Bollox... I've done it again (warning k11 content)

I’ve never owned one or even been in one.  I did go on a factory tour to Sunderland in about 2000 ‘ish’.

I still remember the tour guy when we got to the ‘end of line’ test area “If you like your cars, you might want to look away” as the Chap dips one in the rollers and ‘rags it’ up through the gears and back down again.

I always though they were kind of cute and a bit ‘old skool mini esque’ in styling.   Then they replaced it with that fekkin eyesore of an Automotive frog.

This si model is the facelift version of the super s. It's got 4 speaker stereo with 2 tweeters on the a pillars, electric windows and power steering, slide and tilt sunroof, alloys, boot spoiler and the distinctive front fogs. Only 75 bhp... with the 1275cc engine, but believe me they're surprisingly brisk. This is my third 1.3... having had 2x 1.0 before that...

Cool. I fitted the 4 speaker set with 2 tweeters on the a-pillars to my Mum's K11, unfortunately only 1 tweeter is connected as the drivers connector is awol.

The 'Si' model also has a wrap around boot spoiler. Some of them have a normal top spoiler and of course other lower-spec models don't.

Looks ace that, always wanted another k11 but have always bough k10s instead. Really easy to do mods on and work on as well. I was never a fan of the door bump strips though. Didn't know they came in this model thought it was just the twister that has that style. If you don't mind me asking how much was it?

That's a great find, 1.3 K11s go very well, and the Si is a nice spec to have.

I had 3 K11s in total; A white pre facelift 1.0 base which got the pukka Nissan bodykit from the dealer. I then lowered it 30mm and put on a set of 15" rims. Then came a facelift 1.3 Si like the one above, which also got lowered with rims. Last one was a bit special, the 1.3 Mystique which was based on the SE (the 5 door version of the Si). These came with every option for a Micra at the time, ABS, RCL, leccy windows, sunroof, front fogs, special Clarion radio/CD and came with a special purple/bronze/gold flip paint job. This got lowered and 15" rims fitted again...

Your looks fab, I'd love to have a go in a 1.3 K11 again, as mentioned they have a willing engine and weigh bugger all. I surprised a few unsuspecting hotter hatch drivers with mine!

I used to love mine YP52VHR a black 1 litre. Had it from 06 to 08 and about 23k to 55k. It was brilliant. Looks like it's no longer alive and and a very hard life after me. Wish I'd not checked the MOT website.

I had a great after market sound system. It used to look well on almera gti alloys.

Apologies to Faker for photobombing the thread but I got all nostalgic with this thread and dig out some pics of my previous K11s,

My first one, basic 1.0 'Shape', (radio cassette and 5 speed box but keep fit windows, no central locking and no rear wash/wipe), dealer fitted bodykit and lowered on 30mm Jamex springs with 15" TSW Hockenheim alloys,

And it's replacement, early 1.3 Si, (I had the first facelift K11 on the road in Middlesbrough according to the salesman...), the Si didn't get power steering, sunroof or front fogs at that time. Lowered on 30mm Swift Motorsport springs and 15" Team Dynamic alloys,

I’ve have had a couple of 1 litres, Both 3 door. The 95 I think I preferred and had steel wheels with centre caps, and utterly basic spec. I didn’t reallise the later ones (97on?) had slightly larger wheels with full wheel covers, as mine did, plus a few other little differences a like the lights etc that someone who knows could maybe fill in. Have there been 2 facelifts?

The later one (around 2000 iirc)  a blue metallic “inspiration” had a sunroof; not a sort of dealer fit type in the skin of the roof that does exist but  a sort where it’s part of the roof pressing and that had started rotting nastily around and within the panel seams of the aperture/ recess. The only other issue was part of the gear selector had partly seized in one plane of movement so a bit of stripping and lubricating soon fixed that.

I then went a bit mad and fitted some wider minilite replica alloys. For me that ruined the feel of it- I like these best with skinny tyres that you can hear and feel losing grip at fairly modest speeds as you chuck it round a corner, with plenty of body roll. Brilliant fun. Yes I drive them like a twat.

Id have another but I’m used to buying them at £3-500 and it’s more common to see the remaining ones at £500-1200+ these days.

Yes there have, there were 3 versions of K11, the headlights and grille nostrils being the main identifiers,

Early ('93), small headlights, narrow grilles.

Nissan_Micra_(K11)_front.jpg.8b566432fbef1e0b52e8951fb97f7428.jpg

1st facelift ('98), larger headlights, large chrome rimmed grilles, restyled dash, different bumpers and rubbing strips,

images.jpeg.8177e9d7f42e4ded8f3cd41fd1eb64de.jpeg

2nd facelift, ('00), grilles larger still, large grey insert in bumpers, different side rubbing strips again, slightly restyled interior, 1.3 replaced by 1.4

nissan-micra-k11-2.thumb.jpg.42b5235d6dad10922c610db976dd58da.jpg

Wheels were all 13" on early cars, 13" for 1.0 cars and 14" for 1.3s with 1st facelift, 14" for all with 2nd facelift.

The 1 litre is obviously slow on paper but I dunno, if you go from a 1 litre K11 to a recent 1 litre car of any kind, you'd be surprised by how brisk the Micra feels. Yeah, they're still wheezy up top, what do you expect, but down low they really do move quite well. It's always a shock going from my 1 litre K11 to my considerably higher powered, but still slower feeling, 1 litre modern.

Car looks great though. Si spec looks really good in silver.

I love K11s, I'm on my third. As a town car there's not much comes close, they're a full size smaller than most current 'superminis' and because they're light and have quite peppy engines never underestimate one up to 40mph. I never lose a traffic light Grand Prix in mine, and it's only the 1 litre. A 1.3 must feel like a Lamborghini compared with a modern 1200Kg Clio or similar.
This was #2. As basic as they come, no equipment whatsoever. Not even a clock.

has it got air con and if so how many mph does it knock off top speed?

I rented a K11 in Zante many years ago, there were four of us in it and we had to turn the air con off whilst going up the crazy step hills on the island in first gear. Still could have been worse, lots of people rented scooters and found they couldn’t manage the hills, so you’d see them struggling in the heat pushing them up the hills.

Do the si cars have different suspension set ups? This thing definitely feels more planted in the bends... without the usual wallowing about!

Perhaps so, however I do know that my car was the second model year to have mandatory fitted anti-roll bars and driver's airbag. Any car made before 1996 (minor facelift year) had those as paid for options!

Ah yes but I see you have an aerial so I presume the radio and rear wiper is fitted? There's one down the road from me that has neither wiper or radio, only the rear demister. I must take a photo of it one day.

I suspect they all had an aerial and at least a wiring harness for a radio. It did have a radio/CD player but it was an aftermarket one.

No rear wiper, bare metal on the doors and C pillars, no clock, no trip meter, no fag lighter (had to wire the dashcam into the fusebox), no internal adjustment on the passenger door mirror, no passenger door pocket,, windy up windows and no c/l, and the thing that annoyed me most of all living in the perma-drizzle of Glasgow, no intermittent wiper setting.

Even by the standards of a cheap mid 90s car it was pretty bare, although it did have a twin cam 16v engine and 5 speed gearbox, something that was missing from a few of its rivals at the time.

NISSAN Micra 5 Doors 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 ...I know some didn't even come with a blank for the aerial to remind you of what little you purchased. My parents' Tropic didn't even come with an adjustable steering column.
