Scrap prices - Nose dived

Well it is only to be expected and was not even certain they would still be open.

Always use "remove my car" for scrap and got rid of three cars just before everything really set in/lockdown etc. Looks like I was lucky.

Each car got £200 (or a few quid either side), but currently showing as £78.......... for an equivelent car.

Only looked as was thinking about making a cheeky offer on something and always use scrap price as a starting level.

This is the lowest I've ever seen it.

(Obviously this is just the online price, would actually be surprised if they were doing pick ups when it came to booking)

Some of them are still working, but would guess shipping is up the wall so maybe people are stock piling in the hope of better days to come. If the good times take ages to reappear, scrap will probably be almost worthless.

Cars are now at £30 per ton or where on Thursday, heavy is down to £50 per ton.

Not be long before we have to pay to get them taken away.

Bad news for many, but I got some cracking cars for nowt the last time that happened. It was win win for the owner and myself.

Really doesn't feel like very long ago that it cost a minimum of £50 each to get a car taken away to me!  Or is that just a sign that I'm getting old?

It's been a few years.

I used to be tontops on here so went through a selection of unwanted crap so long as it was under a hundred quid.

N reg Astra estate 180000 miles £100

J reg AxGt burnt wiring loom £100

N reg Rover 115 no mot £50

N reg Rover 620t undiagnosed HGF £100

J reg Sierra Azure engine fubar £100

Then all the really cheap crap dried up and I bought something half decent.

They might not be coming around due to the lockdown. I have a couple of old house rads I want rid of but haven’t heard the tat man in weeks.

We took the opportunity to clear out the garage and told our local scrapman to pop by. Says he's not allowed, but someone might call by in the middle of the night if we leave the drive clear :)

Presumably the value of scrap will go back up as soon as all of this shite is over.

Bet it'll be a while though, sadly.

Better send them some Toyota Corona’s

It might go back to the good old days when you would find cars with plates and Vin tags removed dumped on the side of the road  or just outside the scrappy as an ideal source of spares.

Im hoping it goes back 30 odd years then I might  find a Mk1 Escort or Capri dumped in the woods when I take the dog for a walk if walking  hasn’t been banned by then.

This downgrading of prices may apply to the whole 'classic' car world. Who would be a flipper in this climate...

My best mate in Wellington NZ is a scrappie pick a part worker..he feels his livelihood his threatened.

My best mate in Wellington NZ is a single pair of hands classic car restorer and flipper..he feels his livelihood is threatened.

This useless creative wanker had dreams of importing classics to Europe..he feels his livelihood is threatened.

Anybody wanna buy a scrapyard in New Zealand? Each share is a 2 x 40ft container. Its located on a UNESCO heritage  river estuary..Whanganui River. When we re not pushing useless cars around..smoking dope..we re fishing.

Look at photographs closely and spot a small white car.
