Earliest registered BX in the UK is an import, registered before Aug 83 (so it's now on a Y reg) Citroen held off registering any BXs until 01/08/83, so they'd all be on an A plate.

I've sometimes wondered if our beige 14RE could be the oldest RHD car still around? A-reg, declared manufactured 1984, but not registered until 7/3/86.

This magnificently tatty old thing is mine:

BX 19RD estate owners.jpg

It was owned by about half the forum in quick succession (see the Rogue's Gallery above!) and I've had it for the past four years.

bitcit.jpg

It's been at the garage for a month because Coronavirus, but it'll be back soon, bearing a shiny new MOT.

This one is only partly mine; it was a forum rescue. Hipster twats were going to cut the roof off and make it into a giant planter until a whip-round was held...

IMG_20190526_195335.jpg

Current status: creeping towards an MOT, albeit with a bad case of the misfires that still hasn't been chased down. I have a newly-rebuilt carb here waiting for lockdown to end so it can be re-fitted.

EPN is a lovely-looking BX. Always liked that one!

VVW is one I've been trying to learn more about. If memory serves, it was due to be binned wasn't it? There was a fella on Facebook who acquired it, but he didn't seem to get much done with it, and then it disappeared. I've actually got a seat of four brown mk1 doorcards here (off a car which is pictured further down the thread, oddly enough) which I was going to donate to it many years ago - I still have them, and the offer still stands.

I think VVW may have been exported and then re-imported early in its life (or had a private plate), because its registration date is 30/12/1984 (which would be a B reg), and 07/03/1986! Unless VVW is a private reg itself...

I don't suppose you have a paint code and RP no. for either of those? Inner nearside wing on both, though EPN's RP number might be in the nearside front doorshut on the A-pillar.

Well done though, two brilliant cars there! Is there a resto thread on VVW? It might still have the bearing front subframe fitted, if you're lucky!

The actual deal was done by a forum member who isn't around anymore, but I understand that it was offered for sale on Facebook when mention of it being cut up for a piece of street art or similar was objected to. £500 was thrown into the hat to save it, and a further couple of hundred quid to pay for some of the work it needed. It would be a bit grand to call it a resto thread, but you can see what's happened with the car since it arrived here.

Most of the doorcards are missing or U/S, so your kind offer would be gratefully received, thank you :)

The car is currently at @djimbob's gaff; I will be speaking to him later today and ask him to take a look!

J926 GFV 1.6 TGS Athena. With trailblazer! Bought from a superficially lovely bloke on the BX forum, but on later deep dive into his internet history found that he'd investigate and somehow deduced the car was clocked... but didn't tell me! I disagreed anyway. Superb looker but broke down a lot. Eventually sold (to someone on here I think?) after suffering catastrophic hydraulic system failure. We pushed the car down the road a bit and he put £50 in the AA man's pocket to tow him home.

K179 RLN TXD 1.9 I think. Doom blue. Bought from a shady but more honest chap again from the BX forum. Didn't have for long, took it kayaking in Scotland where it dropped the exhaust on the motorway. Remarkably managed to get another shipped to Fort William in 24 hours but not after asphyxiating all of my friends.

K573 JUA TZD turbo estate, also doom blue. Bought within an hour of finding it on gumtree (walked to the seller's house via a cashpoint!). Utter lemon - produced a lot of iron oxide and carbon monoxide.

Only pic on my phone...

The one in New Zealand definitely counts (all BXs do). The VIN and RP/ORGA are more imported on these, though, as otherwise I have no way of dating it.

carjam.co.nz for all your NZ Car VIN number finding needs :)

for example

https://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=11scw

also may as well quote this over from the wedgister :)

BTW heres a collection of reg checker websites I use in conjunction with my special one (ie to double check something or when I want to quickly look something up without spending credits on my special tool)

https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

https://www.cardatachecks.co.uk/carcheck/lookup.php

https://www.carlogbook.co.uk/

https://totalcarcheck.co.uk/

https://cazana.com/uk

https://www.vehiclecheck.co.uk (NB I noticed this one uses the same database or possibly backend that my special tool uses, so while it does not provide as much info my tool does it may pull up some more stubborn vehicles that don't show up elsewhere still)

https://www.motorcheck.ie/

hopefully these are of use (and on some of them like cardatachecks you can root around in the web page source and pull up extra info like Keeper counts and number plate changes, although the number plate change record from cardatachecks is not always accurate)

You probably have  a record of this one already.

30945578225_de199e2384_c.jpg1990 Citroen BX14 RE. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

I owned it for about 6 months (remember when I owned cars for actual amounts of time), had it serviced, new cambelt, waterpump etc, replaced the collapsed drivers seat for it to burn out it's ignition whilst on the A4. Sold it very cheaply to a guy near Reading, and it then reappeared in the same state about six months ago. It had had tons of welding done to it before I got it but a lot of other areas were immensely rusty, not least the boot floor and rear bumper mounts.

I also got this

33507235082_b2c63b990a_c.jpgImpulse buy...again. by Sam Osbon, on Flickr

This had done huge mileage when it was new, but then was sold on from that owner to someone in Purley, Croydon. They used it for 17 years as a DIY car, he seemed quite pleased telling me how much scaffold and concrete he had loaded it with. As you can see, the rear arm bearings were quite shot, and it was reasonably hard riding. It failed an MOT at a specialist who made up a few of the fail points, so I swapped it for an AX. Again, I think it reappears every so often.

I also had a TD of some kind, bought off of the BX page which was 'a good one but needing work'. Turns out it was an utter rotter which puked LHM all over the place, as well as coolant. Scrapped and cut up by @dean36014 Forgot the reg as it was so annoying.

I would love another but don't have the skill or budget to do them justice, so I stay away now. That 14RE was the exact car I needed as an antidote to the shit stuff I went through at that time, in an ideal world I would have kept it but there we go.

J926 GFV - bought from Bob Craske in Anglesey summer 2012, sold a year later to a BX enthusiast in the West Country. I remember reading his posts on a forum, he took good care of it and tried to restore it to its original spec as best he could and rectify its mechanical issues.

K179 RLN - bought from a BX enthusiast in Northampton, can't remember who I sold it to. Bought it in early 2013, only had it for a few months

K573 JUA - bought from a student who just saw it as a shit car in Reading, sold it to a family in Micheldever who also just wanted a shit car. Both late 2013, only had it for a few months

Here's the Green Bastard, otherwise known as J191 KBK, a TZD Turbo Hurricane. Utterly shagged on purchase, slowly being rehabilitated with regular injections of new parts and money, seems reluctant to work if it can avoid it. Fundamentally it's a good car but has been owned by idiots for a large portion of its life.

At this rate it may actually be on the road again soon.

My folks ran BX’s for most of the 90’s. A Mk1 C848OAN, a Delage red 19RD. My Dad bought it in about ‘88. He traded it in around ‘94 for H487DRV a 19TGD in Venetian red. I learnt to drive in that car. It was sold on around 2004 with over 250,000 million miles on it. I don’t think it lasted much after that. I was thinking that’s good car nerd stuff remembering all that, but knowing the trim level of the car your parents had when you were 8 is probably not at all unique on here.

Hi Tom, sorry I've not been back on here for a while!

I didn't have that 14, but do now, cheers. Shame, it looks great. K930 PHR I do have, though I doubt it'll be around much longer, personally.

Managed to find the ORGAs on both. The 14 was 4585, which is one of the earliest digital ORGAs I've got (Citroen didn't digitally record them until May 1989, from what I've learned so far).

Hi Ian, H489 TAH is a weird one, because on entering the VIN into Servicebox, it throws back an ORGA of 6291, which corresponds to a date in 1994. That's some achievement, given that it was registered a couple of years beforehand! And it's not the only one; there are a few oddball estates with details on Citroen's own site that don't make sense. Possibly a VIN cockup their end! I don't suppose you ever recorded the RP/ORGA number, or took a random picture of the N/S/F door shut?!

Sorry, didn't spot this thread for a bit. I may well have some pics, but not here. I'll try to remember to collect my other hard drives at the unit, as they have my picture archive on them. It definitely was on the road in 1991, with Cowie Interleasing. I managed to compile a complete service history for it!

That's the one! It's recorded as being 6281, for some reason. 5078 is much more likely!

Can see why it didn't last much longer, though. Yikes!
