MikeR
today I invested some work in the Focus and decided to fix the leccy window winder . I had bought a 8 note wire replacement kit as the local garage had offered to relieve me of some 70 squid for a new one . other replacements were about 30 spondoolies first issue was ... the kit was wrong , the sliders differed , as did the cable drum ..... and the wires and sleeves ... this was reflected in the label on the old unit which had the words "compatible with Focus 5 door front " on a label ... compatible ??? looking back at the door , the motor wires had been re plumbed with nice white heat shrink not to be deterred by this slight hic up .... one problem was I needed more wire , as my daughter had not used her bike for some 20 years and I could not go out ...... she will need a new de-railer cable some time . so I now had wire and all the old parts , so I worked out how it worked and measured out the wires . it soon became apparent that the only place that could house the 3 amp choccy connector was the drum , which did a good job of anchoring the 2 wires . now this all went fine until I refitted it and tried it , the springs on the drum feeds need to be tight or the wire comes off the drum ... so off it came and I disassembled it all and took some out of each cable at the 3amp choccy connector and restrung it all ..and tried it again . springs still needed to be tighter so even more wire came off to the point I could not restring the drum . this was done by doing the drum first and then straining the last joint ( red arrowed ) into position . it worked , a few clicks and grunts , but it kept working . so for a prize do I go gold, silver or bronze bunglebus
junkyarddog
During my "career" of working in a breakers,Ford focus window regs for the drivers door were really in demand, but in short supply. If I ever got a broken one in,I used to remove and strip the passenger side, and transfer the wire to the broken drivers one, worked a treat, I did lots. One or two left ones even followed me home in case the one in my dad's Mk1 ever broke and needed repair. 15 years in and it hasn't needed one doing yet!
