When I had a Chevrolet I found the GM Heritage Centre very comprehensive on getting some info on the VIN code and other stuff. Not sure how they cover Vauxhall.

But is worth a look  and maybe mailing them - GM really seem to value their past in the US.

Given Vauxhall belongs to PSA these days you might not get an answer; Vauxhall's own heritage centre is a better bet.

So I made the decision what tyres to buy...

Yep, I gave in and bought a set of normal ones! I spent a couple of days painting the wheels and nipped over yesterday and had 3 tyres fitted for £130. They look perfectly fine too.

I've also repainted the bonnet latch back to silver, and the radiator panel from silver to black like they should be and fitted the correct lubrication plate and a new stamped up vin.

Then today I took it for its first proper drive to Felixstowe with my oldest daughter , its bloody lovely to drive! Sit's happily at 60mph and the stainless exhaust sounds like a little fart cannon! It got lots of compliments too which was nice.

Wow that’s looking even better. Great job on the wheels and the new chassis plate - to my untrained eyes it looks great!

I was thinking about the number plates and actually pressed plates were very popular at the time (my dads FB still had its original pressed ones) and the ones you’ve got are really convincing. They are the correct 3 1/2” characters, correct font and border. Really nice and I don’t know where they came from but I haven’t managed to find any as good as that. Most repro ones, as you know, look shit.

As for raised digit plates the Ace peak plates look amazing and they’re very period for an FB but at around £200 a pair they’re not cheap, but would set it off magnificently. Tippers Gothic look pretty close to Bluemels too but POA so I’d guess a similar price. I’d you’re not prepared to spend that sort of money,  I’d just repaint that front one and stick with what you’ve got, as whatever you get will probably look less authentic!

Just in case your struggling to sleep...

Awesome managed to catch it yesterday because I is subbed yay, and I enjoyed it very much keep up the good work :)

the crackling noises etc is because something keeps covering up/bumping into the microphone

I assume your filming it on a phone? id check that you don't accidently have a finger or a case over one of the microphone holes :)

I think that's exactly what the problem was, old numbnuts here had his phone the wrong way wrong and my hand over the mic, it's all a learning curve!

I think the dent is too bad for a dent man Mark, it's like a gouge that someone's tried knocking out before.

Hi all, we haven't really used this much with pissing COVID but have done a few little jobs here and there on it

Fitted the rear seat belts so I can get my girls in it and had a couple of patches fitted under the rear seat.

IMG_20201014_164759.thumb.jpg.9a7bef9688cb07176e83e59402aa1b7a.jpg

Botched the scabby rear arch.

IMG_20200904_194110.thumb.jpg.1b2087a509b895c53f7bfeb4bcffa5c1.jpg

Repaired that crease in the front wing, this came out well considering but the paint match wasn't the best, still it's not bad for a rattle can.

And I splashed out on a set of new number plates from Tippers which cost a small fortune considering its just two pieces of tin painted gloss black with some plastic digits clipped on but I think they look better than the bent and wonky old plates.

Jobs still to do is the rear pinion seal on the diff as its leaking a fair bit and I think the timing needs looking at as the performance is a little flat and loses power on hills although it is a 60 year old 1508cc car so that might be normal?

Blimey it's been ages since I posted anything about this one!.

Well i didn't use it much over winter, managed to rebuild the brakes as the wheel cylinders had all popped and leaked over the shoes, then replaced the rear axle pinion seal in that time, I done a few miles pottering about though.

then took it to a drive it day show in Kersey Mill here in Suffolk

On the way back from the show Mrs Trigger was having a right mare with the gearbox, kept getting 2nd and reverse muddled up until stopping in the middle of the road, it was this point i thought, fuck it, it can go!.

I wasn't really enjoying it, 2nd gear was too low, 3rd gear was too high so it was forever changing up and down when ever there was a slight incline and the suspension was very tired, the car wandered all over the road and steering box was worn out, i got a mot on it.

the first since 2017 which it passed straight though and sold straight away for £3500 to a older gentleman in town.

It was a case of looking pretty but rubbish to drive in my opinion but the new owners happy with it which is the main thing, I'm probably a bit young for it if I'm honest, That does now mean i have some money for a new toy but everything is soooo bloody expensive and overpriced at the moment so it could be a while!
