Cor the Ambassador and the Princess went quite cheap! I’d have had them, the CX or the Visa at those prices!

A few fairly good prices all told. The main reason I couldn’t go was that my parents were visiting, then they decided last minute not to come. Probably best I didn’t attend or my bank balance would have been even worse than it is as I have no self control in situations where there are cars I’ve always wanted (Ambassadors, Princess, CX, Visa) for not much cash...

The Princess was lovely and very hard to resist but we had already bought an allegro estate, beige Cortina and CX, so ran out of space, but still got the G reg mk1 Capri also. The Princess was great though.

There are several CX owners on here including me, I wonder if we could get them all running at the same time!

It was one of the few cars they said was driven there. I have to wait until next weekend to see if it does run and drive. I did not go to the auction looking to buy a car, just parts! The parts were too expensive for me, but the cars were too tempting. The CX looked better up close than on the catalogue. I may have been wearing rose tinted glasses though yesterday. I will need some parts for it so could be looking for help and advise locating them. Citroen’s are new to me but the CX is amazing!

A lucky escape I did not go because of the amount of walking, but at those prices I would have come with something!

Parts for CXs are not easy, Stan platt in the UK has a selection. We have had to get parts from Holland and there is always CX basis in Holland that charge the earth but often have stuff nobody else has.

CX Technical Day is Saturday 28th March 2020 at The Chevronic Centre, Hitchin, GG4 0TW

There's also Wolsey House Motors, which is allegedly home to a strategic reserve of about 40 or so CXs in various dusty states of disrepair. They sold a running Series 1 Prestige (needing mostly bodywork) on eBay recently for about £1500. They might have some spares for S1s....if you're lucky.

With only about 140 cars currently passed fit for the road this year, CXs are very much a minority interest in Britain and Ireland. A bit like Visas, really....

Bonjour, that would be me, it was rude not to at that price, especially with the sunroof it has. Just need to remove the awful black paint and it should be good to go?

Either of you see what sort of condition the Standard Companion thing was in? It went for about the limit I would have spent on it but not sure it's something I could have done justice to.

Those wheel balancers, generators and car trailers went helluva cheap! Wish I'd kept an eye online when the auction was happening, for those alone. The Cinquenco, the Skoda pick ups and the Granadas were a bargain too.

It is bound to turn up again, whether with a happy new owner or on eBay... so perhaps it will end up in the AS fold, in the end! :-)

There is loads in France if you want to import. Plenty under €1000. Lots of nice 1 owner cars. The stricter French MoT has driven a lot off the road but very cheap. Usually some for sale in the Nord and Picardie regions - so not far to travel. With a French CT (MoT) you should be able to drive home.

Be quick because not sure what the situation will be after 31st December.

LeBonCoin is the place to look. I have their App it won't download onto UK smartphones but if you go to the Aptoid App - you can download from there.

Best thing you can do is join the CX and CX spare parts groups on Farcebook. Armed with the VIN and engine numbers, someone out there should be able to piece together what you need.

Look out particularly for three fellas named Michael Buurma, Theo Kerger and Michael Elinder; the unholy trinity are walking encyclopedias of CX knowledge. Michael Buurma wrote a very detailed book on the CX era.

IHoly swearword sticks, things went cheap! Very lucky I didn't go, I'd have no wife by now otherwise and nothing but a drive full of ruined PSA products ??

It will be very interesting to see how much or this turns up on eBay and Failbook moron mart over the coming weeks.

Hopefully some genuine heroes and enthusiasts managed to get something though. Sounds like the CX has gone to a good home!

It looked quite solid but scruffy, would have been good to use as is once the brakes etc. were checked and in order. I didn’t look too closely, as we arrived just as the auction was starting so didn’t really look that hard even at the cars we bought! I did try and sit in the Companion though! there was not much room between the steering wheel and seat! It would have been a great fun car for the price as long as concours is not your thing.

Also this - I definitely* need to buy another fucked early '70s Volvo rather than fixing the one I've already got.

This was very nice and had a great interior plus spare panels to make it good. Looked a nice easy project if you had painting facilities and could probably be on the road quickly. My girlfriend was very upset that it went over our self imposed limit but was happy again when we won the Capri?.

The Escort van is on ebay for £1,000 more than it sold for. Actual price was hammer price plus 12% so easier to work out than the T&c’s suggested.

Probably not the best car for a woman of ample proportions to go then?! Lol

It was certainly snug in there, I did not sit in it properly as it would have taken a while to get past the steering wheel!

Hello just joined the group. Just an update on the GS sold at the auction. Got the car up and running for the Citroën Car Club G rally back in September. Wasn't to rusty for a 40+ year old Citroën, need for small plates on passengers sill and plated the rear wing (will replace it properly at some point). Replaced the tyres, all the exhaust, rear bumper and one light, did the cam belts and a full service, a little fettling here and there and a polish, jobs a good'un.

Wow! That looks fantastic, it is great to see it back on the road. You have put me to shame, I bought the CX but have not made much progress, due to lockdown restrictions I have spent very little time on it. It was described as driven into the field. When the recovery driver went to fetch it they laughed and said there was no chance of driving it so was a total lie. I have only just got a log book off the DVLA. We have got it running now but the suspension does not raise so that is the next thing to sort. I have now bought another CX to use as spares as everything is very expensive for them. We also have the G reg Capri but that won’t be started for a while.
Your GS looks great, well done for saving it and getting it sorted so quickly.

Thank you, it is a good car, well looked after car at some point, so although the paint was flat it was in good condition so most of the car just needed a good cut and polish. Nice to know that the CX is being saved. Would like to know what happened to the Visa as we bid on that aswell. We did actually drive the GS out of the field took about 5mins to get her running and we put some tyres on that held air, was a fun day.🙂

That looks great. Nice to see some 'oily rag' type work - as old cars rise in value they seem to be attracting more dull 'professional' restorations where everything's perfectly finished in 2k. I'd rather see a nice, honest car on the road with a bit of patina, myself.
