bunglebus
I feel your pain, although I had an extra 400cc to play with - you know you could also get a 1.6 n/a diesel? Must be like trying to get an ocean liner to accelerate. (the image URL had simply been copied and pasted into the text box from another website and then auto embedded by the forum software so the images ability to load/exist was dependent on an external host/another website, its why when I share images I try my best to copy the image and upload it directly to the Autoshite servers, so if the original site I got the image from goes down or such, it does not take the image with it! which is what I have done here)
davocano
The Zephyr 4 with it's 1703cc has already been mentioned, here's the even heavier Farnham estate.

I've driven both and I don't recall the diesel and 1.6 petrol being that different in terms of performance...the fact that the old CT petrol can only safely rev to 4500rpm before self destructing means that there's even less to really chose between them. The petrol one at least makes a reasonably pleasant noise. Shame as I recall the driving dynamics of the van being quite pleasant aside from the downright dangerous lack of power. That coming from someone who's spent a reasonable amount of time messing about with 60s and 70s buses and coaches. I mean my van isn't exactly a flying machine - somewhere around 2 tonnes, 2.3 litres of normally aspirated diesel and 78bhp. It's not dangerously slow though and will make perfectly acceptable (if loud) progress once you've wound it up. Interestingly will actually sit far more happily at an indicated 75mph on the motorway than 60 (reads about 5mph high). Long hills or strong headwinds are still bad news though! Managed not to drop any lower than 45 heading over Shap on the M6 fully laden with a headwind though which I didn't think was too bad really. Overtook several other campers on the way up so couldn't be that dire! LightBulbFun
Macscrooge
Volvo 940 wagon with the 2.0 litre NA engine. Had one as a loaner on a day I had to go from Sheffield to Huddersfield. It was OK coming down the hills!

Three days Only mildly related but I used to do some work for a farmer years ago, he once bought a used combine harvester from Skegness and drove it back to Chesterfield, it took 9 hours! cobblers

TRW
I seem to recall that some mk3 Escorts had a 1.1 CVH. I bet that was fun when installed in a fully loaded estate or van variant.

The 1.1CVH was discontinued very early on in the mk3's life as it offered no advantages over the 1.1 Valencia unit - similar power, similar torque, no real improvement in economy. The CVH was normally fitted to higher than popular spec models IIRC. I think by 1982 all 1.1s used the Valencia. By the Mk4 the 1.3CVH had given way to the OHV unit as well. Cord Fourteener
Anybody want a little guessing game? (Isolation boredom) It was a Porsche, designed by Ferdinand Porsche himself and featuring a hopelessly under-powered and unreliable petrol-electric drive. It made production but it was so underpowered it would often set on fire if it wasn't driven on flat smooth roads. It was famous for not being driven on flat smooth roads. Something like half of these vehicles ever produced set on fire because of this fatal flaw. Most of the rest got abandoned due general breakdown. Not one of Porsche's greatest successes. What vehicle is it?
