did you actually check the gearbox level properly on the fraud? you said in the video that you didn't have time/couldn't be bothered to do it as stated in the manual

it might just still be low on fluid

There are about three or four different 'rules' for checking the level, depending on where you look. We did top it up last year, and it was better, but she's slippy again now. Need to cure the leak.

it's not a similar gearbag to a granada/scorpio is it? iirc there was a thing about them that they needed to be over filled slightly to stop them playing up

Nope. It's a BTR gearbox, built in Australia. BTR began as Borg Warner Australia, which might explain why it's so musical in the lower gears. Gearbox was only used in Aussie Fords and, oddly, some Ssang Yongs (possibly a few other Far Eastern things).

She has clocked up over 304,000kms, so the odd foible is allowed.

I’ve enjoyed all the recent videos.  Fleet tinkering I find really engaging.  Best part of the channel I think.

Shame the Yugo is going but I can well understand the reasons why.  I think your stress levels will decrease nicely with a smaller, working fleet.

Years ago, I had seven cars.  Usually, most of them were broken and it was just a nightmare that I’m glad is behind me.   Now, I have three and I can keep on top of them easily enough and the whole situation is just more enjoyable and sustainable for me.

Doug is an irritating twat but he does choose some interesting cars to feature.  The other day he was driving an old Volvo S60R in metallic green with orange leather.  He's also driven a CX and a C6 among others.

The Doug Score thing is still bollocks though.  Anything that takes over 7 seconds to 60 gets a 1/10 - seriously?  Good job he never test drove my old Iveco - I never managed to get that to hit 60 in less than a minute.

And anything with under 400hp gets roasted for lack of power.

When he reviewed a 1st gen BRZ all he could say about it was that it was slow.

And suddenly the interesting cars seem to be less of a priority as the high 6 figure supercars no one will ever afford, so needless to say I rarely watch his videos unlike before.

And even when I watched everything, I'd just cut off the video before the dougscore

Situation Report.

Camry likely has a cracked head. Ex-Toyota tech came and successfully made steam appear down the back of the engine. He knows where to find a pair of heads though, so longer term, a proper solution is likely. I'm gently using the car, but monitoring coolant loss. Pondering trying Steel Seal just to see if it works, but seems a waste of time when a proper fix is on the cards.

Fox is doing ok, but desperately needs a tune up and a bit of TLC. It's heading off for some specialist attention next week and I'm hopefully collecting the GSA on the way back (via Krown rustproofing). One side of the GSA is almost complete now, passenger side floor next for attention.

2CV progress is horrifically slow, but every time I visit it a little more progress occurs. Over the next few days, I hope to get the top coat onto the body, then I can set about trying to fit the replacement rear wing - which I already suspect is going to be an utter ballache for a number of reasons.

Fairmont doing very well and actually got washed today.

Matiz - there I was thinking it had an injector fault, but my ex-Toyota chum managed to find both a dodgy electrical connector on the idle control valve and a vacuum leak right at the front of the engine that I'd somehow failed to spot. It's blocked in by the 2CV at the moment, so when that's finally done, the Matiz will be coming out for a run around the farm and an MOT hopefully soon after.

Charade - I was chatting to someone about a replacement engine, but it's gone a bit quiet and I may have to come up with another plan. It's pouring smoke out these days.

Oltcit - I've been sent the wrong Track Rod End and need to find the right one, or swap it from the parts car. Then I need to set about the electrics to try and get all of the lights working, get the handbrake working properly and probably do cambelts.

@dollywobbler, Following your video on the steepest hills, have you seen Lombard Street, SanFrancisco ? I went down it a couple of years ago when on a USA holiday.

I’ve been to Lombard St.  I don’t think there’s any claim to it being the steepest road?  Just that it’s very twisty.

I think it's got the most twists on a specific length of road?

To be honest San Francisco is a hairy kinda place anyway. Everyone is on some sort of drug that like spice, won't think twice about shanking you, and then you've got people hanging off the side of the trams up those steep hills.

It is quite a fun place to go tbh.

Tomorrow, 200 miles in the Fox. Tuesday, should be picking up the GSA and getting it waxed at Krown. Wednesday hopefully Matiz MOT, though I can see I may be leaving it at the test station if it still fails on emissions. I think it really needs a new idle control valve. It was running nicely, but then the revs rose up a bit beyond where they should for idle, and disconnecting the idle control valve made not a jot of difference. I pulled it out, lubed it and cleaned it as best I could and put it back in with a fair dose of improvement. We'll see...

Thursday, hoping to get the 2CV back on the road, out filming on Friday. It's Aussie Day at the Ace Cafe on Sunday, so tempted to make the trek. Looks like it'll be a busy week then...
