. Hence why I don't get involved in posting pictures of cars too much, on here a 2013 Toyota GT 86 is not what people want to see.

Make a thread in the "Modern" section, I'd certainly like to see pictures of your GT86. I thought seriously about one (or a Scooby BRZ) until I found they didn't have a hatch and my bike wouldn't fit in the boot. I got a Volvo C30 T5 instead https://autoshite.com/topic/33874-my-t5-not-scene/

Meanwhile as as I can't find any more old family pics at the moment, have one more of a 1275gt posing with Mrs Concern on holiday at a German Camp site around 1983...

Note the clip on yellow headlamp converters originally bought for a Mini 1000...

Edit, just noticed the blue and white duffle bag, we still have it haha

Here's (a more youthful and far thinner) me with the 1986 Sunny wagon we had when we lived in NZ. Best £250 I ever spent.

mr1977.thumb.png.c38bdc1bf83cb1016117b516befc3141.png

EDIT: at the same Ellerslie Racecourse car sale day that I bought this, Our Lass stopped me from buying a '75 120Y wagon, in bright orange with its original gaudy chrome wheeltrims, for not much more money than I paid for this. As unremittingly lovely as it looked, I think events proved her right in the end.

EDIT x 2: I've still got those Crag Hoppers trousers!

A few from around dads old garages.

The pic of the bike was my dad on a LeJoG in the mid 50s. The pub still exists.

The Silver Shadow was Dad's present to himself. He'd always said he'd have a Rolls before he was 40, bought this with a week to go! I've tried to trace it but it vanished off the DVLA records a long time ago and RREC don't think it still exists. I know the chassis number, but that's not much use in trying to find it.

The old car is an 1928 Austin Clifton.

The Morris Minor was from 1953 and had 5500 miles on the clock in 1983 when he entered it in the Woodvale show. I've still got the trophy it won. Don't know if it still exists, last V5 issued in 97 and when dad had it it had never had an MOT (took it to Woodvale on Trade Plates)

I've got the trophy it won somewhere.

Yay, it's Gumdrop!!

Exactly.

That photo was taken May 1969, a couple of years after Gumdrop was published.

Dad bought some properly random stuff around that time. Ancient Rolls Royces, fire engines and stuff.

Here are a few more from the 60s and 70s. The XK was a restoration Dad did in his spare time.

BW1.thumb.jpg.52e74e8127fb34c856eda2842ca8788f.jpg

DAT 602 was the Morris 8 that my mum learned to drive in, circa 1939.

BW2.thumb.jpg.8ad5c4822cb80ec5ff565642afc12982.jpg

And here is my mum, in the middle, having come through the war where she met my dad.  The van is his, 1949-ish.  I think the chap next to my mum is my Uncle Vincent, my dad's youngest brother; no idea who the other woman is.

BW3.thumb.jpg.065ed2bc424858091f01124ffae4aa13.jpg

Ahhh, camping...

BW4.thumb.jpg.bbca909222cfd9626e7056b809c2ef67.jpg

RAF 563 was my dad's Austin Devon van-conversion, mid-50s.  That's him in the middle of the pic but again, the rest are strangers.

BW7.jpg.a1d49d25c34f8b7fc7048918b28f6ae8.jpg

These three MUST be from the summer of 1959, because that must be me in my dad's arms.  In the August they moved into a house of their own (which this one wasn't) and they still lived there when they died in 2004 and 5.  I don't remember this Morris Minor at all, and strangely I never heard any stories of it.

BW8.thumb.jpg.3753eb43137fc782c23898aa581bfa73.jpg

This is my dad again, posing with a van I knew nothing about; it's likely this was one of his jobs when he returned to Dublin after the war.

BW9.thumb.jpg.0788195286ded5e78111e68d20ec5677.jpg

Now I do remember some of these; all except the 300E van in fact.  The Oxford was my grandad's (Papa).  The Anglia was my Uncle Paddy's, and my dad borrowed it whenever we went over there, which amounted to 1964 and 68.  The Mini belonged to one of his unmarried sisters (3, plus one who was married) but I couldn't tell you which.  Thinking about it, it could even have been Paddy's wife's car.

BW10.thumb.jpg.a5eddd4f8fa920f294acfe72dbaa4d8b.jpg

This one is dated 1963, and the van is XWM 234, only the second vehicle I can remember us owning.

BW12.thumb.jpg.6ae8d0b239ec5d1ef35484cde0d2181c.jpg

Fast-forward a bit and we are in 1986; my dad posing with his Viva HC.  It had a towbar (I remember him buying the bar!) and towed that Thompson Mini Glen that you see behind him.

BW13.thumb.jpg.e95d09177c61719b8e4aa9be00aff810.jpg

2003 now, and we were about to move across town (Southport).  The fleet consisted of my 1980 Buick, 1988 MG Maestro and 1997 Hyundai Lantra estate, which was hers, bought to replace her beloved Proton which was written off at the end of our street.  That's not rust: it's a stain on the print.

BW14.thumb.jpg.76a60dcf1b3fe58166c2287f80199cd1.jpg

My parents' house, soon after they died.  The Plymouth Gran Fury was my consolation purchase off ebay, but wasn't one of my better investments.

BW15.thumb.jpg.e0ed6502f12e8ff90594ef0c59d52749.jpg

2008, and this is the house we moved into after the pic with the Hyundai.  These are my 1991 Chevy Lumina and 1962 Cadillac Sedan deVille.  That was easily the prettiest car I've ever owned, including my 123E Anglia and my PA Velox.  MrsR would look out of the bedroom window in case I was taking it to work; she liked to watch it twist with the torque of the 390-inch V8.

Well there you are: 70 years covered in a few photos.

Oh I have!  I found a couple parked up behind a village restaurant when we lived in Cyprus - a restaurant we would visit often - and when I started going to the Lakeland Motor Museum and surrounding shows, there was one among the regular attenders.  The engine is offset to the left...

some more photos,  one is of my great uncle sat on his old motorbike circa 1950s.  another is of my dads old mk3 capri circa 1990s, which I now currently have sat in a council garage awaiting restoration and the other four photos are of my grandfathers old 1925 crossley which he owned in the late 1950s/early 1960s whilst living in London.  The last photo is of the crossley on my grandfathers driveway in the mid 90s, the owner at the time had tracked my grnadfather down and got in contact with him, sadly when the owner came to vist my grandparents were on holiday so he took this photo of the car on their drive and posted it back to them.  The owner of the crossley sadly passed away the other year but the car now belongs to his son and is known amongst the crossley owners club.

Great idea for a thread. When all of this virus lockdown carry on is over and done with I must travel home and take a look through some old family photo albums for suitable content. As it happens though, I recently came across this photo of a great granduncle of my mother. There is nothing particularly special or noteworthy about the car or the photo, but I had no real reason to post it until now. Quality is rubbish, its from a pamphlet that I scanned and tried to enlarge.

The man behind the wheel was born in 1892 and lived til 1985. Photo was taken in 1924 and the car is a Willys Overland Whippet, that lasted until the War.

I wonder how many survivors remain? Honestly never seen one!

The building is Belcamp College in north County Dublin.

It was sold for €100m fifteen years ago, and has only deteriorated since.

What an absolute waste.  I guess the owner prefers to let it collapse and then redevelop the site with soulless modern boxes to make some serious bucks.

Great to see some Irish registrations among these excellent photos; thanks for sharing.

Also, Freynes are still in business at the very same location as they would have been when the middle photo was taken.

My dad was the eldest son of a Dublin farmer.  Good news about Freynes, thank you!  I wonder if they keep a heritage fleet at all?

I would say that they would love to see that photo at least, their shop retains a delightful old-world look to it so my guess is that they have some interest in their heritage at least.

I come from a Dublin farming family too funnily enough. I'm guessing (given the Clondalkin connection) your father is a southsider - we're only poor northsiders.
