I really like these, a lot nicer looking car than the mk 3 that followed in my opinion anyway.

Would like a clean 2 door one sometime, but since you hardly see any around anymore I think it might be a tough challenge.

I have to say, Compared to the shit i had to choose from when i past my test in 1997, most of the Fiestas/Corsa/Micra etc I've seen scrapped so far seem criminal, I would of loved anything like these as a first car, and young drivers these days seem to be losing on that option now as well.

Yeah but their parents buy them a new car instead. On finance \ drug money \ with the slush fund \ proceeds of their gran who definitely didn't cark all of a sudden because of a sudden carbon monoxide overdose.Like my mate's 18 year old sister. She was bought a brand new 1.2 litre Clio.Within an hour she'd run it up the curly wurly in Tesco's and damaged it to the tune of £1300.I bought my mum's mint Ka 3 when I was 17 and then spent two years wrecking the poor thing. Car park dings, scuffs, that sort of thing. Spun it twice going to college as well.

If my mam had been in a position to buy me a brand new car when I was 17, I just know she would have said no, you have to work for it like I did. Why don't parents do that now?

Well said Fred....Its how I got my first car.....worked for it and almost every one since 8)

When I passed my test aged 17 I asked my parents for a car and they told me to piss off. I had to save up and I bought my my first car aged 19... a 1978 Allegro. My parents are frigging loaded, too. Wankers. Still, it was a great introduction to a world of autoshite.

When I were a lad...It's true though - kids in the main are brought up these days on a want it, get it basis be it trainers, PS3s or even a first car. I went on the bus and train till I could afford to buy my own car then only had 400 quid saved up to to spend (including a hundred from my parents which technically I still owe them after 15 years....)That's a couple of months finance these days  The other trouble is that a 1996 povvo Fiesta is NOT KOOL M8 AND YOU IZ WELL PIKEY LOOK AT ME IN MY BOSS NEW CORSA

Hey hey hey! I bought my Ka off my mum, okay?

Okay, it was at 'family discount', but I still bought it.

My next car, the 306 of OMG turbo diesel, was bought off my aunt at book price.

The C4 was old car + savings + finance 'deal'. Arrrgh. They gave me pretty much what I paid for the 306 though - £1200. It had about 200k on it, the head gasket was going and the NS driveshaft was shot to fook.

I think at the time my aunt wanted £1350 for it. Better than the £50 Evans Halshaw offered me in trade in on a Focus TDCi anyway. Even pre scrappage Citroen had some pretty good trade in deals.

However, had I been buying with scrappage in place, I think I would have kept the 306, just to piss my dad off. I would have paid a mate to sort the problems out.

My parents never gave me a bean towards my first car, though i think they may of paid for my first driving lesson as a 17th birthday present.I had to work my nuts of to save up the £500 to buy my first Vauxhall Nova, It may of been brown but i was dead chuffed with it.I often see some spotty twat racing around near me in a pinky red 09 reg Fiesta Titanium that you just know he's parents bought him, I see him hoovering outside the secondary school at kicking out time trying to impress the girls in his pink Fiesta.

FFS shouldn't kids grow out of that not having the coolest trainers thing when they leave school!? Grow up and stand on your own two feet.

i can remeber my best friend was the first to have a sinclair zx spectrum, £100 trainers, new motorbike, car bought and paid for all by his parents but then he was also first to have a kid at 18 first to split up with his wife, first to have his car repo'd and now runs an old corsa and rents a flat  it certainly didnt teach him anything and all these modern kids with brand new cars i wonder how many off them may go the same way.

Chuffing nora, I thought I got hard done by!In 1995 when I turned 17, I was gifted a car by my parents. OK, it was an 11 year old Skoda Estelle, and it only happened because my grandfather had bought my father a new Favorit as what turned out to be a last gesture as he died of cancer the following year. Comparable to my sixth-form buddies, I might have well have caught the bus, as they all got brand-new Golfs etc, but not only did I learn how to change an HG in an afternnon, but it also taught me an important lesson about the importance of family.

I think most people in my college class bought their own cars, but from looking round the college car park, its safe to say most people my age are given cars.Me however, I have to buy my own, and i probably wont be able to spend over £500, but hey ho, im not fussed, i want something shite. Id much rather have something ive bought.

Just spotted this posted on a Ford Owners Club Forum, It was posted in June but i couldn't believe the response for the 'Ford Car' enthusiast...

Hello everyone. Being a girl (and a modern Ford owner) I'm not really too sure the best way to go about this so I need some advice. My grandad is 85 and we are trying to persuade him to the merits of giving up his Ford Escort in favour of a car with some power steering etc to make his life easier. It's proving tricky, but never mind. Anyway, we'd like the car to go to a good home. It's a Y reg silver Escort Ghia (August 1982) with about 107000 miles on the clock. I don't want to get in trouble for advertising, and this isn't an advert. I would just like to know the best way to sell it and a rough price of what to expect. It's in good nick - my grandad has had it from new and it's serviced, taxed and MOT'd. We'd just like it go to someone who would appreciate it! I hope someone can help me anyway. Thanks for your time.

Then the first reply was this

at the moment if your grandad can afford to do it, would be to look at the currant scrappage sceam which would get you £2000 of discount on a new car. you could have a brand new car on the drive way for as little as £4500 outlay. with the currant market the car is only worth a few hundred in the private sale sector
