The Meteor engine was derived from the Merlin aero engine, originally built from out-of spec and recovered aero engine parts. Jerzy Woking
Must have bought a new camera or film as I've 3 photos taken on the same day, sometime in 1986 or 1987. My FJ1000, dad and my mate standing by my sisters Cavalier 1.6L. Dads Escort van is on next doors drive. FJ again, with neighbours Mini and tour van (he was in a band at that time). FJ once more with my 244 (against the rules for a biker to own a Volvo back then). The Volvo (AEV 110X) no longer on DVLA database. The FJ last taxed in 1993 but still on database (B69 CMF), sold in 1988 warch, Spiny Norman, strangeangel and 17 others

Asimo
I'd have this Ami Super back in a flash. The bonnet ornament will soon be 40! I've always liked the bumper-less look. The headlight surrounds should be chrome, but a can of a Vauxhall colour fixed that. Replaced by a company Cavalier 1.6L. Which in turn was replaced by a red Citroen. NorfolkNWeigh
1992, my Grandmother’s house near Abergavenny, this XR3i was MrsN’s for a while, but I think by this stage my Dad was its owner , he eventually sold it to some oiks and I saw it ( or its plates) as a very convincing RS1600i replica* Right down to opening quarter windows , etc... The Cavalier was my company car at the time, an SRi and was a seriously quick way to cover ground. I had a 2.0 Gli before this and the difference seemed massive considering the only real difference was lower gearing and 10 bhp. adw1977, Stevebrookman, BorniteIdentity and 13 others 15

Tadhg Tiogar
I'm sure there are photos of the ones my parents owned, but they're all scattered across different albums and I can't be arsed at the moment. For the record, they had: XYV 281H - Mk.2 Cortina 1600E, the subject of numerous attempts to steal it TMC 371M - Mk.3 Cortina 1600L Decor, ex-Met Police unmarked car BYF 912T - VW Golf "N", subsequently sold to a friend who took it to Ireland, where it ran for a good many years (I don't think it was ever re-registered on Irish plates) XKH 386X - VW Jetta "C" F39 PLR - VW Jetta GL K131 DNV - VW Vento GL JeeExEll

Vin
I've got a few of these sort of pictures, but I have only got two to hand that have been scanned... December 1986, christmas at my Aunt's. My Uncle died that summer, so for a period we did lots of things with her, or at her house... The photo is of my two younger sisters, but out there on the drive is my Dad's Rover SD1 - a 2 litre... And then a few years later in October 1989, my sisters again, on a caravan site in Rothbury... My Dad's Rover SD1 Van den Plas, a 2.6 is parked alongside (C431 GAG). The caravan was a 1976 Elddis Cyclone... He had a Volvo 240 GLT saloon between the two Rovers, and then repaced the Van den Plas with a Volvo 760 GLT estate... Stevebrookman
All the photos are up my mothers so will have a look when I can get out. First car I remember father having was a green Hillman Minx -think it was DYO 359C Replaced it with a blue Cortina mk2 1300 WMY 713G ? I was about 10 I think-1975? Bought a caravan and used to tow it with this-went ok -surprisingly! Then a damask red Wolseley Six auto-OHJ 917M a bit better for tugging the caravan-I as 14/15?-1978/9ish Then i got to 17 and had to learn to drive so father bought an M reg 1300 Allegro in that turdy green colour. NHB something-was ok. 1982 Passed test, father got rid of Wolseley and allegro and replaced it with RTG 260R a Strato silver 3.0L Granada bought from his works for £500-5/6 years old. After the Allegro and Wolseley it was like driving a bloody rocket. Also had spot lamps on the front so I looked a bit like Jack Regan. Kept this for 4 or 5 years and I bought a 2.0GL Cortina SMS 519X-in I think 1986- only needed one car in family so father sold Granada. Hated the Cortina and it was written off outside our house-bought it back and brother had it. Then bought a 2.8 Granada Ghia -PWD 484W which I think I shared with the old man-1987 ish?. Gave it to brother who promptly blew up the engine-it was a bit of a shed. I replaced this with a 3 year old mk 3 2.8i Ghia Granada C391 TLK-3 years old-I had money then! 1989 Old man then bought a Sierra DRF 426Y I think-very heavy on juice-would not do more than 25mpg. He than had a heart bypass, got rid of the Sierra and briefly bought A Chevette auto for £200 from a local garage-found out the engine was knackered and took it back and returned with a Mk fiesta 1100 A176 TEW?? About 1998. He then bought a 2.0GLXi Auto Sierra -K958RJF in 2000 from his Sister whose husband had died. Still have the Sierra after the old man died in 2004. Ill dig photos out for the rest after the present issue!! JeeExEll, FakeConcern, Sudsprint and 2 others
auntiemaryscanary
Me and Dads 1st Land Rover on a camp site, Fenny Bentley, 1979- under the bonnet was bright yellow as ex-council. Hideous thing that was very unreliable. Used to have paraffin lamps under it in winter so it stood half a chance of starting so dad could get to the dairy to get out on the milk float. One year we got about 2 miles from the North Wales campsite we should have been having our summer hols and the clutch went. Took nearly 24 hours by AA Relay to get home - I remember having endless hours in Stoke waiting for the now dead Landie to be swapped onto the next AAs region wagon to continue home strangeangel, warch, Spiny Norman and 5 others

Andyrew
Some old shite fron mother and father Andyrew. Featuring a smaller chubby me, now I'm just taller and chubby. Up first we have a cav, with my dad and sister at the wheel. The cav was swapped for my dad's army badge collection when my sister was on her way. He hated the car and usually left the keys in it with the door slightly open in the hope it would be stolen but never was. The wing was mostly red oxide and filler. It had replaced a moggy that after hitting a pothole the front suspension had collapsed. I appeared in 87 and the cav was given away a few years after as the wings had rotted through. , I believe it was then painted Matt black. With the cav gone a new sophisticated car was required enter this beige beauty with me at the wheel. Already By this point in its life the radio and heater didn't work. The windscreen delaminating also My dad had cleaned the seats and whilst drying them with mum's hairdryer the phone rang. He dashed in and when he returned, found one melted front seat. The car was crashed into the side of a lorry at some point when father rew had a mental breakdown, then it became my mums car when dad got a new car in 95. It was later rear ended by a vitara which was the end of it with us as it was written off. It and my grandads old car were scrapped together. I believe at the time we had to pay to get them taken away. Probably around 1997. This was grandads old car, scrapped due to not being able to get a indicator lens for an MOT!! So what was dad's new car? The first brand new car he ever bought. A Felicia estate, one of the first estate, so early it had the COMBI badge. Was kept for 10 years, done 30k and was then px to the value of £250. During that 10 years mother rew had numerous favorits crashed into and then her current Felicia when my grandad gave up driving. around the late 90s im guessing my dad bought This, and this where my love of the dyane started. Bought for 350 quid from a local doctor. It was pretty rotten even then. More patches than dyane to be honest. Sadly scrapped in the early 2000s I think, brake problems and serious rot. NorfolkNWeigh
This was the first car I ever licensed as a cab, so would have been summer of 1994. It was an 89 2.0i Ghia manual , Pinto engine and should have had unpainted bumpers and 14” steels. I had a head on with 2 pissed Frenchmen in a Renault 6 at 3am somewhere in the middle of France. We were trying to save on Tolls by driving through the night, I’d stopped to read the map then pulled onto the wrong side of the road, I’d done about 5 miles when I met the R6 ! No injuries but the Renault was fucked, they didn’t want the Gendarmes and neither did I , I pulled the n/s wing out enough to drive. The next thing to come along was a pair of massive logging trucks, that made me think... We managed the holiday with lots of tape , cable ties and a MK1 Sierra headlamp from a scrappy. Reported a hit and run to my insurance when we got home, all sorted. Never heated a dicky bird from Pierre and Jean Paul. iainrcz
Depends how old you are I suppose. Also, if you have sold it, it becomes your old car? That's what I meant, old as in ex.I'm yet to grow the balls to buy something actually properly old. Hence why I don't get involved in posting pictures of cars too much, on here a 2013 Toyota GT 86 is not what people want to see. My first two cars were late 80s so would be classed as oldish now. Though given they were made by Ford and FIAT they no longer exist. PS the wheel trims, they were better than the Peugeot ones.I think Stevie Wonder had been parking it. PPS, I'm 40 this year. So old myself. Sent from my VFD 710 using Tapatalk
wuvvum
This is our family Astra estate parked up somewhere in France in the summer of 1989. This was the last summer we had that car - it was replaced shortly thereafter with an E-reg Renault 21 Savanna 7-seater. Those are my brothers stood by the car - I think the photo was taken by me, judging by the height of the camera. Good car that Astra was - 1.6 so went well, although it was a 4-speed so droned a bit on the motorway. Still felt like a Rolls Royce after the T-plate Renault 6 it replaced. adw1977, Austat, Sudsprint and 8 others
NorfolkNWeigh
My first Fiat Ulyssee, pictured here at MK carnival 1999, my kids school float was “Millennium Bugs”remember that!? The Fiat was a 1-9 JTD EL, which was top of the range, but no aircon. Was pretty good and I had it for 3 years as a family car and taxi., I was so impressed that I replaced it with 2.0 HDi one which was a lot faster, more economical etc and had aircon. But was more troublesome. The Granny was a 2.4 GL auto that I’d picked up for £40 and my Dad drove round in for 4 years, it was one of the best V6 s I’ve known and on a big extended family trip to Northern Holland kept a steady 120mph cruise with my Omega and my brothers Twin Plenum Vitesse, racing for a ferry. The Kis Pride was the kids Headmaster’s and he’d owned it from new, I think the whitewalls only got changed just before this pic, he used to tow a big trailer with it and often got used as overflow transport on school trips. This picture is outside our current house ( out of shot to left) when we first bought it 20 years ago, I was doing mental hours as at the time We had 3 mortgages and 4 kids. Thing is then you could make money if you put your mind to it, plus it was easy to get non-status mortgages, thank fuck they’re all paid off now, because even in normal times it’s impossible to make proper money and certainly not as easy making a few extra quid from selling cars. strangeangel, HMC, Burnside and 5 others
