BX saddos assemble!

Hi all,

For a number of reasons (most of them centring around the fact I'm a sad bastard), I have taken on the challenge of creating a register for the Citroen BX. It's backed up by the Citroen Car Club (so it's not a weird personal information gathering session for me!)

In terms of details, I'm going into geek overload. I love a spreadsheet, and can therefore tell you that the average number of days that passed between a BX being built at the factory in Rennes, and the day it was registered in the UK, is 150 (though that does include a car that sat around for four years, between 1992 and 1996 doing sweet FA, but given the number of cars I've got, I'm opting to leave it in). So yeah, you can see how tragic this has already become!

I'm wondering if any of you good folk have any records of any BX you've had/done unspeakable things on/in/around/to. I can search by registration or VIN as a minimum.

So yeah, complete no strings attached request for your BX memories/knowledge/history etc....basically anything you can bestow upon me!

Many thanks

Chris ( Docco) still has a couple ( and two or three in the spares heap against the wall in the Barn)

Mine were:

51623577_1112202235634679_7102941082182221824_o.thumb.jpg.63faf1d24920b538afc9f2291225168e.jpg

Vera the 1.7 TZD Turbo - scrapped due to terminal rot and electrical problems after persevering with it for about 6 months.

1.9 TXD - sold on and went "off the road" within a matter of weeks - I suspect the buyer broke it for spares as there was nothing wrong with it at all.

52594414_1112207435634159_5041903666877956096_o.thumb.jpg.f9fbcf7492bd82f9f18b5a8025039134.jpg

1.7 TGD - the worlds slowest BX - NO pas., no sunroof and surprisingly no rust. Still on the road today with its current owner.

I did have the Ex Bernie TZD with retrofitted air con  - sold to Dave Rutherford IIRC Not got any photos to hand so cant check the reg, pretty sure it was on a J plate.

I think that's the one I got off Dave. If it is, then it's never going on the road again, sadly, knowing the chap I sold it to it'll never get done.

Here are 3/4 of my others, but only one any good for your records. TPC was broken by the next owner I think, but I recently found out its twin survives and is really local to me (2nd pic). The one not pictured was K550 SKE, broken for parts by next owner. Blue Mk1 no longer mine and is still broken and not registered (and has a front bumper I bought off you fitted). Gold Mk1 still unregistered but I can send the VIN if you really want

I also owned this for a while- a 16 Tgs Estate which was far too nice for me (fear of scratching it, children spilling stuff in it, etc)  and IIRC was known in CCC circles as a former owner was a bit of a collector. There was stuff in the history about a dispute regarding the ownership of the car which read like a soap opera; all resolved at the time apparently. Current whereabouts after @holbeck not known to me. I don’t have any pictures of mine, F846LPH, a 1988 BX 14RE hatch in light metallic blue.

I owned it from about 1992 to 1994, whereupon I gave it to my sister after her 1980 Honda Accord hatchback dissolved. She hated it with a passion and killed it with fire.  Sorry.

I've had many, most of which are dead.

This one is dead.

As already mentioned, this one is dead, but served several of us well.

I think this one is dead. I sold it with 305,000 miles on the clock, but then saw it again at the NEC one year.

My old Mk1 BX still lives, albeit off the road, with Mike Sims. It was my steed of choice for the very first Shitefest in 2012.

Went through ACA, think it went for £1000ish.

I really really pined for it.

This magnificently tatty old thing is mine:

BX 19RD estate owners.jpg

It was owned by about half the forum in quick succession (see the Rogue's Gallery above!) and I've had it for the past four years.

bitcit.jpg

It's been at the garage for a month because Coronavirus, but it'll be back soon, bearing a shiny new MOT.

This one is only partly mine; it was a forum rescue. Hipster twats were going to cut the roof off and make it into a giant planter until a whip-round was held...

P1180602.JPG

IMG_20190526_195335.jpg

Current status: creeping towards an MOT, albeit with a bad case of the misfires that still hasn't been chased down. I have a newly-rebuilt carb here waiting for lockdown to end so it can be re-fitted.

@barrett - I think it probably is - it was going crusty in the rear door shuts when I had it. Had a central arm rest too - i'll have a hunt through the HDD as its not in my "cars" folder - however some M0AR BX's....

I had totally forgotten about this shed - cost me £50 on eBay...

I didnt have it long - Vanny bought it off me and then flipped it for £200.

He had a Morello Cherry one before this but that was broken and many of the bits went into the one above, Vera and the red TXD.

Some random ones from my days in the BX Club...

Catsinthewelder is looking distressingly well-groomed in that photo.

My first BX was an H-reg 16TGS hatch in maroon with a rattly engine.  That was about 20 years ago.  Then much later I had a navy blue L-reg 19TXD estate with over 200K on the clock - that was a great runner and a surprisingly good tow car, but it was quite rotten and didn't live long after my ownership.

J926 GFV 1.6 TGS Athena. With trailblazer! Bought from a superficially lovely bloke on the BX forum, but on later deep dive into his internet history found that he'd investigate and somehow deduced the car was clocked... but didn't tell me! I disagreed anyway. Superb looker but broke down a lot. Eventually sold (to someone on here I think?) after suffering catastrophic hydraulic system failure. We pushed the car down the road a bit and he put £50 in the AA man's pocket to tow him home.

K179 RLN TXD 1.9 I think. Doom blue. Bought from a shady but more honest chap again from the BX forum. Didn't have for long, took it kayaking in Scotland where it dropped the exhaust on the motorway. Remarkably managed to get another shipped to Fort William in 24 hours but not after asphyxiating all of my friends.

K573 JUA TZD turbo estate, also doom blue. Bought within an hour of finding it on gumtree (walked to the seller's house via a cashpoint!). Utter lemon - produced a lot of iron oxide and carbon monoxide.

Only pic on my phone...

Thanks (Marty - that's you isn't it?) The 17TGD was on there already, but I've added your other two so that their names may live on forevermoreth.

Put Chris' on ages ago. He was really happy that his bastardised red one (I don't even know what it identifies as now) was the earliest car I had on record that had an entry on Citroen's service-box system! I haven't broken it to him that it no longer is...

I don't have that one, either! You're Scott, right? I think you came down and bought something BX-related related off me once. Was it a mk1 bumper?

So J347 YCG does still exist, it's just unlikely to ever hit the road again?

I record all BXs mate - I've got left hookers too. VIN, paint code and RP/ORGA are what I really need (I can date it by RP rather than reg).

Earliest registered BX in the UK is an import, registered before Aug 83 (so it's now on a Y reg) Citroen held off registering any BXs until 01/08/83, so they'd all be on an A plate.

That one's alive and well. I write the BX column in the CCC mag every month now, and I'm pretty sure that car was one of the first pieces of member-input I received, as the fella documented his preparations to take it to FOTU. I think he won something there, too. Certainly is a tidy one.

Hi Ian, H489 TAH is a weird one, because on entering the VIN into Servicebox, it throws back an ORGA of 6291, which corresponds to a date in 1994. That's some achievement, given that it was registered a couple of years beforehand! And it's not the only one; there are a few oddball estates with details on Citroen's own site that don't make sense. Possibly a VIN cockup their end! I don't suppose you ever recorded the RP/ORGA number, or took a random picture of the N/S/F door shut?!

SKE I've got, thanks. L533 KSC is indeed, dead. The front subframe fractured and the owner took it as a sign that it needed to retire. I've actually got that subframe here, as he donated it to my 16TRS recomissioning (and it has literally split in half! Only held together by the bottom skin.)

EPN and Timex I've got (though don't have paint codes or ORGAs on either). Unsurprisingly, Timex is the earliest diesel estate still known to survive.

The one in New Zealand definitely counts (all BXs do). The VIN and RP/ORGA are more imported on these, though, as otherwise I have no way of dating it.

Thanks
