Shandylegs
Always liked this. The best colour imo - but then again I’m a bit biased (mine just having a bit of a spruce up after some kind soul key’d it down the whole side). Robson3022
Robson3022
So the Volvo has had a huff because I’ve been tidying and using the mini so much! Fired it up today and after about 30 seconds it cut out and was running a little rough. Fired it up again and held the throttle a little and it seemed to clear. We’ve had a shed load of rain and it hasn’t moved so I’m hoping it’s just that. Thought I best give it some love! First job is to paint the headlight washer covers. Apparently these are prone to disappearing. Fortunately there were a set in the car. The only issue is they’re gold..... I have no idea what I’m doing but for my first foray into painting I don’t suppose I can do much damage. Keyed with some 600 wet and dry. Improvise, adapt, overcome. A borked seat cable from the Vectra and some washer pipe from the Bini S as hangers. First coat of primer on Goldendoodle normally inspects my work. Today it was the spiders shift a couple of coats later I put some base colour on but there’s obviously an issue with one of them. Probably a grimy finger mark. I used some 1500 wet and dry after the primer. Is that the right thing to do? Should I sand between base coats and between each coat of lacquer? See what happens tomorrow and I’ll be trying to rescue the fuel filler cap. paulplom

Robson3022
Mid headlight wet sand. Not scared if I get it wrong as it came with a set of spare head lights. Beginning Middle end haven’t used my machine polisher for about 5 years (as much as I’ve threatened to!!) forgot how heavy it was. It’s done some work and seems to be pretty robust. I’m sure there are lighter fancier ones available now. Improvement is massive but I’ve still got lots of scratches. Do we reckon it’s just more work with finer wet and dry? Started with 600 and worked up to 1500?? Polished on a medium speed with my softest pad and a medium compound? Any shitters with better suggestions? Shandylegs
It will be one of two things: scratches caused by going from too coarse to too fine sandpaper, or; you not going coarse enough and haven’t removed marks in the headlights that were there to start with? In terms of painting, you wouldn’t believe the amount of times it goes wrong for professionals. They are just better at knowing what to do to recover the situation! paulplom and Robson3022

Do we think 600 grit is coarse enough? I kept going until I couldn’t feel anything under the paper? Painting appears to have gone ok. Colour match isn’t amazing but I imagine fresh paint as oppose to 16 year old paint isn’t going to be great. Will see when I’ve polished the rest of the car. paulplom
Robson3022
Looks much better with its specs back on! Colour match is absolutely perfect as to be expected..... Robson3022
Soooo The drive is empty...... Soon to have 2 shitters cars in place. But what could they be? I seem to have become the unofficial autoshite bike rescuer allowing them to leave the fold and onto better lives. Less wollarding, pez shots and poo counts!! That’s the Civic, Bini S and Volvo T5 of many shitters gone from Autoshite I’d agreed to buy the T5 and a day or so after I collected it the Cooper S came up for sale. I bought them both because lockdown is boring. The plan was to drive them both for a bit and decide which one to keep. The mini was an absolute blast and I found myself jumping in it whenever I needed to go anywhere. However I then remembered I’m 33 with a dog, child and am an outdoor instructor so the practicalities of it were a bit useless. It was an absolute hoot to drive though, even if I did feel like I’d been kicked all over every time I got out of it! So I sold it on taking the Merc in p/x, which is going to a shitter in exchange for a fine piece of automotive engineering and not for something boring at all. That left the T5 which I was more than happy with. I’d tinkered and tidied it and was considering having the wheels re done when something popped up on here that would be perfect for my needs! So the Volvo also left to fold last night. A bit of a shame, turned out to be a pretty rare car in manual form so I was told. So 2 vehicles arriving in the next week or so. Place bets now!!!!!! spartacus and paulplom

Robson3022
Just got home in this. A few issues it was not as described there was no mention in the advert of the fully functioning parrot Bluetooth kit Or the factory fitted landline I was told it would do 50mpg anywhere. This was a lie it did 59.8 Finally it did not come with a Labrador as labelled This is such a good car. Really really pleased with it. Drives brilliantly and was certainly undersold. I love it. Would definitely buy chod from Burnley again!!!! I even payed 3p less than I thought! paulplom, Coprolalia, Flat4 and 5 others 6

Robson3022
What’s better than 1 Astra?????? 2 Astra’s So I was offered this cheap cheap on account it has 180,000 miles. It’s got a bill for a full rebuild in 2018. It came to me and I moved it around yesterday. I was topping the water up and it wouldn’t start afterwards. The fuse box lid is missing so I may have spilled a little on there. I know it’s been stood a while so I tried charging the battery to be sure it wasn’t that, it helped in that the radio comes on now but no ignition lights or anything else does and it won’t even try to start? As I’m trying my best to start working on my own cars what do I check next? Could there be an issue with the key? Or should I just call in the cavalry? Anyway here is said beast. Agila
I'd probably be checking all fuses and going through them all. Starting on the main likely suspects. Anything relating to ECU etc. bangernomics
