Another cheep Jeep?

Correct, and the official reasoning behind cheep jeep #2 is:

So far I've done 50 miles or so and all is well, there are certainly a few issues but I'm not regretting the purchase yet.

The seller seemed like a decent bloke, informed me of some of the niggles but I'm discovering a few more. He did however set me off with a full tank of lpg (size unknown) and half a tank of petrol, so I do not expect a fuel stop for the 100 miles home.

Home, 120 miles covered, all is mostly well.
I left in a shiny new electric car and returned with another 25 year old 4 litre petrol jeep :-)

Main issues:
Heater not working - apparently common in XJ Cherokees, investigation needed. Blower works fine, just no heat
Not sure if it's an issue or the cause the the above, but engine temp stays low, around 70C on the gauge. It could be lpg system causing this and/or knackered thermostat. Again, investigation needed.
LPG occasionally cuts out after heavy braking. The revs drop down to idle, then just continue to fall until the vehicle stalls. Most of the time everything is fine, it only cuts out after heavy deceleration.
Drivers side wiper is a bit knackered, no pressure holding the blade to the screen. Possibly broken spring inside the arm, will swap for passenger side until I get a replacement wiper arm.
Oil pressure gauge fluctuates a lot - hopefully this is a dodgy sender, cheap jeep #1 did this and a new sender fixed it.
PAS leak - seems quite minor will check in the morning.
Radio - dead.

Minor issues:
Misc broken/missing trim.
Dash cover is a mess.
Central locking dead.
Probably needs a couple of tyres
Missing one centre cap from wheel.

Overall I'm very happy with cheap jeep #2.
I won the ebay auction for this before Xmas, but reserve not met. It then "sold" 3 times since then on eBay, no-one ever turned up, and eventually I bought it a week ago.
It had been standing for 3 years before being put back on the road late last year. The seller runs a garage and did a pre-MOT before the test, he fixed all of the issues and found a little welding needed doing, he did that, and then under-sealed it, He said he did around 50 miles in it since the MOT to make sure everything was ok. The only thing that turned up was a very small PAS leak. No binding brakes this time ... which was nice.

It drives ace, very smooth, it tracks straight, cruise control works, which is a relief.
The lpg is single point with auto switch-over. There are 4 lights on the lpg switch, one went out after 60 miles, the second after 110 miles, so I'm guessing 200 mile range on lpg.

It's one year newer than cheap jeep #1, 1994 for #1 and 1995 for #2 both are "Limited SE" (top spec) 4.0 high output, but there are a few differences.
The steering wheel on this one is much bigger and has an air-bag, (#1 has the optional Momo steering wheel, which is awesome) the stalks are different as is some of the trim and switches.
#1 is euro 1 petrol and #2 is euro 2 petrol.
The road orientated tyres on #2 are much quieter than the all-terrain on #1. ... erm, other stuff, I'm tired and need food/coffee will add more later/tomorrow.

Urgh, I forgot how smelly and fume filled the tubes can be, ....

Brake dust and other people's BO, mostly. Years ago, when I used the Tube daily to get to work, I always used to wonder how some people could smell so bad so early in the morning.

I've been discussing this with one of the chaps on the XJ FB group and it turns out there are quite a few differences between the '94 and '95 XJ. Until I got this I was unaware of the mild face-lift that happened between these two years, I thought the only change was the horrible air-bag steering wheel.
I'm pretty certain that if I'd got a 95 or later XJ first I wouldn't have liked it anywhere near as much as I like cheap jeep #1.
I prefer the seats, steering wheel and tacky trim on the  '94, pretty much all of the changes they made for '95.

I will be looking to sort the niggles on this and have started an ebay shopping list (rockauto list probably to follow) and see how I get on with it, but as things stand I'm thinking I will now look for a pre '95 limited SE with lpg but I might end up putting a gas kit on cheap jeep #1.
